Plus sized summer clothes

noimaginationforausername · 09/06/2023 13:05

Can any plus sized women please let me know what you are wearing now the weather is getting warmer? I'm stuck in my jeans with a baggy T-shirt and I'm bored and sweaty 🥵

Please don't answer telling me I can wear what I like, I know that but I don't want to go out in cycling shorts with my fat arse and fat knees on display! I want to look casual and nice and not be boiling and self conscious.

I work from home and do the school run twice a day so just casual stuff and I'm a size 18 on the bottom and 20 on top.

So fed up of wearing jeans and everyone asking me if I'm hot!

Help!

Linen trousers (Next are good) and loose cotton tops.

stackhead · 09/06/2023 13:18

I live in dresses in the summer. A pair of snag chub rub shorts and a midi dress is my basic summer uniform.

Fuck anyone who takes offense at my knees!

IHeartGeneHunt · 09/06/2023 13:18

Yes linen trousers! Or loose trousers and a vest top or t shirt. I wear a lot of summer dresses with chub rub shorts underneath. I wear them with knee length linen dresses too

Matalan have a great linen mix trouser, cropped wide leg, in lots of colours. Elastic waistband. Needs ironing but no other downside!

PricklyMonkey · 09/06/2023 13:20

I like the harem style trousers from Morrisons as I find them very comfortable and the cap sleeve T shirts from Next.

bibbityboppityboo · 09/06/2023 13:36

H&M longer shirt dresses (green stripe and blue stripe) are super flattering imo as they tie around the waist and they're lovely and cool.

What size are you? Plus size in shops can be anything from size 16-30 so a general idea would be useful, for suggestions.
Where do you carry your weight? Maxi dresses, linen trousers, dressed with shorts underneath etc will be the normal suggestions you'd get but if you carry all your weight on your middle or your legs for example we might be able to tailor the advice a bit. My mum is a bigger woman but carries it fairly evenly everywhere, my auntie is all hips and thighs so she dresses very differently. X

Wide legged cropped trousers or palazzo pants (not linen, hate linen!). I'm wearing black wide cropped trousers (from stich fix own brand) and a black t shirt tucked in today. I'm an 18.

MrsPelligrinoPetrichor · 09/06/2023 13:58

There's loads of clothes in those sizes, absolutely no reason to be stuck in jeans. I'm wearing a cotton t shirt and a White Stuff maxi skirt.

Outandup · 09/06/2023 14:11

Anything linen or pure cotton - trousers, cropped trousers in different widths, linen shorts and boxy tops etc. M&S, Next and the supermarkets are good for basic items in linen/cotton or if you want to spend more have a look at the Style & Beauty forum on here.

mumonthehill · 09/06/2023 14:18

I currently have on a black sleeveless maxi dress from Primark, it has pockets!! H and M great and worth a look for wide leg trousers and dresses, be careful with the sizes as on some things they come up big. I also wear Cos dresses.

Hawthornflowers · 09/06/2023 14:23

I'm varying between cropped wide leg jeans and t shirt, midi slouchy jersey dresses and flowy crinkle cotton trousers and broderie cotton tops. At home just thin joggers / harems and vest tops generally. I've got most of these from Simply Be, Roman curve and Yours

She said in her post she is an 18 bottom and 20 top

deathbyhayfever · 09/06/2023 14:33

Maxi dress, flip flops and rub shorts for long walks!

Can't think of anything more uncomfortable than jeans to work from home.

Hamserfan · 09/06/2023 14:34

Im wearing a v neck t shirt from next (18) and some 100% cotton knee length shorts from yours (20) Agree with a previous poster that there are now lots of things available in this sort of size range. Those Matalan trousers up thread look lovely I also have some pull on chambray trousers from Landsend which are nice thick material but still feel cool on if you do not like the really pale colours. When I was a size 22 around 5 years ago then everything seemed to be in sweaty polyester but that is no longer the case.
Good luck in searching

Doggymummar · 09/06/2023 14:43

I was wearing shorts, but had to go to supermarket and no one needs to see my dimpled thighs so changed in culottes. George at Asda a few summers back. Yesterday was jeans and a linen jacket day before harem pants and vest top. As we are in Chat and not the style board I shall tell you they were all from Temu app. I am unemployed and have lost three stone so CAN'T pay a fortune for highstreet stuff and last YEAR'S stuff looks too big. Quality is better than Primark, maybe peacocks

RebulahConundrum · 09/06/2023 14:45

I'm a 20/22 and get a lot of stuff from supermarkets, especially Sainsburys and Tesco. They often have decent things in. Harder to finder plus size clothes in 'normal' shops these days.

noimaginationforausername · 09/06/2023 14:45

Dresses, all summer long (mostly what I would consider the 'Amish' type that are fairly long and cover a multitude of sins. Baggy and cool {as in temperature wise - I do not look cool 😂 ]) and cotton so generally comfy.

Shorts or chub rubs underneath.

This kind of thing...,.

Out of mostly panic, due to going on holiday with a severe lack of any clothes for hot weather, I ordered from Shein. I'm a size 20, and 5ft2

Was pleasantly surprised. 2/3 dresses, felt a little thin but were good, light and cool. Some baggy shorts that don't make me look particularly dumpy. Really nice. I'm fairly picky with clothes, and had 1 dress and 1 top out of the fairly large order that I didn't like. There was actually loads I liked when I started properly looking, compared to what felt only 2/3 dresses on next.

Not sure if it's just me, but I found yours really hard to navigate the dresses when looking. Great if I wanted a proper going out party dress, but trying to filter summer dresses - then by midi/mini (because maxis look like tents on me (and just cause I'm fat...it doesn't mean I'm tall)), it didn't seem to work.

fetchacloth · 09/06/2023 15:42

Bonmarche have a great range of lightweight linen trousers and harem style trousers which are really comfortable to wear in the summer. They also have some good summer tops which are not tight fitting.
