I can feel the rage rising in me, all the media, the politicians, everyone just conspiring, colluding.

I wish the DM had zero readership and zero interest. I hate how it’s valued in this country.

My problem with this is that it looks very much like retrospective “payment”… BJ is on record as saying “the Daily Mail’s editor is his real boss” while PM, and oh look, now the DM is giving him a million quid a year for putting his face above a ghostwritten column.

Which I guess is why this would normally need to be cleared in advance.

I think we may have had the same lecturer!

This is very helpful advice, to be fair I do try and read many newspapers and granted with freedom of speech we need the wide opinion. Perhaps my frustration is around the on-going veneration of BJ.

He has always written n newspapers though, you don't have to read it. I would have expected him to do this if he wasn't in politics

Is it just me who can’t see his column on the site? Or has it been removed because no one is reading it?

It is there, I just looked, I can't read it as the DM doesn't like my ad blocker and it sometimes kicks in when I open articles.

That’s my angle too. The workings behind the scenes are far more important than the puerile articles they churn out. All media is propaganda on some level, the important bit is at whose behest they’re working and whether or not you align with their perspectives.

I don’t boycott as a rule, but that’s not an symptom of automatic agreement.

by the by, I’m wondering how long it takes the DM to turn off comments on his articles. They already do for a couple of commentators.

grass321 · 17/06/2023 12:49

Why do people assume if you hate the DM that you like the Guardian? I like neither.i find all of the papers hard to tolerate as their agendas are so transparent in every piece.

That's my point. All papers have an agenda.

I'm presuming people who hate the DM are typically, although not always, more left leaning hence the comment about the Guardian.

But it applies whatever the paper; there's no universal paper of 'truth' despite the views of some posters. And the same on political threads on MN where Labour = angels and the path of righteousness and Conservatives = evil scum of the earth. Both parties have their faults and agendas.

It's was on the sky news earlier....if he gets a new job with this paper then he has to have it's passed by a committee. The chairman said they hadn't received any requests. Seems when you have been prime minister then for 2 year after you have to have your new appointments vetted.

He’s already shown us he doesn’t care when there are tangible consequences, he doesn’t give a monkey’s about Acoba (the committee he’s meant to approach) and they have no real powers to enforce any sort of of penalty.

It’s not surprising in the slightest but you’d think a few more people would tie that to all the waffle they give an about the importance of traditions and institutions. Boris and his specific brand of mates don’t give a shit about it.

on of the comments on his article on the DM was along the lines of ‘love you Boris. God save the king’. What relevance does god save the king have to a man who lied to the face of the late queen so he could commit an unlawful act against parliament. Boris would like to be the ultimate ‘Englishman’ but he’s actually a grotty little grifter.

EyelessArseFace · 17/06/2023 13:08

Rejoice in the fact that his gurning phizog will be gracing the bottom of guinea pig cages fairly soon.

Housewife2010 · 17/06/2023 13:13

Boris has written for The Spectator for years. I read his DM article. He writes well.

Why was my post deleted? Are we not allowed to call BJ a cunt?

What?????? Did you get deleted for calling BJ a cunt?

I find this type of polarised view quite strange.

I read the DM. I also read the Guardian, the Independent, the Telegraph, the FT, BBC News and sometimes the Sun. The frothing at the DM hits the ridiculous at times on MN. It's a paper, some things I find interesting, others aren't to my taste but I have the power of free thought to make my own decision.

Surely reading a range of papers encompassing differential political views is better than thinking the Guardian is some kind of biblical paper of truth?

Me too…it’s amazing how often the Day Mail is quoted on here, especially when it’s hilariously called the ‘Daily Fail’ 🥱

Highandlows · 17/06/2023 14:32

People thought Boris was going down. He will make millions from now on. I would said that chucking him out brought some other issues. He is happy and not out of pocket. At least for many he is the PM but it will be difficult to silent him.

Yes, from me to freedom of speech.

Highandlows · 17/06/2023 14:33

I meant at least he is not the PM anymore.

No surprises there, really.

The DM readers are welcome to him, frankly. They can all stew in their own self-created mire of shit.

This!

Cornettoninja · 17/06/2023 14:37

Boris has already made millions if pre-political interviews are to be believed. Didn’t stop him trading BBC positions in an attempt to secure an 800k loan.

He’s kept Murdoch on side so there’s almost certainly a £1million autobiography deal in the pipeline, really should complete the publishing deals he’s already got though.

I don’t begrudge the man making money, it’s just a shame he can’t seem to hold on to it for any length of time.

Bubblyb00b · 17/06/2023 14:56

but haven't you heard, its a FEMINIST newspaper so they get another FEMINIST to write for them hahahaaaa

LizzieSiddal · 17/06/2023 18:44

@TooBigForMyBoots What?????? Did you get deleted for calling BJ a cunt?

Yes I did. Mind you, I did add “fat” so maybe that was going to far 😂

There is no such thing as going too far where BoJo is concerned. Let's see what the next scandal is.

Kendodd · 17/06/2023 20:51

I would bet Johnson is one of the most honest and least racist writers in the DM. Imagine that, racist liar Johnson would have rased the bar at the DM. Plus, their readers would be gullible enough to believe every word he says.
