Not a derail btw! Should have added their only merits seem to be their consistent backing of Johnson, whatever he says or does.

Why is Fabricant still there?

cakeorwine · 15/06/2023 07:49

And one of the comments about the questioning about the events by BJ

"I thank the right hon. Gentleman for his vote of confidence, but I can tell him that I am going to get on with the job. I believe that that is the right thing to do. I think it is very, very sad that when the public need to hear clarity from their officials and from politicians, the Opposition parties are trying to muddy the waters about events, or non-events, of a year ago. That is what they are doing today."

Q6. Will the Prime Minister tell the House whether there was a party in Downing Street on 13 November? (904648)
The Prime Minister Sharethis specific contribution
No, but I am sure that whatever happened, the guidance was followed and the rules were followed at all times.

(Oh - there was an event with fines on that day

On a point of order, Mr Speaker. Your advice has been very valuable today; I wonder whether you could extend it to this. I feel that there were some inconsistencies in the reply to my Question 6 in Prime Minister’s questions. Could you please advise me of next steps in managing the matter?
Mr Speaker Sharethis specific contribution
Unfortunately, I am not responsible for the answers—it is as simple as that—and I certainly do not want to be.

Boris Johnson and Rishi Sunak

The police inquiry is separate to the investigation carried out by civil servant Sue Gray.

'Fabricant on R4 this morning trying to claim the privileges committee have changed investigation and it's into whether he just misled parliament - and taken out knowingly.'

Honestly it won't be worth the paper it's written on. How can this ahem, impartial, committee pull a stunt like this?!

That’s the only qualification for Cabinet necessary these days it seems

heartsinvisiblefury · 15/06/2023 07:53

Now it's an impartial committee 😂😂🤣😂🤣😂🤣😂

Barrel scraping at its best!

Fabricant is one of those people who it's hard to believe anyone voted into his position. He has such a warped world view. Along with Dorries. How did anyone look at either of them and think yeah, you would be a great representative of our party, you should stand for election?

Oh yeah. I don't take him seriously!

When asked about his peerage he replied "well lots of people have questioned why it took me so long to get one" (paraphrased)

Notonthestairs · 15/06/2023 07:55

Johnson signed off the Investigation.

MPs agreed. Harman was unanimously voted in as Chair. The chair doesn't have a vote unless it is tied.

There is a Tory Majority on the Committee and in Parliament and in his constituency.

Parliamentary sovereignty in action.

Barrel scraping at its best!

It's is impartial.

Most of the people on it are Tory's.

So will be interesting what they confused about the Tory PM Wink

itsgettingweird · 15/06/2023 07:56

Should say majority not most.

heartsinvisiblefury · 15/06/2023 07:56

That is pretty funny, I'll give him that.

@itsgettingweird I know. I'm taking the piss out of another poster

I realised that.

Hence why I agreed it was impartial - to the Tory party.

It was tongue in cheek!

DuncinToffee · 15/06/2023 07:58

They are not the right kind of Conservatives?

DuncinToffee · 15/06/2023 07:58

They are not the right kind of Conservatives?

Of course not.

They literally will be anything other than fair unless this report comes and says Johnson is a paragon of truth and followed every rule to the letter every second of the day and has been persecuted. 🙄

heartsinvisiblefury · 15/06/2023 08:01

@itsgettingweird 😂😂😂 phew - I was getting worried you had me in the weird Boris fan camp for a second

Well let's see how the vote on it goes in Parliament - which represents the "will of the people" and is sovereign goes later.

IClaudine · 15/06/2023 08:05

From March this year:

"This report sets out next steps in our inquiry1 into whether the Rt Hon Boris Johnson MP misled the House of Commons and, if so, whether he committed a contempt"

Why hasn't Fabricant complained before about this. Or is he talking shite and the remit of the Commitee has not been changed?

I disagree - if Nadine Dorries was a Labour MP people wouldn't think twice.

And in in the 2022 call for evidence: no knowingly there either:

Has there been a change to the meaning of the word 'impartial'? As the members of this committee were agreed by parliament

Who in your opinion would be on an 'impartial committee'?

IClaudine · 15/06/2023 08:13

And finally, the original referral. Again no mention of the word knowingly. Fabricant is talking crap.

Question put and agreed to.

Resolved,

That this House

(1) notes that, given the issue of fixed penalty notices by the police in relation to events in 10 Downing Street and the Cabinet Office, assertions the Rt hon Member for Uxbridge and South Ruislip has made on the floor of the House about the legality of activities in 10 Downing Street and the Cabinet Office under Covid regulations, including but not limited to the following answers given at Prime Minister’s Questions: 1 December 2021, that “all guidance was followed in No. 10”, Official Report vol. 704, col. 909; 8 December 2021 that “I have been repeatedly assured since these allegations emerged that there was no party and that no Covid rules were broken”, Official Report vol. 705, col. 372; 8 December 2021 that “I am sickened myself and furious about that, but I repeat what I have said to him: I have been repeatedly assured that the rules were not broken”, Official Report vol. 705, col. 372 and 8 December 2021 “the guidance was followed and the rules were followed at all times”, Official Report vol. 705, col. 379, appear to amount to misleading the House; and

(2) orders that this matter be referred to the Committee of Privileges to consider whether the Rt hon Member’s conduct amounted to a contempt of the House, but that the Committee shall not begin substantive consideration of the matter until the inquiries currently being conducted by the Metropolitan Police have been concluded

The thing with the Starmer and Johnson investigation and that Johnson received a FPN - is that it was a whole year apart and different rules

The basic rules were quite similar in fact;
Gathering indoors with people from outside your household or support bubble was against the law. (April 2021 re-Starmer)

Groups of up to six people could meet outdoors on both dates - although pubs, restaurants, bars could serve groups of up to 6 people/2 households) outdoors in 2021. (Non-essential shops were open in June 2020).

Durham police and several legal opinions concluded no law had been broken. Do tell us exactly what your legal qualifications are and why you know better. Do tell us also exactly what relevance this has to Johnson lying to Parliament.

@Janiie see above. The word knowingly was not in the original referral. So Fabricant is talking crap or even lying. Not a good look for a Knight of the realm or whatever it is he is now.
