Thread 8 - TalkLair: “Brewing Russell's teapot”

Continuation of previous threads (thread 7).

The new lair of JTT escapees is all cosy and homey; we have truly settled here. Outside, the garden is blooming with spring flowers. Inside, the hearth is glowing, pictures are up on the walls, rugs are down on the floors (and assorted pets curled up on them).

We just won’t mention the gnawed bones of our prey over there in the corner of the cave…

One of these would have been good:

Take paracetamol and ibuprofen (if you can) regularly for the next 48 hours, Tric - aim to keep the pain away rather than just react every time it gets really bad. Codeine too, if available.

Awwwww!

SinnerBoy · 19/07/2023 15:05

Total sympathy on the tooth front, I've had 3 abscesses over the years. All came out, eventually.

Tricyrtis2022 · 19/07/2023 15:09

Ibuprofen doesn't agree with me but I've got paracetamol and some codeine. My dad - retired GP - told me taking painkillers regularly works better as you keep a certain level of them in your system, so I shall be doing that. Feel like I've taken a real beating today.

MavisMcMinty · 19/07/2023 15:12

Good, and take it easy for the next couple of days, your body has had a shock. Even with the easiest extraction it’s still trauma.

MavisMcMinty · 19/07/2023 15:13

…Good about the painkillers I mean, not the beating.

Tricyrtis2022 · 19/07/2023 15:26

Thanks, Mavis, good advice.

Glad I got some no-chew meals sorted before today, that's for sure.

MavisMcMinty · 19/07/2023 15:36

Heh, I lived on Heinz tomato soup with black pepper and grated cheese for 6 weeks when I broke my jaw and had it wired up. My boyfriend brought me in a flask of it every evening. I lost 2 stone over that 6 weeks.

MavisMcMinty · 19/07/2023 15:38

When the wires came off I begged my sister to bring me in a Big Mac, and my stomach was so unused to food I managed just a 5th of it!

lucicle · 19/07/2023 15:43

(((Tric)))

Tricyrtis2022 · 19/07/2023 16:05

I hate tomato soup, but that actually sounds okay. After six weeks you must have been a bit fed up with it. Tragic about not being able to eat that Big Mac too! How long did it take before you could properly again?

There are tubs of soup in the freezer that I made last week, with peas, lentils, vegetables and beef stock, all whizzed up so they're nicely sippable. I'll be on that for a while.

MavisMcMinty · 19/07/2023 17:19

My cat’s whiskers are the cat’s whiskers.

And my dog’s… oh never mind.

Tricyrtis2022 · 19/07/2023 17:27

That's a very handsome cat, Mavis. Attractive background to the picture as well.

MavisMcMinty · 19/07/2023 17:29

That was on our dog’n’cat walk earlier! Took my iPad, was more scared than usual of tripping/slipping over.

BinturongsSmellOfPopcorn · 19/07/2023 18:22

Splendid whiskers.

((Tric)) that sounds deeply unpleasant. I hope the last bit of root pops out in Friday with no resistance whatsoever.

MavisMcMinty · 19/07/2023 18:59

They say cats’ whiskers are the width of their body so they can judge the narrowness of gaps before trying them out, so I assume Tashie’s are so magnificent and long because she’s long-haired? They’re so expressive, when she's looking at a packet of Dreamies all her whiskers curl forwards, pointing at them. Don’t notice Ava’s because all but one of her whiskers is black, and are comparatively short like her body hair.

artant · 19/07/2023 19:59

Oof, that sounds awful @Tricyrtis2022 hope the pain is kept at bay at least. I had two impacted wisdom teeth out years ago and both had to be broken up like that, it’s no fun at all.

artant · 19/07/2023 20:01

And those are some excellent cat’s whiskers @MavisMcMinty !

angelico53 · 19/07/2023 20:43

Sorry about the ideal, Tric! Blimey.

It does sound horrid and unnecessarily stressful. Back in the day when all four of mine were extracted for the same reason, the NHS was a kinder, less over-stretched service and there was no question of having it done conscious, in the local dentist's chair. They had professional hospital butchers for jobs like that! Hope the painkillers are kicking in, Tric.

Calico cats are the best in the world and Tashie is a whiskiferous stunner. ❤

artant · 19/07/2023 21:31

@Gonners I had the option of both teeth extracted under general anaesthetic or one after the other at my dentist with local anaesthetic. Thinking “how bad can it be?”, I opted to avoid the general anaesthetic. Week 1, extraction 1; week 2, stitches removed. Going back in week 3 for extraction 2 was hard! It also meant I looked like a chipmunk for a month!

MavisMcMinty · 19/07/2023 22:03

I had all 4 wisdom teeth removed in hospital under GA a month before starting my nurse training - they did it specially for me, soon to be “one of their own”. I used it as a learning experience - mainly that omnopon (no longer used as a pre-med) was bloody lovely. Swelling had just about gone by the time I started nursing.

BinturongsSmellOfPopcorn · 19/07/2023 22:31

I was offered wisdom teeth removal at 18, on the grounds they were hard to clean and bound to be troublesome later. I refused, and over 30 years on I've had no bother from them. I figure if something does go wrong they'll be easier to remove by then than they would have been when new and shiny.
