Uber eats keep taking money out of our bank account and bank won’t help

It’s £300 worth so far and another £32 has just been taken.
apparently it’s a subscription

I can’t find a way to contact Uber eats properly and our NatWest bank are unhelpful.

any idea what I can do?

Without pointing fingers, I think you need to ask your daughter as. Suspect card details saved on Uber and she’s using your card to order

CeeceeBloomingdale · 15/06/2023 16:21

Your daughter must have the app and your payment details stored if she’s ordering regularly. Who normally pays for the McDonald’s? Does that show on your previous statements? They do try and opt you into subscriptions on the app so she has probably signed up accidentally.

Talia99 · 15/06/2023 16:21

A lot of subscription companies automatically get informed of your new credit card number if you just get a new card on the same account.

One of two things has occurred. Either someone (you, your husband, your daughter) has signed up for a subscription. You need to find out who, access their account and cancel it (I’d start with checking if the teenager has her own account on her phone).

Alternatively, someone else got hold of your original credit card and attached it to their account. That’s fraud and your credit card company needs to help you. I have no idea if Uber Eats can do a search by credit card number alone. I’d have thought they’d need the name of the account holder which you won’t have if it’s fraud.

Thank you

there isn’t an east pass option in his profile account

you need to check if your daughter has made an account if it’s not on your husbands

It’s 100% not DD I’ve asked her and believe her
she uses DHs app and pays with her own bank card, about once a quarter

Have you achecked the "Your orders" section within the app to see if there is any order history? The order history, date/time, and delivery address will all be there if so.

If not, then your card details have probably been stolen, and someone else has registered them on their UberEats account to get free food.

Is there a CHAT facility on Uber Eats? There must be a contact email address or phone number that you can call. You need to go to the source.

I can’t find anything online and I don’t use sm like twitter

If you go into App Store and then click on your profile pic there is a subscriptions link in there. You may be able to see it

Thank you. It’s not coming from the app. It’s directly off the credit card

I don't know if this is a practice in the UK, but in the US, some credit card companies will inform firms that regularly charge your account if you cancel the card and get a new one and give them the new card details. This is supposed to help customers in case their card is lost or stolen, but it has the knock-on effect of making it harder to get rid of a regular charge you can't cancel.

Call the credit card issuer and tell them you don't want this service. They should also be able to block charges from a specific merchant.

Doidontimmm · 15/06/2023 19:44

Is it the same amount every month on the same date then?

In case you miss it, this is what you need to do! Sounds like your daughter has signed up for an Uber One subscription and not cancelled it at the end of the subscription.

You can also find it by just typing ‘subscription’ into your iPhones search function by swiping down on the home screen.

Doidontimmm · 15/06/2023 19:48

The only subscription Uber eats does is £5.99 for Uber one.

crazymare20 · 15/06/2023 19:52

Sounds like a scam. There used to be a scam which I had a couple of times where random amounts of money would be taken from my account and it appeared on my statements as “apple” but when I clicked on the transaction it was coming from a random foreign country, can’t remember the name. Turned out this scam company we’re getting my card details from Amazon kindle when I was purchasing books.

I had several payments from my credit card to Uber Eats a few months ago. I figured someone had fraudulently added my card deets to their account so I reported it to the CC provider as fraud and let them deal with it. If the amounts are irregular (timing and amount) it’s unlikely to be a forgotten subscription.

Namechangedagain20 · 15/06/2023 20:59

Have you used your card to order anything through someone else’s uber eats account OP? My mom used hers on my brothers account but accidentally set it default, so all his orders after went through her bank card. Check your DHs and DDs recent orders to see if they match any payment amounts or dates.

This can’t be a subscription OP as Uber offers one uber eats subscription of 5.99 a month. This sounds like orders being placed.

LampsAndWatches · 15/06/2023 21:28

Thank you

I’ve checked all apps and accounts mentioned here for myself, DD and DH
found nothing so someone we don’t know has our credit card attached to their account.

spoke to the CC provider - NatWest and they told DH to take it up with Uber eats

£300 + isn’t a small amount of money to us and cancelling the original CC, ordering a new CC hasn’t stopped it happening.

tempted to open a new bank account with anyone other than NatWest

Right, if you're definitely not spending it, then it's fraudulent activity and you need to say that to your bank. Just be very clear that there are transactions you don't recognise and haven't made.

LadyJ2023 · 15/06/2023 21:44

It sure sounds like one of your kids was using it

they were really unhelpful all of this week!
