Continuation of previous threads (thread 7).

The new lair of JTT escapees is all cosy and homey; we have truly settled here. Outside, the garden is blooming with spring flowers. Inside, the hearth is glowing, pictures are up on the walls, rugs are down on the floors (and assorted pets curled up on them).

We just won’t mention the gnawed bones of our prey over there in the corner of the cave…

They’re useful when other teeth fall out.

Kucinghitam · 19/07/2023 23:37

Sorry to hear about @Tricyrtis2022's toothsome woes! Sounds completely awful!

OTOH I am in awe of @MavisMcMinty's cat's delightful whiskers. What a beauty she is.

No fluffy long-haired cats here, but I give you this cleverly camouflaged fellow.

Oh he's gorgeous and so is your beautifully whiskered girl, @MavisMcMinty .

Django should rightfully have virtually no whiskers given how skinny he is. I got out my phone to video him and Francis today, they were curled up together taking turns to lick each other and it was adorable. Francis got up to move toward the camera and that's when I realised I'd forgotten to press record. I was miffed.

I saw my surgical consultant today and he's lovely. I got a call from him when I got home telling me that he's spoken to a colleague in Guilford who can do a better more permanent operation and I'll be getting an appointment to see him. I'm hoping he will do it. The one offered here is less permanent and will involve me being bloated and farting all the time which I'll take, but it's hardly perfect.

MavisMcMinty · 19/07/2023 23:54

Oh excellent, Mouse! Isn’t the NHS great. In the US the surgeon would just want to keep your money for themself, here we get referred to the most capable one. I was referred to Europe’s top peripheral nerve surgeon (at the time) free of charge and without having to ask.

BinturongsSmellOfPopcorn · 20/07/2023 00:27

Fingers crossed for a permanent and non-farty solution, Mouse.

SinnerBoy · 20/07/2023 07:57

That sounds promising, Mouse. I hope that you get a good, permanent solution.

Tricyrtis2022 · 20/07/2023 08:05

That sounds hopeful, Mouse, I hope it works out well for you.

Tricyrtis2022 · 20/07/2023 08:13

I went to bed before 9pm last night and slept through till 5am. Mr Tric slept in another room to give me space, very sweet of him. My jaw is throbbing and hurts when I move it. When I go for the check up next week I'll be telling the dentist that I absolutely cannot go through something like that again, we'll have to find another way. Thinking back, it's hard to believe I lay there so meekly and just took it for an hour and a half. My only interventions were to ask for more anaesthetic and once to ask if there was much more to go. I did say to the dentist afterwards, with a wry smile, 'I can't believe I was conscious for such brutality and that I actually paid you for it'.

Going to have a very quiet few days of sofa time and books.

duc748 · 20/07/2023 10:35

Every good wish to you lovely people! Hope better days are ahead for you both.

MouseMinge · 20/07/2023 10:42

@Tricyrtis2022 I'm so rubbish! I read about your dentistry nightmare and then forgot to mention it in my "me, me, me!" post. It sounds awful. I've had difficult tooth removals but an hour and a half is hell on wheels. I'm glad Mr T is so caring and I hope your poor jaw is back to normal soon.

Tricyrtis2022 · 20/07/2023 11:42

@MouseMinge it wasn't a 'me, me, me!' post, it was something that was very important to you which happened to coincide with my tale of woe.

'Hell on wheels' sums it up well, it really was. Very glad Mr Tric is so caring - when I got back home yesterday, ashen-faced, he didn't ask any questions, but just held me in a big supportive hug for a while and gave me space to tell him in my own time.

CyanCrystalViolet · 20/07/2023 12:14

I’ve been unwell and then chained to my desk for the past week playing catch-up, so haven’t been able to keep up with the thread. Have I missed much? What is this about a @MouseMinge date?? Shock

Just dropping in a few K photos. One of his mitten, and one of him snoozing on his pillow.

Do you know whether you have stitches after the tooth extraction? I had a lot of throbbing pain after my wisdom teeth were removed (general anasthetic thank God, permanent hearing impairment afterwards, suspicion they used a lawnmower to do the deed) and didn't find out until the ten day 'check' that I had stitches - the pain immediately vanished once they were removed.

I'm feeling a mixture of guilt and relief that my recent extraction was so easy - I still felt shaken for a few days afterwards, the human body disapproves of bits being removed.

DeanElderberry · 20/07/2023 13:29

Kaspar is such a muffin.

Tricyrtis2022 · 20/07/2023 14:22

Cats always manage to look so comfortable when they sleep, don't they.

MavisMcMinty · 20/07/2023 14:27

They look comfortable whatever they’re doing and wherever they are. Cats are liquid covered in fur.

Another of our picnic (Dreamies) areas in the woods. There’s an awful lot of sitting when cat-walking.

Tricyrtis2022 · 20/07/2023 14:28

Elderberry, there were no stitches done. I haven't dared to look in my mouth or to deliberately put my tongue anywhere near where the tooth was, but I'm sure there aren't any. I asked the dentist to give me a running commentary of what she was doing, so there were no surprises, and she didn't mention stitches. I bled for a while afterwards too which suggests they weren't done.

How did you end up with impaired hearing from having teeth removed? I'm aware that the sinuses can be impacted by our teeth but didn't know that the same could happen with hearing, though I suppose all the bits are quite close together.

Tricyrtis2022 · 20/07/2023 14:29

What a lovely scene, Mavis. How lucky you all are to have that close.

artant · 20/07/2023 15:18

In my experience, you’d have noticed stitches happening on account of the needle and thread. They do tend to be soluble these days though so they’ve generally gone before you’re back at the dentist (at least, my last lot were).

artant · 20/07/2023 15:19

Kasper is beautiful.

angelico53 · 20/07/2023 15:50

A musical interlude. Lovely track by Reggae star Chronnix. First time I have heard the word "irie", which means, loosely, being in the groove of your life and happy not worried. Quite a liberated video with strong women.

I’ve spent the last two hours making a spag bol sauce - so therapeutic! - and it has everything in it. EVERYTHING! Now in the bottom of the Aga for as long as possible, will probably turn what we don’t eat tonight into lasagne for tomorrow. It’s just distraction therapy from tidying up the house for visitors on Sunday.

CyanCrystalViolet · 20/07/2023 18:08

At first glance I thought @MavisMcMinty’s picture was a lemur! So very graceful.

I’ve just got back from a proper country walk which I haven’t done in ages. Had to abandon the trail I planned as the path was overgrown with hog weed (pic 2) and I wouldn’t have been able to pass without touching it. Fortunately it didn’t take me too far off course. Not sure what happened to the peacock butterfly but it seemed happy enough.

That's just reminded me that I used to have a recipe for aubergine and porcini mushroom lasagne, but seem to have lost it. I suspect it was an American abomination, but ye gods, it was delicious!

Britinme · 20/07/2023 20:54

I like that reggae track, @angelico53 - thanks for that.

We are going out to eat this evening - one of our tenants in the rental property is Greek and we're taking him to a Greek pizza place we like. For some reason a lot of pizza places in this area are run by Greeks rather than Italians. This one has particularly good pizza though.
