Think what you're hearing, @Reic0003 , is the sound of the tide turning. Only this time, you're on the wrong shore.

Not a nice feeling, is it?

Reic0003 · 10/06/2023 23:18

Wouldn't you consider that fairly successful? We are one of the most densely populated countries in the world and obviously viruses spread more in a closely populated area. I think, considering our population, diversity and cultural problems, we did bloody well. Could have been far worse.

BunnyBettChetwynnd · 10/06/2023 23:18

Following @jgw1 's introduction all has gone quiet from @Reic0003's side of the debating chamber.

I wouldn't count having to resign in disgrace because you couldn't cope without having a birthday party when you are 56 years old being successful, but each to their own.

Its a bit disappointing, I was enjoy an educated and well reasoned discussion.

Reic0003 · 10/06/2023 23:24

Why are you all so focused on a non existent 56th birthday cake? Is that all you can cone up with? Why bother?

BunnyBettChetwynnd · 10/06/2023 23:25

"The UK failed to act quickly in response to the emergence of COVID-19. There was no clear policy approach at the start of the pandemic, with initial contract tracing abandoned in mid-March and a significant delay before population-wide distancing strategies were introduced. Delays continued throughout 2020." British Medical Association.

"Boris Johnson has faced a flurry of criticism after it was reported he did not attend five Cobra crisis meetings on the coronavirus as it spread across the world and made inroads into the UK. " The Independent

Who said anything about cake?

The question that was posed was why your hero when he was 56 years old needed a birthday party when millions of children were banned by a law he had introduced from having parties.

DuncinToffee · 10/06/2023 23:29

Not sure if reic3000 (or Rong) understands what the Privileges Committee inquiry was about

BunnyBettChetwynnd · 10/06/2023 23:30

Is it @Reic0003 , or am I Rong?

Other Tory Covid successes include -
PPE failures
Sending sick patients to care homes
Dominic Cummings eye test
Matt Hancock's groping
Corrupt handling of contracts

Reic0003 · 10/06/2023 23:33

OK. Not sure what post I am replying here to as all coming in at different points. However, I am obviously a Conservative Boris supporter who has views that most of you will not even discuss. Your perogative, as are my views. If there was any impartiality I would carry on but obviously there isn't so good bye.

But we did want to discuss them. I for instance wanted to discuss the necessity of birthday parties for someone to be able to run the country. @Reic0003

Crikeyalmighty · 10/06/2023 23:35

@Reic0003 you must have been watching different PMQS to me then- comes over to me as a bumbling , disorganised and scruffy oaf who changed his policies depending which way the public clapometer was blowing that day. Let's not forget this was the kind of guy who as London mayor thought it was normal to pay £150k for a holding page website on something that never happened - £4ks worth of work at most. Who thought Sue Grey was the best thing since sliced bread until she decided that she didn't much agree with the cut of his jib- and as you've said about HIGNFY thinks that he has such witty banter - that you can almost hear him waiting for the laughs and applause. He doesn't have charisma , he makes people laugh because he acts the fool - I think it's part of the act because he is just desparate for people to like him. Sad day!

No doubt good fun for a beer and a gossip -- but only in it for the glory and the celebrity and that doesn't make a good PM .

That was a very short stay!

Reic0003 · 10/06/2023 23:38

@Reic0003 do you want to discuss the likely of the next General Election?

I for one think some of the predictions are over-egging the majority Labour will have, but it will still likely be in 3 figures.

I listened to Nadine on Talk Radio being interviewed about why she resigned. Very vague but it's now clear that she knew her hero Johnson was about to resign as an MP.

I'm no fan of Johnson, his behaviour has been disgraceful, but I do believe the Tory party and the Labour Party are both frightened by his popularity and determined to get rid of him. I suspect they may rue the day.

Scared of him or just fed up with his shit?

Florenz · 11/06/2023 00:06

I think people need to let it go regarding Boris. He's not the PM anymore, he's not even an MP anymore. It's not healthy to go on hating someone, look at Thatcher, people were still burning effigies of her and blaming her for all their problems until the day she died and probably afterwards as well. People need to take ownership of their own lives, no politician is going to make everything better or make everything much worse. It's personal responsibility that decides your fate.

Government policies do have an impact on people though.

In many ways. Government can have a massive impact on people and their lives. For good or for worse.

I despair of democracy when I see people posting such ignorant rubbish.

Yes, people need to take personal responsibility as much as they can, but you're a fool if you believe that government policy doesn't have a major impact on people's lives.

It's always all about the Tory Party isn't these days?

Never about the country.

Sick of it.

I understand this completely. But is it really that bad to enjoy the schadenfreude? Blush

So, most successful leader for covid. Got brexit done and working. World leader in vaccination programme which saved millions of lives. Total failure, eh?

"Most successful leader for covid"? Remember the Cheltenham Festival fuck up, remember the missed Cobra meetings, remember the massive PPE failures, remember the care home deaths? You seriously believe no other national leader did better than that?

As for vaccinations, yes, they started well, mostly because of the Herculean efforts put in by the NHS to make it work. But it's accepted that it all went a bit disastrously wrong as soon as complacency set in and the government failed to ensure adequate supplies of boosters.

As for Brexit done and working, hahahahaha.

Do tell, what is your view on little matters like repeated iies to Parliament and the electorate, blagging redecoration costs off Tory donors, the Owen Paterson fuck-up, to say nothing of reappointing a known sex pest to a position of power and then sending people out to lie about it?

I would love to forget about Boris if his supporters would let it go and would accept what an utter failure he was. And if they would recognise the sheer inhumanity of the right wing policies he and his supporters espouse.

Like it or not, what politicians do affects all our lives. Not sure if you've noticed, but we have to obey the laws they pass, and pay the taxes they impose and then squander. We cannot ignore them, sadly.

ilovesooty · 11/06/2023 02:07

It might be easier to forget about Johnson if he didn't persist in courting publicity.
