Boris stands down as MP with immediate effect part 3

DuncinToffee · 18/06/2023 16:56

Tomorrow is the Commons vote on the Privileges Committee's findings that Boris Johnson deliberately misled Parliament over Downing Street parties during lockdown

The vote is a free vote rather than being whipped either way. Tories have been told that the vote will be a one-line whip, meaning they will not be obliged to participate.

Boris Johnson is believed to have advised his backers to not vote against it.

Michael Gove confirmed on live tv that he will abstain

Tobias Elwood has u-turned on abstaining after hearing stories from voters

Rishi Sunak, who knows

Lis Nici at 5.35 pm

"No, I will not give way at the moment. Those people advised the then Prime Minister again and again that no rules were broken and that guidance was followed at all times. Everybody in this place knows that no Minister stands at the Dispatch Box and knowingly misleads. They have to take counsel from people who advise them, many of whom are giving legal advice that they know to be the truth, but the public do not necessarily know that that is the case. If you are a Prime Minister and you are advised in that way again and again, no matter how you question that advice, you have to stand at the Dispatch Box and give those statements, because that is what you have been legally advised to do. People may not like that, but that is the truth, and that is why I am standing here and saying this."

I don't think he took LEGAL advice, did he?
Just advice from people who had been at the gatherings

Fancy spouting off in Parliament rubbishing a report like this, this demonstrating that you haven't even read the bloody thing.

Yes he took advice (from people at the parties) but they never told him to say the guidance was followed, quite the opposite. He ignored the advice and lied. And he never took any actual legal advice.

Honestly. The melodrama.

You all need to take some deep breaths, the 'LI - AHHHH!' Has been ousted, you need fear him no more (for now). Now calm your jets.

Well, according to Lia Nici that's OK if you're from Grimsby. Which is no complement to her constituents.

... I cannot see where the evidence is that Boris Johnson misled Parliament knowingly, intentionally or recklessly. [Interruption.] I am from Grimsby, and I have to say it as I see it. [Interruption.]^^

DuncinToffee · 20/06/2023 10:16

You just can't get yourself to even type the word 'LIAR' can you.

Jenkins wasn't there, was she? She was probably our best bet for anything overtly adolescent.

Clarke-Smith tweeted that he was watching the cricket instead. Strange, I thought we paid him to work.

Was the score 354/7?🤣

Notonthestairs · 20/06/2023 10:44

Are we paying them to watch cricket/whine or are we paying them to represent their constituents?

They don't get to cry democracy and not bother turning up.

I am pleased @Janiie that you are now in agreement that Johnson is a liar and lied to parliament.
Well done.

Indeed, the liar wasn't ousted, he resigned.

Hysteria? Melodrama? I saw neither of these during the debate. Maybe janiie was watching Eastenders by mistake.

Philips was nearly spitting in her excitement to bellow Li - AHHH

I don't watch Eastenders.

We appear to be paying them quite handsomely to whinge impotently at the moment.

PerkingFaintly · 20/06/2023 10:54

Janiie why do you do it?

You don't even come across as though your heart's in it.

Yeah Fabricant was on some day-trip to France

Alistair Campbell was on the same plane and spotted him

Someone has to

Even Clavinova has abstained from contributing to the debate. I wonder if she has formed an opinion on lying to Parliament yet.

My heart is in it. I'm just waiting for deliveries and like correcting folk.

Why do you do it?

PerkingFaintly · 20/06/2023 11:13

But your heart's not in what you say. It's obvious you don't have the vim you used to.

Vim! There's a word I haven't heard for years Grin.

Oh I do have the vim. Sadly these threads are full of Johnson loathers I feel it's my duty to keep sticking my oar in, bit of balance if you like.

LlynTegid · 20/06/2023 11:31

The Conservative Party should expel Mr Johnson.

cakeorwine · 20/06/2023 11:34

The thing is - you don't provide balance.

Have you bothered to read the Government guidance on Covid in the workplace and mitigations that should be in place?

It's like a climate denier who has not read any of the statistics because they don't want to know the truth.
