Plus sized summer clothes

Can any plus sized women please let me know what you are wearing now the weather is getting warmer? I'm stuck in my jeans with a baggy T-shirt and I'm bored and sweaty 🥵

Please don't answer telling me I can wear what I like, I know that but I don't want to go out in cycling shorts with my fat arse and fat knees on display! I want to look casual and nice and not be boiling and self conscious.

I work from home and do the school run twice a day so just casual stuff and I'm a size 18 on the bottom and 20 on top.

So fed up of wearing jeans and everyone asking me if I'm hot!

Help!

Tu, Next and Matalan have a good choice. Cropped trousers, thin cargo pants and lots of dresses

MyFaceIsAnAONB · 09/06/2023 17:02

currently living in:

Sunflower print trousers from lucy&yak - baggy and elasticated!

Maxi dresses

Maxi skirt & tshirt

workout gear

PJs when home 😄

Thanks everyone for all of the suggestions, I'm definitely more of a trouser/Jean person than dresses but now someone has mentioned the chub rub shorts I think I might give them a go and order a couple of dresses to see how I look. I think I try to hide beneath clothes so just jeans and a big T-shirt but everyone still knows I'm fat so maybe I need to completely change the way I dress.

I love those Matalan trousers so I'm going to order a couple of those as well.

Lots to look through so thank you.

Jumpsuits, I find them really light and no concerns with chub rub

Sewingdufus · 09/06/2023 20:56

I make a lot of my clothing.

But I also supplement with clothes from Next, Seasalt, Landsend and Tu (Sainsbury’s). I particularly like cropped leggings (mainly Seasalt) with tunic tops (again Seasalt when bought rather than made), dresses and culottes - but not all at the same time.

Magenta65 · 09/06/2023 20:58

Simply be is your friend. Plenty of summer dresses, jumpsuits, culottes with a vest too/cami, crinkle/plisse floral trousers and a plain T-shirt etc. that’s my summer wardrobe as a 22/24

Magenta65 · 09/06/2023 20:58

Plus I was never a dress person u til I wore cycle shorts or chub rub shorts from snag tights underneath. Absolute game changer

Magenta65 · 09/06/2023 20:59

Also second matalan, they had some fab bits when I went in yesterday

HaveWeGotAnyCake · 09/06/2023 21:00

I'm size 22 but have got loads of summer clothes - dresses from Asda, Simply Be, Yours Clothing, Bon Marche and Evans. I can't bear to wear jeans or trousers in summer. I like to be comfortable.

TheCyclingGorilla · 09/06/2023 21:46

In another thread I said culottes. I wear chub rub shorts but in summer it can get quite, sweaty, down there! I prefer 3/4 cotton troos, culottes or shorts (not short shorts, ones that reach my knees). I have bought one new dress for this summer and that's it! I wear loose cotton tees or blouses and sandals. If it gets super-hot I tend not to wear trainers. 🫠😵‍💫🤢 (smelly).

Callingallbutterflies · 09/06/2023 21:58

I am similar size. Harem trousers from forgotten Tribes in different prints. Plain v neck t shirts. Linen trousers and shirts. Long linen dresses with pockets and the jockey version of snag shorts. I have a short sleeve wrap dress from H&m on today. Very floaty and comfy... Well over the knee.

Gracewithoutend · 09/06/2023 22:17

I'm the same size as you. 20 top, 18 bottom. I wear crops from Roman and Bonmarche (bengaline fabric). They're both super comfortable. And tunic type tops that hide my tummy and bottom.
I'm thinking of getting some dresses but I do sometimes feel like a dress makes me look even fatter.

Homemadearmy · 09/06/2023 22:54

I've had some lovely bits from shien. I'm on a low budget and usually like the op I just wear the same stuff year round but this year I've splashed out on some summer stuff

BigPussyEnergy · 11/06/2023 15:23

I’ve got a couple of boho long dresses from Apricot at New Look which always get compliments. Also a matching top and trouser combo from Matalan that looks like a jumpsuit but is more practical! Will try and find pics. Top is 18 and bottom 20 like you, and while I will wear shorts at home, nobody needs to see my flabby legs unless I’m on actual holiday, in which case they can fuck off!

MymateDave · 11/06/2023 15:27

I bought a few pairs of size 18 linen trousers from tesco. Elastic waist And some tops to match. So comfy and definitely keep my fat bum hidden

BigPussyEnergy · 11/06/2023 15:36

Apricot dress

and pic of trousers but it looks like Matalan top is out of stock online so may need to go in person.

for me it’s as much about the fabric as the cut, as I need cotton and breathable fabrics not polyester etc, which so many cheap dresses are made from. That’s why I like the Apricot selection.

M and S have some nice dresses. Various lengths and styles. Linen good too. I avoid shorts as my legs not great.

Iceicebabytoocold · 11/06/2023 16:11

Shein have a curve section, some lovely items for summer on their website and not too costly so if you fancy trying a dress and find that it not you, it is not a big loss.

Righttherights · 11/06/2023 16:13

In the same boat here but big boobs and smaller hips but big tummy. I’m 5 ft 10 and size 16-20 depending on shop and style and a 16/18 bottom. Tried those all in one linen mix numbers yesterday in Tesco, hoping they could be the holy grail for barrel coverage, but the proportions were all wrong- crutch up by my waist and waist under boobs. The shirt/shorts play suit/all in one was just hideous on me too. I have to avoid anything too flowing as it jettisons off my boobs and just looks like a huge marquee! Big floral looks like curtains on me and emphasises my size IMO.
I’ m going for shaped non fussy tops/ t shirts ( Next £8.50) and linen mix or Hareem style bottoms. ( Elasticated/ drawstring waist-Next - £20?) . If you get a shaped t- shirt with say more capped sleeves or a pocket they look smarter and you can dress them up or down especially if black, as fabric quite expensive looking. ( Tesco/Next (£8.50 - 10)
I do also have some long jean shorts from Sainsbos that I can just about get away with, if I wear a scooped/ longer backed T-shirt.
I noticed that Tesco and Peacocks have stuff very similar to Next and not silly money. Lots of sizes available.
Hope that helps!

Spanielsanddaughters · 11/06/2023 20:58

H&M linen is great. They have a good selection of bottoms as long as not sold out.
XL should be ok.

Follow fabfatandfortyplus on Instagram. She wears some gorgeous outfits and often does try ones in M&S. Really good for giving you realistic ideas.

Susurrar · 12/06/2023 19:03

Linen (mix) trousers are your friend if you’re not a dress person. I got some really reasonably priced from Yours a couple of years ago, full length, cropped and “shorts”, which is not as scary as it sounds, they’re really knee length. I wear them with vest tops and a white linen shirt over because I don’t like bare arms.

I wear a lot of dresses too and as someone mentioned above already, snag chub rub shorts are a game changer. TBH I needed something like that even when I was a size 12, nothing to do with size.

AnonKat · 12/06/2023 19:04

I've found M&s great for cotton basics. Yours clothing is great aswell!
