Anyone looking at FlightRadar?

There's an A380 supposed to be Heathrow to Dubai (UAE30) currently just north of Wakefield.

Thoughts?

Flightradar is fascinating and creepy all at the same time!

I am going to try to book my flights in future just so that I can get on the A380 option if there is one. Fab aircraft.

I get giddy at the sight of the Beluga airbus flying overhead. It looks far too heavy to be airborn.

I love the Belugas - they look almost cuddly. Grin

Oh god, not a FR post. Must not look, must not look, must not look. I'm a recovering wee yellow plane watcher.

I love to see the Osprey flying over, they have have two regular looking propellors which then turn up though 90 degrees in flight so they look like two mini helicopter rotors on the wings. Very pleased that I can now recognise them by their noise!

jajajajaja · 12/06/2023 20:25

How do all of you people know all of this? Do you track all flights?

QuintanaRoo · 12/06/2023 20:25

notimagain · 12/06/2023 20:03

Not sure about that particular track, but as a general point there's a lot of single engine ferry flying done across the Atlantic, though it often requires extra fuel tanks to be fitted and the aircraft usually don't go across the middle, they hop across via Greenland and Iceland...

It's usually aircraft being delivered from US makers to customers in Europe etc.

Yes, this one’s gone straight across which I thought was odd but think it may be heading for the Azores main island now. Dh said it probably has extra fuel tanks too. I hadn’t realised they could do this, but blimey it’s a long slow flight.

pussycatinfluffyslippers · 12/06/2023 20:26

@JudgeJ we can tell the difference between the A380 and a RyanAir/EasyJet by the engine note...that and the smaller planes always sound like a bag of spanners.

Not seen an Osprey...off to google.☺

Just Googled the registration and voila...

I literally have no idea what you’re talking about a plane is a plane to me and they fly in the sky.
That’s about as much as I know.

But what is so adorable is how it seems that you and your DH are both as obsessed as each other with planes.
I think that’s so cute and you sound so well matched 🥰

NC1843 · 12/06/2023 20:32

Oooh, a FR24 thread! We’re under one of the Heathrow flight paths for take off so I like to use FR to see what is roaring overhead at 2,500 ft and disturbing my sleep at some godforsaken hour

Pebblesontheside · 12/06/2023 20:33

I’m not the only one!! I watch it for hours, live between two London airports and near some raf bases so there’s always loads of drama going on!

Yep, bet someone has a sore backside...

Looking at the small print the aircraft appears to have a fire fighting role so I wonder if it's deploying to Europe for the dry season...

The aerial fire fighting can a appear to be a bit like a travelling circus with a lot the assets moving around the globe as seasons change.

Homeywomey · 12/06/2023 20:38

I have never been on flight radar before and I’ve now gone on it and am randomly clicking on flights seeing where they are going - it’s so addictive! Wishing I was on some of the flights it’s given me the holiday bug 😂

LizS16 · 12/06/2023 20:40

Flight radar is an amazing tool. I tracked my 3yr old and husband on a holiday I couldn't go on. I was able to tell my parents the plane was right over their house on the other side of the UK. Granny was in the garden and saw the plane go over!

GayPareeee · 12/06/2023 20:41

Bless it.

Grew up under the final approach to Heathrow, school had to stop when Concorde flew over as so loud. we all trooped out of our wedding to watch the final flight!

Now live under one of the holding patterns for LHR and LGW depending on the wind/weather. DH doesn't get it, can spend many a happy hour on FR

ny20005 · 12/06/2023 20:42

It was positioning up to Glasgow to perform the flight from GLA to DBX as the aircraft that was scheduled to do flight went tech on arrival to GLA

GayPareeee · 12/06/2023 20:42

Had a Chinook over earlier too, don't get that everyday (police helicopters, often, Chinooks not so much!)

Delighted to find more FR fans. I had the time of my life this afternoon between FR and my other love - lightningmaps, because I had a family member flying over so I saw the huge swathes of England with zero planes on one tab, and the apocalypse on lightningmaps on another!

EffortlessDesmond · 12/06/2023 20:47

There was thunder around Gatwick, so probably a safety precaution.

Chersfrozenface · 12/06/2023 20:47

If anything interesting goes over the garden, I'm straight indoors to check FR.

Also at airports waiting for delayed planes. "The inbound flight is flying over Corsica. Now it's over the straits. Now it"s flying down the length of Sardinia." I don't think it made time go any faster for my husband, but it kept me entertained.

CanadianJohn · 12/06/2023 20:49

The Dusseldorf - Edinburgh mix-up reminded e of this incident:

Some years ago I was on an evening flight Manchester to New York,... mid-Atlantic, the cabin lights flickered, and went out. After a minute or so the lights came back on, but kept flickering. Then the pilot announced "due to - uh - technical issues we would be diverting to Gander".

Gander is in Newfoundland. A woman behind me misunderstool, and started wailing in a loud voice. "Uganda! Why are we going to Uganda? That's in Africa, we're supposed to be going to America."

FormerlySpeckledyHen · 12/06/2023 20:49

What’s going on at Liverpool!?
