Continuation of previous threads (thread 7).

The new lair of JTT escapees is all cosy and homey; we have truly settled here. Outside, the garden is blooming with spring flowers. Inside, the hearth is glowing, pictures are up on the walls, rugs are down on the floors (and assorted pets curled up on them).

We just won’t mention the gnawed bones of our prey over there in the corner of the cave…

Recently, my daughter has been raging about girl's trousers and the lack of pockets. She's very pleased that the pair of jeans she has now have proper pockets and has decided to make women's trousers etc with pockets, when she leaves school.

This morning, she was rather pleased when I dug out a double spring hook, which goes on her belt hook and key fob.

MmePoppySeedDefage · 28/07/2023 04:56

I recently bought myself some men's Levi's 501s. At the time they fitted better than all the women's Levi's I tried at the same time. They are also made of better quality, thicker denim and the deep pockets, oh the pockets! Such a revelation. And £55 not £100-odd.

I've lost a bit of weight recently so they are now a bit big, especially on the waist, but they are perfect for days when I work from home as they are so comfortable and warm. Plus I can stick my hands in the pockets.

Britinme · 28/07/2023 05:11

I've just finished reading "Station Eleven", which was gripping and beautifully written. I don't think it's the first of a trilogy though.

Kucinghitam · 28/07/2023 06:05

My DDs prefer “boys’” trousers because they’re roomier, more robustly constructed, and have properly-sized pockets.

I don't know if this article in washpo is a joke or not.

It sounds excellent - a strategy to keep your goals on track using "cognitive offloading, otherwise known as "making a list on a bit of paper".

Gonners · 28/07/2023 09:00

1300 words to say "write it down"?

BinturongsSmellOfPopcorn · 28/07/2023 09:26

That's impressive stacking.

Tricyrtis2022 · 28/07/2023 12:41

What a nice thread that is. This is a great site for ideas like that.

Just back from another dental appointment and am relieved to say that all went well. The morning after that ghastly ordeal with the tooth extraction I woke up with another infection, so went back and was prescribed another course of antibiotics. Thankfully the worked well, though the made me feel dreadful and gave me the shits. At today's check up, the dentist said everything is healing nicely and most of the fragments have now gone. I said to her that if I need any further extractions, we have to find another way and she agreed, saying she'll refer me to an orthodontic surgeon and also recommend sedation. She also said that I did incredibly well and pretty much anyone else would have called a halt to the procedure before the end. The reason I didn't do that is because it would have left me with a half-extracted tooth and I just wanted to get it over with. If all goes well from now on, the next visit is a check up in six months.

Now it's time for lunch and there are some Szechuan dumplings that need eating so I'm going to eat them.

Excellent Tri, and thanks for the link to the mug porn thread. It's good to know that I'm not alone in having very specific requirements of my mugs.

Tricyrtis2022 · 28/07/2023 14:01

The mug thread is great. I bought some mugs from https://www.polkadotlane.co.uk a couple of years ago and they're still going strong. Sadly, the ones I chose are no longer available but I got the last three. They're bigger than expected and hold a good big mug of tea.

That is a lovely mug. I've been looking at their site and if I had money to spare I'd be spending a fair amount there. They have such lovely pottery!

I forgot something that happened yesterday on my way back from college. I tend to smile at people I pass because why not. An elderly woman was about to pass me and I was smiling. She said, "Don't you fucking grin at me!" I was so taken about that I responded, "Fuck off!" My gruntle was dissed but by the time I got home and put my feet up I forgot about it until I was out with Snoop this afternoon and it came back to me. We laughed about it because it was really quite mental.

Britinme · 29/07/2023 04:00

By the way, I'm reading the first of yet another trilogy of post-apocalyptic novels. This is the Silo series by High Howey. The first book is called Wool. It's been made into a streaming programme and I saw the first season, which prompted me to read it (and the rest). The book is pretty good so far. I can see some differences with the TV show but that stuck fairly close to the broad thrust of the book.

Britinme · 28/07/2023 05:11

I've just finished reading "Station Eleven", which was gripping and beautifully written. I don't think it's the first of a trilogy though.

I don’t know why I thought it was a trilogy! Probably Amazon showed me two other books and told me people often buy all three together. Anyway, I wish it was a trilogy, I liked it much better than Louise Welsh’s A Lovely Way To Burn which IS the first part of a trilogy that I’m not interested enough to read the rest of. And I have no idea what relevance her title has to the story. Maybe I fell asleep while reading and missed a big chunk.

I’d stay right here if civilisation fell. Wood for burning and rivers to drink from/wash in. Plenty of sheep and poultry to eat, and there’s probably enough heating oil in the village’s oil tanks to last a few years. One neighbour’s water comes from a natural underground spring, so I might have to move in there when he perishes in the apocalyptic event. Obviously the first thing I’ll do is source a gun from my farmer neighbours.

Antibiotic diarrhoea can be helped by eating natural yoghurt. Eat it one hour after a tablet. Sorry for your horrid tooth woes.

Tricyrtis2022 · 29/07/2023 07:39

Thing is, Sinner, I ate loads of yoghurt. Kimchi too and still got the shits.

SinnerBoy · 29/07/2023 08:48

Oh no!

Tricyrtis2022 · 29/07/2023 09:15

Yeah, but I had to take 8 tablets a day and that might have had something to do with it. Thank goodness it's done now.

DeanElderberry · 29/07/2023 09:21

Blue cheese is good for helping the gut bacteria to get themselves re-organised after antibiotics.

Taking antibis is horrid, but they save our lives, so I suppose that makes them a good thing really.

Tricyrtis2022 · 29/07/2023 09:37

Antibiotics are a brilliant thing, it's just a shame about the side effects.

Not a fan of blue cheese, but a couple of weeks ago we made a washing up bowl full of kimchi and there's still plenty of it. If we don't have a stir fry, I have it with eggs and that's good. Mr Tric tried some with pork pie, which sounds vile, but he said he like it.

MouseMinge · 29/07/2023 09:55

I've read that trilogy, @Britinme . It goes downhill in places but it's a good read in the end. I'd love to watch the adaptation but it's on a streaming service that I don't have. Can't remember which off the top of my head but was gutted that neither Netflix nor Prime had got it.

Gonners · 29/07/2023 12:59

My gut isn't a fan of antibiotics but I was told the solution by a South African dentist: take probiotics as well. No, they don't cancel each other out. 😉You need a big old dose, though and the best ones are specifically intended to be taken with antibiotics. Optibac is the brand.

Britinme · 29/07/2023 13:46

Silo is streaming on Amazon Prime, but season 1 only goes to halfway through book 1. They added quite a bit of back story to the book. We enjoyed it though.

MouseMinge · 29/07/2023 19:15

It's on Amazon Prime?! Ah, just checked. It's on Apple TV here. Bloody Apple, ruining my viewing pleasures.

MavisMcMinty · 29/07/2023 19:17

I AM ROASTING A BIG FAT CHICKEN.

Oh yes. Cauli cheese, roasties in goose fat. No stuffing - no Paxo in the larder - but Yorkshires.
