What are your favourite UK towns and cities to visit?(Besides London)

I'm always looking for somewhere new to visit and I wondered what other Mumsnetter's favourite places to visit are?

London is actually quite low on my list

I'd also like to spend more time in Edinburgh and Glasgow, having visited them both briefly.

Cambridge is nice

Thanks to you both. I put besides London because I thought it'd be the most popular answer and I wanted to hear some other suggestions, though I do love it.

I love York. Unspoilt compared to other places and history everywhere

Wakefield - a bit crap but close by and generally has what I need.

I love Stratford-upon-Avon and the surrounding Warwickshire countryside

Love Liverpool so much to do and see. Also Edinburgh, can’t wait to get back.

Bath and Canterbury

York, Durham and Bath are all gorgeous.

York. Harrogate. Leeds. Thirsk. Northallerton. All good for shopping, history, green spaces, cafes/bars/restaurants.

Edinburgh.
Chelsea (London).
Knutsford (Cheshire).
Lark Lane, Aigburth (Liverpool).
Warwick.
Guildford.
Shrewsbury.
Ascot.
Didsbury (Manchester).

Manchester, Harrogate, Leeds, Chester

Liverpool - had many free museums and large busy shopping area.

York - want to go back there.

Really liked the Roman Baths in Bath but wasn't t much impressed by rest of it.

Chester, Liverpool are lovely

Just working out how to retire there in luxury.

You can’t not love the history and beauty of York
Leeds is compact and brilliant for shopping with v cool bars and restaurants
Bath buildings are stunning
Liverpool is modern and vibrant

Cambridge is lovely. Punting is a great laugh on a sunny afternoon!

York, Edinburgh, Glasgow, Oxford, Hull.
London isn't high on my list either.

I vote for Bristol and Edinburgh
