Tell me the truth - cake

So, I’ve literally spent all day baking this cake for my son’s birthday. He wanted a Miles Morales Spider-Man themed cake, featuring the Spot.

I’ve been battling indoor temperatures of 27.5 degrees and finding it stressful. I’m going to refrigerate it and tidy up some of the icing tomorrow morning…but, response from DH was ‘it’s fine!’. Am I wrong to feel upset. It’s not perfect, but my back is killing, it cost a fortune and I’m shattered. He’s backtracking now, but it’s too late. P’d off now and looking for something a bit more constructive or even some finishing advice.

thanks

I'm always happy when I see home baked cake, gets my approval and it's even more special as mum made it and he wont forget that.

This is the sort of thing your children remember, that their parent listened to them then took the time and made them a special cake just for them. That's love.

I think it looks amazing! Very professional and must have been a nightmare to try and do in that heat working with icing etc. I bet he'll be over the moon. I would be! X

Are the sides of the cake like a fun swirl of the Spiderman colors? Very creative!

Well done, op, and that looks like a lot of layers too, tall cakes make an impression for sure.

It looks fab!
Agree with the pp about your ds remembering this.

Mine are 18 & 16. For the 18ths birthday, I said about getting a "proper" cake. This was quickly shot down with "it won't be the same, got to have mums cake" 🥰

freeandfierce · 17/06/2023 10:16

When I opened your photo I wasn't expecting that! Wow! High impact, great height, clean bright colours, amazing.
My mum made all our birthday cakes when we were children, I remember pretty much everyone from the hedgehog cake to the maypole one. I don't remember thinking they weren't perfectly created, children won't notice any little blips (not that I could see any on your cake) I expect he and his friends will be blown away.
So I guess next year your husband is making the cake if you are only worthy of a 'fine'!

It looks amazing!! Well done - it takes so much more time than you plan to make a cake like this and costs more than you think too. He will absolutely appreciate the fact that you've gone to such a big effort.

This is amazing. I'd be pleased as punch if I created it. Well done

mathanxiety · 17/06/2023 16:57

So glad your family loved it.

It's a super cake and hats off to you. I'm in awe - eight layers is no mean feat.

My DD4 would demolish that. You're amazing! It looks beautiful x
