Uber eats keep taking money out of our bank account and bank won’t help

It’s £300 worth so far and another £32 has just been taken.
apparently it’s a subscription

I can’t find a way to contact Uber eats properly and our NatWest bank are unhelpful.

any idea what I can do?

What ways have you already tried contacting them?

ProfessorXtra · 15/06/2023 15:51

What details are in the app? Card details?

Why can’t the bank help? Ubereats subscription is about £7 a month.

Hugasauras · 15/06/2023 15:52

Have you ever used Uber Eats? Do you have login details for an account?

LampsAndWatches · 15/06/2023 15:56

My husband has an Uber eats account, I don’t use it and he would be clueless as to. What to do?

the bank have said take it up with Uber eats
we cancelled the credit card the payments were being taken from but it’s still happening.
the credit card is a NatWest one
I’ll go and look on the app now

They can't take payments unless it's connected to a card. Why does he have an account with them if he doesn't use it?

Rainbowshit · 15/06/2023 16:01

You can cancel the subscription in the app. I don't remember signing up for it but they were taking money from me.

I think it wasn't that way to find ihow to cancel iirc.

Teen daughter will occasionally order breakfast from macdonalds. I’ve checked the Uber app and there are no card details stored on the account.

it’s not coming from the app, the money is being taken directly from a credit card, no idea how

There has to be payment details on the app. How else do you pay?

You can’t pay cash for a McDonald’s delivery

SBHon · 15/06/2023 16:05

If your daughters been buying McDonald’s then a card is linked.

Have you tried contacting them through the app?

DogInATent · 15/06/2023 16:05

Check the payment/debit mandates set-up against the bank account, if you have a banking app they should be visible. Cancel the mandate for Uber, and take the opportunity to cancel any other out of date ones. It's something everyone should check regularly.

thimbbwebelr153 · 15/06/2023 16:05

Could they be taking it via Apple Pay/Google pay. They do offer subscriptions, guessing your daughter or partner signed up

SBHon · 15/06/2023 16:06

Has your daughter got her own phone/tablet? Could she have set up her own app and used your details for it?

VivaJen · 15/06/2023 16:07

You need to speak to Uber Eats and get them to check it (or your husband since he has the account with them). Whose card details are being used - yours or your husbands? Your bank wants you to check with Uber because you have had dealings with them before, however, fraudsters using stolen details for things like Uber is very common now so once you have checked with Uber (and confirmed it wasn't you) then go back to your bank and raise it as a fraud issue

Teen must manually enter her bank card details when she orders?

sorry I’m not being very clear. I have never used the app

there are no subscriptions on his app, it’s offering Uber one
and when I click on the wallet there are no payment details and it’s asking me to add payment method

it’s our credit card that the money is being taken from. We have cancelled it but no one is helping us get the money back

I suspect your DD has the app on her phone and has signed up somehow.

It’s the kind of thing my teen DD does 🤬

Doidontimmm · 15/06/2023 16:09

What does the statement actually say, is it definitely Uber eats? That sounds strange. Are you sure your husband is not actually ordering stuff?

inappropriateraspberry · 15/06/2023 16:10

But you're saying Ubereats are still taking payments even though the card is cancelled? So is it now another card? Where are you seeing these payments? On the app or via a bank statement/banking app?

LampsAndWatches · 15/06/2023 16:10

We do all have Apple Pay

would you mind guiding me through what to do please? I’m not very tech savvy

OP posts:

Do you have PayPal?

Though if the card is cancelled I don't see how they are taking payments. Does the credit card account have 2 cards?

SBHon · 15/06/2023 16:11

Have any payments been taken after the card was cancelled?

LampsAndWatches · 15/06/2023 16:12

Banking app
thank you for helping

weirdly, when we cancelled the old card the credit card wallet in online banking disappeared from our app.
the new credit card is now also having money taken from it.
I’ve messaged my DH to ask how far he has got with it again today and I’ll up date.

3luckystars · 15/06/2023 16:13

Check PayPal for subscriptions.

that’s ridiculous though, you are saying UberEats are taking money and you cannot make contact with them to clarify what you are paying for?

VivaJen · 15/06/2023 16:14

Cancelling the card doesn't necessarily stop the payments. It's called a Continuous Payment Authority and it means that they can still take payment from old card details. At the very least your bank can stop them taking future payments, just ask them to cancel the CPA

3luckystars · 15/06/2023 16:15

Is there a CHAT facility on Uber Eats? There must be a contact email address or phone number that you can call. You need to go to the source.
