Biggest predictor for whether someone voted Remain or Leave was Educational Attainment.

As for working people supporting Brexit, nope, a majority of working tax payers in 2016 rejected Brexit.

StaunchMomma · 09/06/2023 21:38

We need to get the hashtag #Tantrump going on all the socials

What about non-working taxpayers like Boris and working non-tax payers like Rishi?

I think it is important to know how people in those two categories voted.

@jojo1067

Spot on. Anyone would think there was a vindictive campaign against him. His opponents have had their pound of flesh, when he resigned as PM. Yes, ok, he has lied, and he's no saint, but do the population of the UK want their representatives to be choir boys (and girls)?
They are trying their best to ensure he never comes back into politics, but if I was in Boris' shoes I wouldn't want to. After steering this sinking ship through Covid, he is toppled. (Did everyone follow the 2 metre rule? My former NDN had monthly parties all through the Lockdowns, and the police never turned up at her door)

Don't lie, break the rules and you wont be subject to a commons inquiry.

But like Trump, he thinks rules don't apply to him, even rules he told us almost every night to obey.

Crikeyalmighty · 09/06/2023 21:40

@baroqueandblue I would imagine most of us on here are 'normal and working' but clearly none of us count.

This sudden concern for normal working people is very touching but basically just designed to take in those UKIP type voters. Do you think Rees Mogg gives a flying f* about 'ordinary ' people- I think he would be quite happy with charity and the workhouses

IClaudine · 09/06/2023 21:40

Absolutely delighted.

VimtoVimto · 09/06/2023 21:41

Florenz · 09/06/2023 21:31

Why don't the former Remainers start their own Rejoin party? I'm sure they'd do very well at the next general election... NOT!

Brexit is a done deal and most normal working people fully support it. The remainers are the one that looks like fools with their never ending whinging. They need to move onwards and upwards instead of complaining about losing a referendum nearly a decade ago.

Is Brexit going well?

Can you advise me why a marginal victory was taken as a mandate for a hard Brexit?

wildinthecountry · 09/06/2023 21:42

I want to see a news channel put together a political 'best bits' of Bojo's career especially the Pepa pig speech . We might as well laugh about some of it now that it's gone (for now) .

PerfectYear321 · 09/06/2023 21:43

Thank the lord

Crikeyalmighty · 09/06/2023 21:43

@VimtoVimto are you are a normal working person ? because apparently views only count if you are - and they all love Brexit - apparently. Weird then they lost so many councils recently

Lifeomars · 09/06/2023 21:44

I listened to Nadine on Talk Radio being interviewed about why she resigned. Very vague but it's now clear that she knew her hero Johnson was about to resign as an MP.

I'm no fan of Johnson, his behaviour has been disgraceful, but I do believe the Tory party and the Labour Party are both frightened by his popularity and determined to get rid of him. I suspect they may rue the day.

Who is he popular with other than those who are so far gone that they cannot see the damage his greed, lies and corruption has done to this country? He is a truly appalling person who has been sacked from every job he has ever had, who has always, lied, cheated and blagged his way through life. Had he not been born into wealth and privilege I wonder what he would be doing? Jail time more than likely, I had a quick look at the comments on the Mail online and to my surprise the majority of them are calling him a liar and corrupt, one would expect Mail readers to still support him but it looks as if the scales are falling from their eyes too

MotherIand · 09/06/2023 21:45

Hurrah. Vile horror that he is.

I think I will reserve my sympathy for the millions of people who cared enough about their fellow human beings to stick to the guidelines, even when it cost them dear.

Johnson is the lowest of the low. He only became PM because of the rabid support of Brexiteers. I am so very glad his career has ended in shame.

ToWhitToWhoo · 09/06/2023 21:47

Probably looked at the polls in his constituency, and preferred to resign his seat rather than lose it. Now he'll be returning to his career as a professional liar, I mean journalist, and causing as much trouble as possible for Sunak. I thought that no party could be more fractious and divided than the 1980s Labour party, but the current Tory party is proving me wrong!

mrsbyers · 09/06/2023 21:48

Just to move to a safe seat

Random789 · 09/06/2023 21:49

I thnk he is resigning now so that he can claim to have been 'forced out' by a committee (and/or by Harriet Harman) rather than waiting until it goes to a Commons vote and facing the more irretrievable career destruction of being voted into a suspension by MPs and then subject to a recall petition from his constituents. He is a Trumpian little shit, wanting to make the populist claim that the establishment has rigged things against him. Poisonous man.

ShandaLear · 09/06/2023 21:52

Whu · 09/06/2023 20:26

Did anyone else wonder if they are named as being found in a compromising position together during party gate?!

Oh heck, I hope there’s no photos of that.

ToWhitToWhoo · 09/06/2023 21:53

Florenz · 09/06/2023 21:24

This is a ridiculous argument. How few people in the UK wanted to Remain? Clearly fewer than wanted Brexit.

It was time for Johnson to go. Do Labour have a chance of winning either Boris or Dorrie's seats?

Boris' seat could well go Labour. Dorries' not likely to.

caringcarer · 09/06/2023 21:53

The interesting thing is Boris and Rishi were at exactly the same parties/Covid meetings and received the same fines. Nadine Forties was named in Boris' honours list so will be going up to the Lord's.

She wasn’t on the list when it was published

brianixon · 09/06/2023 21:55

Caroline Lucas, Nadine is that you? Boris Churchill
Knighthood for Jacob
Quite a week really, a bit premature to start the 'Silly Season'.

pointythings · 09/06/2023 21:56

@FineganFois everyone of my friends, family and colleagues followed the rules. As did my NDN, who was ECV because of cancer treatment. Don't judge everyone by your low, low standards.

@Florenz do I want choirboys and choirgirls for politicians? No. What I want is competent, capable adults who do not lie, break their own rules, trash international law and the economy and funnel slush funds of my taxes to their mates. Not a lot to ask, is it?

VimtoVimto · 09/06/2023 21:57

I’ve retired now but in 2016 I was working in an admin job so I think that’s fairly normal.

Newspaper journalist on BBC just speculated there could be more resignations this evening.

Please PLEASE don’t say they’re going to split off and form a new ‘we’ll get Brexit done’ party 🤮
