Mum sentenced to 28 months in prison for abortion pills

Used after the cut off point of 10 weeks.

Regardless of how far gone she was, surely this isn't right?

It is her body, despite me morally really thinking what she did was very wrong.

I have no idea what was going through her head and when @MakesMeFeelSad but I just know that I fully believe in a woman's right to bodily autonomy.

Gothambutnotahamster · 16/06/2023 22:34

Ok well maybe that's my cut off then @Itisyourturntowashthebath - once it's out of the woman's body, regardless of placenta.

Happy now?!

MakesMeFeelSad · 16/06/2023 22:35

And this whole as early as possible as late as necessary . mantra is tedious .

I doubt those posters would want to be the ones to carry out a termination at that stage and deal with the women giving birth

firsttimemum1230 · 16/06/2023 22:35

She in effect killed someone. It was a baby just over a month away from being full term . I personally don’t think her sentence was long enough

Gothambutnotahamster · 16/06/2023 22:35

It's still her body @Bananananananananana - so I will always believe in a woman's right to choose, even if she'd make different choices to me.

In your opinion.

No, I'm not happy.

If a woman wants to get rid of a late term pregnancy, she has to give birth. Why does the baby have to die first?

Gothambutnotahamster · 16/06/2023 22:37

Because it's her body and her choice not to have a baby.

MakesMeFeelSad · 16/06/2023 22:37

So you would be happy to be the one to terminate a 32 odd week fetus and deal with the birth then?

Gothambutnotahamster · 16/06/2023 22:38

If I knew what I was doing , then yes.

MakesMeFeelSad · 16/06/2023 22:39

Gothambutnotahamster · 16/06/2023 22:37

Because it's her body and her choice not to have a baby.

It is, that's why we have contraception and abortion up until 25 weeks . We have lots of choices as women we don't need to leave it until 32 weeks

CiderWithRosy · 16/06/2023 22:40

Gothambutnotahamster · 16/06/2023 22:37

Because it's her body and her choice not to have a baby.

Ok, but who do you expect to carry out these late term abortions on viable, healthy foetuses then?

MakesMeFeelSad · 16/06/2023 22:41

Gothambutnotahamster · 16/06/2023 22:38

If I knew what I was doing , then yes.

As a health care professional ?

Gothambutnotahamster · 16/06/2023 22:41

I'm happy to agree to disagree @MakesMeFeelSad - I'm not looking for a fight but nothing anyone says here will convince me of anything other than a woman's right to choose and have full bodily autonomy.

Itisyourturntowashthebath · 16/06/2023 22:42

Gothambutnotahamster · 16/06/2023 22:37

Because it's her body and her choice not to have a baby.

The baby is in her body, it has to come out.

She can't just decide she doesn't want it any more and expect it to vanish.

Late term early inductions may be available for woman who cannot stand being pregnant any more, but why do you assume that someone in that position is sound of mind and won't have regrets once giving birth. Just like the case in question.

oakleaffy · 16/06/2023 22:42

MichelleScarn · 16/06/2023 22:19

Seems to be if anyone other than mother has an opinion it's controlling, Orwellian.
If the "birther" (only 1 side uses that term).wants to kill a healthy baby it's 'go girl! End that parasite, you got the power! 👐'

I see what you are getting at.
Shockingly I have heard the term “ Parasite “ used, as if the baby is nothing but a tapeworm ( but that was said to a woman who was pregnant and wanted to be )

Even female dogs can have a morning after injection to prevent implantation if an accident happens - but doubt very much any vet would want to abort fully formed puppies.

Most people would find late stage abortion distressing and unethical.

Gothambutnotahamster · 16/06/2023 22:43

I'm not disagreeing with you @Itisyourturntowashthebath but it's still her body, her choice in my opinion.

MakesMeFeelSad · 16/06/2023 22:43

Gothambutnotahamster · 16/06/2023 22:38

If I knew what I was doing , then yes.

I'm not on about your inability to act like an adult and have a termination within legal time limits

Are you willing to be the one to inject a drug into a fetus heart at 30 odd weeks and then support the mother through labour

Because that is not what hcps signed up for

Gothambutnotahamster · 16/06/2023 22:44

I've never once said it's not distressing @oakleaffy but every woman should always have bodily autonomy.

MichelleScarn · 16/06/2023 22:45

@Gothambutnotahamster "I've already said I don't know about HCPs - I would hope they'd behave professionally and get on with the job in hand"....'YOU THERE NURSE, GET ON WITH THE JOB IN HAND, KILL THOSE BABIES AS THE MOTHER WANTS, I DONT CARE THEY'RE PHYSICALLY FINE, MUMMA SAYS DIE, THEY DIE'!

MakesMeFeelSad · 16/06/2023 22:45

Gothambutnotahamster · 16/06/2023 22:44

I've never once said it's not distressing @oakleaffy but every woman should always have bodily autonomy.

But would you be the one happy to carry out late term abortions?

Gothambutnotahamster · 16/06/2023 22:46

@MakesMeFeelSad If I were an HCP & that's what the woman wanted, then yes, I would help her as I don't see how anyone has the right to force anyone to have a baby and be a mother when they don't want to be.

AgathaSpencerGregson · 16/06/2023 22:46

Gothambutnotahamster · 16/06/2023 22:37

Because it's her body and her choice not to have a baby.

So presumably, foster having taken the drugs and expelled Lily, the paramedics were wrong to seek to revive her without foster’s express permission? Her choice not to have a baby, after all.

Gothambutnotahamster · 16/06/2023 22:48

I don't understand who foster is @AgathaSpencerGregson but as I've already said, if the baby isn't in the woman's body, then its up to the professionals to act as they see fit.

RedRosette2023 · 16/06/2023 22:48

I've already said I don't know about HCPs - I would hope they'd behave professionally and get on with the job in hand

bloody hell have we not learnt from the holocaust? Attitudes like that are dangerous. They’re not robots
