Do people CHOOSE when they poo?

TMI!!

Just read a thread about going at someone else’s house and how you should wait until your own place, that kind of thing.

Is it weird that I only go if I really need to go, like I’m kind of desperate? There’s no way I could wait and go at a particular place of time like wait until the event’s over. I either need to go or I don’t.

I have to be home. I've been desperate out and about and tried but I can't! I feel like it's as psychological as it is physical.

Hotandverybothered · 17/06/2023 00:33

Wake up for a wee and can guarantee the poo comes 30 mins later! Definitely cannot wait for too long !

IHateLegDay · 17/06/2023 00:38

I can hold it for hours if I need to. I can only go at home and I'm not in much 😂

Reigateforever · 17/06/2023 00:38

caggie3
Ialways needed to go at the same time everyday, early evening and for the past two months it's 11pm and I want to move it earlier again and I don't know how 😂 body clocks are weird.

You’ll have to wait till the clocks change back to winter time.

Aside from the rare occasion that I'm actually ill, I only ever poo at home or in a hotel room if I'm there alone. I don't feel the urge and ignore it if I'm out, I just don't feel it at all.

When younger I once went camping for a week. No urges at all, no ill effects from not going - and then literally ten minutes after I got through my front door I had horrendous cramps and had to run for the toilet!

This is exactly how I am!

EBearhug · 17/06/2023 01:14

I usually go within an hour or so of waking up. My period usually means a day or so of more urgency and looseness, as can nerves (interview, exam,) though not usually to the point it's so desperately urgent, must find a loo now. Occasional illness/food has done that, though (thank you, xylitol sweets.) But usually I'm once a day and a good passage and texture.

In the past, in the tropics, I've dug my own long drop and watched the dung beetles turn up before I've finished, so I got a lot more relaxed about it all. Not sure how my balance would manage, being perched on the edge these days!

MucozadeOnLucozade · 17/06/2023 01:15

I have a five minute window in the morning where I get an urge and if I don't do it in those five minutes I am then unable to poo all day despite needing it. I think the wind pressure to help it on its way disappears and takes a day to rebuild up again. I then have to catch the next five minute window following day.

Wednesdaysotherchild · 17/06/2023 01:15

If I need to go, I will. Predictably, it’s an hour after every main meal. Holding in can’t be good for you!

MucozadeOnLucozade · 17/06/2023 01:17

Also pooing goes out the window when on time of the month.

EnthENd · 17/06/2023 01:17

Varies for me. Sometimes I could go now or I could leave it. Sometimes I feel the need to go ASAP with no warning.

Depends. A type 4-7 on the bristol stool chart, tends to be impatient and beyond my control. Type 1 to 3 are more stubborn and hence I have more say in the matter 😁.

😆

I just had a spell in the BRI for sepsis and was introduced to the stool chart. Somebody would come around every hour to check if I'd 'emptied my bowels' and where on the chart it was. It did feel...quite odd

To answer your question OP, when I need to go I need to go. Particularly when being force fed Lactulose!

I've read (years ago) that burglars are often in a state of fear/tension while they are doing the job, and it's not out of an urge to defile the victim's home that they do a crap.

Ummm use the toilet? No need to crap on someone's bed surely 😆 even go for the sink if you must!

pineapple7peach · 17/06/2023 02:56

I go when I need to, it takes me less than a minute to poo usually. I poo at work, at friend’s house, on trains, planes, in public toilets, I don’t give a toss!

I used to be like this which was great, literally first thing when I woke up. Loved being so predictable. Unfortunately that's changed a bit now.

Now there’s an image! 😂

If someone can "comfortably enough" wait 3-4 days, or a week, or indeed several weeks before defecating... I presume you deposit a lot in one go. How many flushes does that take to clear? How much weight can you lose in one go?

Coffeeforus · 17/06/2023 06:36

So for anyone who thinks it’s rude and disgusting for a visitor to poo in your toilet would you rather they cut short their visit and left? Maybe in the middle of a meal, bbq, party, gathering etc which you’d invited them to and you expect them to eat and drink but never poo in your house? Would that visitor drive around until they found a petrol station, shops, public toilets at a park and then come back to your house or drive home (which may not be a short distance away) and not return? Perhaps your visitor does not want to disclose to you that they get urgency to go or have a bowel condition. Many people cannot pick and choose when to poo.

Please think before deciding your visitor is rude. As long as they leave the toilet clean after use so what if they use a toilet for what it is intended for?

If I’ve not been able to go for a few days, once the seal has broken the ‘backlog’ is unlikely to come all at once. There’ll be one and then hopefully another one (or more) later in the day. So it’ll be a few days of no pooing at all and then a couple of days of several poos.

DeliciouslyDecadent · 17/06/2023 07:19

It's very bad to hold on and ignore the urge (unless there is no other option at all.)

The large bowel absorbs water from poo so the longer it's in there, the harder it gets to go (literally, in both senses.)

There is also a possible link between toxins in poo and bowel cancer. Poo is best out asap, not hanging around festering in your bowel.

Can't understand people who aren't happy with visitors pooing in their loos.
We have a key beside the windows in the bathrooms and hope someone would have the sense to open it afterwards. OR unless it's freezing cold I always open the window before guests come round on the basis they won't feel uncomfortable if they need to poo.

Westfacing · 17/06/2023 07:28

Luckily I'm regular as clockwork - I go within minutes of getting up helped along with a cup of hot tea.

Not something I've thought about but looking back I can't remember ever having to defecate at work, public loo or a friend's house.

orangeclubsarebest · 17/06/2023 07:34

If I needed to go at someone else's house then I wouldn't, I would wait until I got home. Same goes for work.

LaBefana · 17/06/2023 07:38

I'm seeing a lot of barely disguised preaching about bowel movements on here. if you put it off you'll go to pooh hell, regularity is next to godliness, etc, etc.

DeliciouslyDecadent · 17/06/2023 07:39

I wonder if all the posters who hold on or only go once are eating a low fibre diet?

Evidently, most of the UK are!

My normal is 2 x a day and sometimes 3 if I've had masses of veg/fruit/ wholegrains (chia seeds seem the culprit!)

Evidently in other countries where diets are richer in fibre (where they eat mainly vegan with lots of beans) pooing 3 x a day is normal.

I'm not seeing that.

It's acknowledged that up to 4 x a day is normal as long as it's not diarrhea.

It's also acknowledged that going 3 x a week is normal for some people.

The issue I think is that some illnesses develop by waiting - the body gets used to the urge being ignored, so constipation and a lazy gut can develop long term.

SophiaElise · 17/06/2023 07:42

I can't make myself do a #2 on demand, but I can hold it in long enough to get back home. Have never done a #2 at work or when out/visiting friends for dinner.

Peeing is a different matter though - when I need to go I need to go.
