I can feel the rage rising in me, all the media, the politicians, everyone just conspiring, colluding.

I wish the DM had zero readership and zero interest. I hate how it’s valued in this country.

Don't be ridiculous. It's just a newspaper

Yeah, I love a bit of fascism with my cornflakes. It’s a free world.

You're the one who is being ridiculous. The DM, unfortunately, does influence a lot of the public.

I like freedom of speech

thimbbwebelr153 · 16/06/2023 14:42

No doubt he will be sacked from there before too long

MrsBennetsPoorNerves · 16/06/2023 14:42

No surprises there, really.

The DM readers are welcome to him, frankly. They can all stew in their own self-created mire of shit.

I'll say to you what my brilliant (and incredibly left-wing) Politics lecturer said to me decades ago, "read widely, especially those whose opinions you disagree with. Believe no one on face value. Think".

He might be a twat but Know Thine Enemy.

Paperbagsaremine · 16/06/2023 14:44

They want attention to drive ad views - hate reading is still reading.
So the best thing is not to share things like (a speciality of the DM) "I'm a professionally perverse woman who has done something every right thinking person will condemn but I'm not ashamed", even for 'omg so wrong' purposes. It's what they want.
Or BJ's columns.

Anything they publish that you feel is completely without merit - ignore ignore ignore.

MrsTerryPratchett · 16/06/2023 14:45

I was agreeing with @derxa BTW, in case it's not obvious Grin

So do a lot of newspapers with different viewpoints

I agree with your lecturer.

It's was on the sky news earlier....if he gets a new job with this paper then he has to have it's passed by a committee. The chairman said they hadn't received any requests. Seems when you have been prime minister then for 2 year after you have to have your new appointments vetted.

StarbucksSmarterSister · 16/06/2023 14:53

He'll fit in perfectly though.

I hope someone fact checks every column when published, but we know that's one paper he's unlikely to get sacked from for lying.

Yes but he's made it plain all his life that he doesn't think rules apply to him.

Keep your hair on OP.

I hate these apolitical but angry, whingey posts.

And always patronising somehow! People can read what newspaper they want and none of them are paragons of virtue.

These tedious threads - all noise, banners, no content. Ugh!

Close family member worked at The Telegraph when he had a column there. He had someone else write it for him.

Yes it was obvious except everyone knows what this twat of a charlatan thinks or pretends to think.

TheHandmaiden · 16/06/2023 15:28

Well the bottom feeders have got to read something. I mean, he doesn't even pretend to try and be clever.

Johnson is an idiots idea of a gentleman.

I find this type of polarised view quite strange.

I read the DM. I also read the Guardian, the Independent, the Telegraph, the FT, BBC News and sometimes the Sun. The frothing at the DM hits the ridiculous at times on MN. It's a paper, some things I find interesting, others aren't to my taste but I have the power of free thought to make my own decision.

Surely reading a range of papers encompassing differential political views is better than thinking the Guardian is some kind of biblical paper of truth?

TheHandmaiden · 16/06/2023 19:48

TBH Boris Johnson is a much better journalist than he ever was as a politician. He's best regarded as comedy because when he's taken seriously it's tragedy.

I don't like the Daily Mail but people can read whatever they like. It has Andrew Neill in it who is one of our best political journalists.
