My dolls were all Sindy and her horses, but we majorly coveted Barbie's 3 story house. It was just another reason for us to hate Barbie.
( me and the Sindys that is....)

Sindy had her own townhouse, it was better than Barbie's.

wildfirewonder · 06/06/2023 07:12

My wanted toy was a Mr Frosty.

orangeblosssom · 06/06/2023 07:12

A porcelain doll and a wooden dolls house

Muncha · 06/06/2023 07:12

I had a Mr Frosty. It was shit and so was the syrup penguin that it came with.

Wobblybobble · 06/06/2023 07:13

Easy bake oven!

EnjoyingTheSilence · 06/06/2023 07:14

Another Mr Frosty. Marketing at its best!

RueWasBrave · 06/06/2023 07:15

Play dough mop too hair shop, screwball scramble, operation, hungry hippos. I bought all of them for my DC and played with them lots. All worth the wait! And arguably better as an adult, the play dough was impossible for small hands to use the extruders and screwball scramble is super hard for little ones. My son usually beats me at hungry hippos though.

Jemandthehologramsunite · 06/06/2023 07:18

Wow. I had a Mr Frosty. What I really wanted was a Cabbage Patch Doll

My Little Pony castle, the one that came with the unicorn with a blue mane. My best friend had it and I loved to play with it.

Never got the castle but I bought the unicorn on eBay when I was about 22 - buying cheap vintage ones, cleaning them up and selling on was a bit of a thing for a while. It sat on my bookcase for a while before going on to a charity shop!

The pony was called Majesty!
I had the castle, it was pretty cool.
I've actually ordered myself one of the 40 year anniversary reissue ponies. The first one I got aged 3. I'm really excitedly, I actually remember unwrapping it 🥰

Tessisme · 06/06/2023 07:22

It was a Girl's World for me too. I would have been a terrible hairdresser and beautician anyway, going by my current unkempt appearance🤣

I also wanted a skateboard, but can't remember why I didn't get one.

Allblackeverythingalways · 06/06/2023 07:23

Also, I finally got Mr frosty for my 40th.
Apologies For the pestering Mum, it really was shit 🤣
Made some weird icey wine drinks in the pub though 🤣

pornyshroudofturin · 06/06/2023 07:23

Teddy Ruxpin- a bear that you put tapes into and it read stories. Was desperate for one and spent hours gazing longingly at them in the local toy shop.

And an A La Carte kitchen. I got the Petite Office set that Christmas instead. I still bear a grudge against Father Christmas for that- I could have had a career as a chef rather than a boring office job if only he’d chosen the kitchen….

WideDyedAndLegless · 06/06/2023 07:24

Action Man.
I had several Sindy and Pippa dolls but always wanted an Action Man.
It wasn't the doll so much as the accessories.

BreezySunnyDay · 06/06/2023 07:29

Katie Kopycat, anyone remember that? 😂
I was probably about 3 and believed that it would literally just copy whatever I did 😂 I would have been hugely disappointed by the reality!

What was the toy you always wished you could have as a child?
Spaceman101 · 06/06/2023 07:30

I always wanted this kitchen. I can still remember the advert where the girl made her dad baked beans.

SleepyMathematician · 06/06/2023 07:32

Mr Frosty here too! Have never had one but repeatedly read as an adult they are shit.

I was also desperate for one of those Cadburys chocolate mini vending machines but never got one. I think in my head I had it imagined as some amount of huge endless chocolate instead of something tiny I’d have eaten the lot of on Christmas Day.

I also nagged for action man but got instead action girl (not very forward thinking mum who disapproved of girls having boys toys). Action girl was annoying as she didn’t have the posable limbs so there wasn’t much action about her and her boobs got in the way. I wasn’t allowed meccano or a garage, despite much nagging, for the same reason.

I did have a Girl’s World, though, which I loved. And a toy post office which was great. So it wasn’t all bad.

Apricotton · 06/06/2023 07:32

Mr Frosty. I still jokingly ask my mum for it every year at Christmas.

Spaceman101- my friend had that kitchen and I thought it was the most amazing toy ever.

inappropriateraspberry · 06/06/2023 07:33

Mr Frosty as well!
I had the A La Carte Kitchen, My Little Pony Castle and Sylvanian Families. The castle also came with Spike the dragon who you could wind up in a little basket.
My older sister had a Barbie house with the loft that I was allowed to play with sometimes!
I never wanted Playdoh, but did love Plasticine.

Roselilly36 · 06/06/2023 07:33

Oh yes, I wanted a Mr Frosty, never got one I also wanted a Cabbage Patch Doll, never got one of them either!

KohlaParasaurus · 06/06/2023 07:34

A 3D printer, in the early 1970s. My friend and I played a game that included drawing things we wanted and putting the drawing into a "manufacturer" which made them into the real (imaginary) working version.
A Raleigh Chopper. Wasn't allowed. Stupid looking things, and my mum said millions of children were dying from falling between the handlebars, being unable to expand their chest to breathe, and suffocating.
All of the Pippa doll merchandise.

jem and the holograms earrings GIF

A Jem doll with 'real, working, flashing earrings'!

Shintyhappypeople · 06/06/2023 07:36

The big red fun bus.

Mr Frosty for me!

Same - I asked for one for years, Mum told me they are rubbish (we got plenty of gifts, just carefully selected). Daughter asked for one - so she got one, Mum was right it is rubbish but currently has pride of place on the dining table and DD loves it.

My sister asked for an Action Man one Christmas! He made a good addition to the available cast of Sindys and Pippas for lots of dramatic games 😊

ItsClemFandangoCanYouHearMe1 · 06/06/2023 07:41

I got a sky dancer when they were really big. Xmas morning I pulled the string and it flew straight into my mums glass chandelier.

Removed and never seen again. I've never gotten over it 😂

Also mr frosty, I can still recite the jingle from the ads.
