Think it used to Ladbroke Grove or something

My husband and I still laugh at a friend of his who used to live in Kilburn but would say she lived in ‘West Hampstead borders’.

ShimmeringShirts · 07/06/2023 15:15

With the sheer amount of stuff in that house someone clearly has a hoarding problem

Polew · 07/06/2023 15:16

horseyhorsey17 · 07/06/2023 15:01

Yep would only make sense for short term lets. To oligarchs.

Can't imagine oligarchs setting up camp in a 4 bedder north kens. Terrace though unless theres a severe shortage of house in chelsea/knightsbridge/kensington itself🤔

We used to live in West Hampstead. Except it was really Cricklewood! Grin

Ylvamoon · 07/06/2023 15:18

Just one word: horrific.

Plus the huge bunny in picture 30 wtf??

IOweMySanityToBasilParsley · 07/06/2023 15:19

For 26k a month, I'd want Buckingham Palace 🤷🏻‍♀️

explainthistomeplease · 07/06/2023 15:20

Ooo those upside down umbrellas will just be fly and spider traps!

Lacucuracha · 07/06/2023 15:21

That house is a dusting nightmare.

I think it smacks of the books being for show, rather than for actual reading. If they were for reading or reference, they'd be grouped according to author or subject.

My books are, of course, impeccably organised. The most recently read are on top of the teetering pile by the side of my bed, the most recently purchased but not yet read are in a pile by the sofa.

The majority look to be travel books. I think theres a few 'coffee table' type lonely planet photography type books in there for good measure too.

There's a bunch of Bradt guides (The ones which are green with white tops are most identifible - though different editions are in different colours). They are a series of books for places which tend to be more off the beaten track than even lonely planet. I doubt a designer would pick those tbh - they are for a certain market, which Ben definitely would fit into.

There are LOADS of lonely planets - the navy blue tab with logo is easily identifible on some and theres the traditional all blue spine too. Given he was previously the picture editor at Tatler, lots of photo heavy travel books make sense too. Not necessarily for reading or reference regularly. The black shelf looks theres a lot likehas a lot of books with the black spine of Lonely Planet Photo books.

I think I spotted an SAS book in there too. And I think the majority of the white books are books about adventure / travel too (they have a certain look - I've got a bunch of books on the subject and they look different to my other books even from the spine.

And if they are all travel type books they ARE in some kind of order really anyway.

I don't have anywhere near as many travel guides as him, but I can spot them a mile off. (Nerd alert).

thesugarbumfairy · 07/06/2023 15:21

I like the green tiles on the bathroom floor.
Everything is is screaming at me and not in a nice way...

GreenPinkBlue · 07/06/2023 15:22

Astroturf?!?

AIBUpossibly · 07/06/2023 15:22

I was at Portsmouth Poly, knew him through the drama society. He had that public school confidence and arrogance but was certainly a bit thick/slow and not very good!
He was so pushy at castings. I often don't believe him talking about his 'accidental' celebrity, and it looks like he bought his interior clutter rather than genuinely accumulating it.

StoneColdAlibi · 07/06/2023 15:11

Seconded, speaking as someone who had both her babies at Hammersmith Hospital 🤗

Technically, the postcode for the scrubs is W12 and his house is in W10, so estate agent talk or not, it's North Ken in that you're in RBKC, albeit just barely.

@museumum

North Kensington does not 'sound posh' it's where Grenfell tower is. I used to work for an organisation that dealt with poverty and exclusion and North Kensignton was a target area.

Yes, this is very true, but like most London neighbourhoods, that poverty and exclusion sits side by side with enormous wealth and privilege - i.e. World's End in Chelsea.

@Moonandstarz

Dunno, but the kids are still at (day) school in London at the moment.

IanFromAccounting · 07/06/2023 15:25

It’s very much my style (apart from the tiny artificial garden) but fuck me the price!!

Highandlows · 07/06/2023 15:25

I know quite a few posh families in that area. Houses are gorgeous and quite desirable. I would say celebrities and people who do not to show status like new rich if you see what I mean. However, this house is a horror for me.

Rental prices are mad because there is a shortage of houses. Many people waiting for the property market to crash. Hope they do not run out of money waiting LOL.

StoneColdAlibi · 07/06/2023 15:25

I don't live in the area anymore, but there used to be a big traveller settlement nearby, anyone know if it's still there?

RedToothBrush · 07/06/2023 15:26

Moonandstarz · 07/06/2023 15:11

Article refers to AstroTurf lawn, surprised at Ben, thought he would have preferred natural

Man who travels and is away from home a lot doesn't need grass. Grass is hard to maintain without looking messy quickly. It would require a gardener. Whats more surprising is the number of planets in the house - though they could be fake and they look tropical so probably don't need watering too much. Obviously another task for the cleaner on top of dusting umbrellas.

LindorDoubleChoc · 07/06/2023 15:26

I'm astonished at the price. It's a slightly larger than average (because of loft conversion) but not gigantic by any means mid terrace London house with a horrible steel bath and plastic grass and nasty blue tiles one the fireplaces. Whoever is happy to pay £26,000 pcm for that needs their bumps felt.

Polew · 07/06/2023 15:27

denim1700 · 07/06/2023 15:05

It's basic. The books sorted by colour, the kitchen letter sign, midcentury furniture, fake distress/'shabby chic', vtg Brit look mixed with exploration/colonial vibe, clashing colours & prints, vtg British product shop signs, bunting but with a twist, vtg tourism posters and maps, hobbies as decor (was that skis?), model boats, mr and mrs sinks... could go on. Surprised there's no "X place is always a good idea" sign.

There are probably more clichés but it was too horrible to look at. Shocked by the artificial grass! There's a way to artfully clash and that's not it. Clocked the few photos of family anywhere but framed dog pics and shit art are in abundance. That always makes me automatically side eye a person. 😆I know that's ridiculous!

Thought it was just me that noticed 'nothing' had been taken down/declutterd & yet very few artifects relating to their wedding/kids/families outside of a few pictures jumbled in

even in media based at home with Ben fogle sort of articles ... everythinj's just travel/market finds/art works/knick knacks can't work out if it's just highly stylised & had been since they bought it or if it ties in with the whole 'perfectly imperfect' personal lives as ive often read of their struggles (marriage Mot's/fertility/long distance relationship problems) & that's reflected in their intense desire to spend time together but not display things that might hurt them/each other day to day wise - its very sort of middle of the road on that front

The big picture of the dog (Inca?) & the children's bedrooms Is the only real sense of family or love in this place everything else is just a bit.... excessive

Didn't know that. That's such a posh person's post-uni job.

Seeleyboo · 07/06/2023 15:07

One word. Dusting

Same thing I think when I look at pics of open kitchen shelves full of jars and whatnot.

EmpressSoleil · 07/06/2023 15:29

At least it's not a drab grey soulless box like so many on RM.

I live in a London terrace. I had a proper gardener come and sort my garden and he said grass would not grow there. There are thick weeds coming from the other gardens, they go through the earth and don't care about fences! Plus theres a big tree shading the area grass would be (the rest is patio). So on his advice I got fake grass. Wouldn't be my number one choice either but sometimes its all you can do.

NeedToChangeName · 07/06/2023 15:30

I like that they have a big kitchen table for entertaining

The rest, not to my taste. And umbrellas in the kitchen are weird, unless the glass roof leaks
