How does thunder and lightning make you feel? ⚡

Because it makes me feel... I don't know... morbid. Like I can feel a creepy atmosphere. I pay more attention to the sky, think about all the great unknown out there and the world just seems so overwhelming. I get very deep during a storm!

I love it! Excited and like a type of catharsis. Cosy feeling.

Very very frightening

Actually I quite like it.

But no one had used those words.

Still - we were camping last year in the Alps when a thunder and lightning storm hit and we stayed in the car instead. Much better

WeAreTheHeroes · 11/06/2023 21:06

It was thundering much of the time I was gardening this afternoon. I was hoping for rain as it was so hot and humid. There was lighting just before it rained around 4.30.

MrsJellybee · 11/06/2023 21:06

I love storms. They make me feel alive, and tap into something visceral and primitive.

SunnyEgg · 11/06/2023 21:07

Exciting as long as I’m not outside

Ilovebountybars · 11/06/2023 21:10

I absolutely love thunderstorms.

Needapadlockonmyfridge · 11/06/2023 21:11

It gives me a headache beforehand, that disappears after the storm has passed.

Rainbowreddy · 11/06/2023 21:11

I love it.
A few years ago I lived in an apartment in the centre of the city. It was very warm so I lay on my bed and opened the balcony doors. I was reading my Bible and was on Psalm 18 when the storm started. Anyone who knows Psalm 18 will know that it's very powerful and the storm was timed so perfectly that I felt like I'd experienced two at once!

usernother · 11/06/2023 21:12

I absolutely love it. I wish we had more storms.

thespy · 11/06/2023 21:17

I used to love thunderstorms so much - had to be dragged out of trees by my mother as a child (had climbed up to get a better view) .

Until I watched the discovery channel.. which showed a programme about lightning shooting out of clouds and travelling miles across clear skies to strike objects far away from the storm. Additionally, it showed stills of weird positive electrical charges (streamers?) reaching up from trees / people's heads / other objects to meet lightning or give it a route to earth 😱

Now I still love storms. But from the bowels of my house in case anything is rising up from my head. Too much tv watching "knowledge" can be a bad thing.

caringcarer · 11/06/2023 21:18

Like other poster, I often get a headache with it. Apparently it's to do with pressure change. I'm not keen on it but I know sometimes we need the high pressure to break.

BatshitCrazyWoman · 11/06/2023 21:18

Just before a storm I always feel on edge and slightly sick. When the storm actually hits, I feel better, and I absolutely LOVE the drama of it!

We were forecast stormy weather this afternoon, but I felt fine and there's been no storm. Tomorrow, I think.

I asked my GP to refer me for a consultation to the Bristol Homeopathic Hospital, for my hypertension, because I didn't fancy beta blockers. It was either the only NHS homeopathic hospital in the country or one of very few. The nice woman doctor said she needed to ask me quite a few questions to get a good idea of what treatment might work. One question was 'How do you feel just before a thunderstorm?' I said 'Excited'. She said that was a really important question, and my answer helped her a lot. She prescribed me a treatment and my blood pressure dropped so low I had to reduce the dose. They stopped offering homeopathic therapies in 2015

SirSidneyRuffDiamond · 11/06/2023 21:45

Before the storm breaks I feel muzzy headed and off-colour, with heightened anxiety. Once the thunder and lightning arrive normality is resumed and I even feel surges of excitement and satisfaction. Very odd. I can tell when a storm is on its way without looking at the forecast, just by how I am feeling.

PrincessHoneysuckle · 11/06/2023 21:53

I love it.I pretend that thunder is the footsteps of the t rex from jurassic park(the scene with the water in the glass shaking)

MooseBeTimeForSnow · 11/06/2023 21:56

I love them. We get some absolutely massive ones here. Not so keen on the hailstones the size of table tennis balls though - they cause havoc and millions of $ of damage.

I love a good storm, I find it exciting.

Razberryberet · 11/06/2023 21:58

Well, I made the mistake of reading about ball lightening! Don't do it!!! So now every time there is a storm im sweating it out under the covers thinking the lightening is going to come in the house!! I also feel the atmosphere is very heavy before a storm. I'm glad we have not had so much as a drop of rain today!

TroysMammy · 11/06/2023 21:58

I d do love a storm but usually they are at night and I sleep through them.

If it exists ball lightning is very very rare, and due to lack of evidence, many scientists don't accept that it exists as a natural phenomenon.

SmurfetteSalad · 11/06/2023 22:04

Love it

LubaLuca · 11/06/2023 22:06

Im ambivalent. I quite like the spectacle of the sky going black in the day and then the flashes and crashes.

I didn't like yesterday's though - the wind was sudden and violent, all the upstairs windows were flung wide open and the rain poured in. I couldn't reach to close them and almost fell from the bedroom window balancing on a chair trying to reach the handle 😳

The rational part of my brain tells me this and in the day I can cope but at night it's definitely real 😂

whataboutme77 · 11/06/2023 22:07

I love it, I feel exhilarated!
Me and ds went out for a run around in the storm last night, we did get very wet though.

NellyTimes · 11/06/2023 22:19

Completly terrified, I have a huge phobia of thunderstorms and I think you're all very odd not being scared of the random death rays hurtling out of the sky. I, on the other hand, spent the afternoon hiding under a blanket listening to soothing 80s music, which is definitely the correct response.
