What obscure tv shows do you remember watching, but no one else really watched or remembers it so you feel alone?

Soubriquet · 04/06/2023 15:47

I have a few. I used to love watching certain shows but no one I knew watched it. So it felt like I was the only one at times.

Hex
Dollhouse
Dark Angel
Roswell (the original not the newer one)
Firefly

Going round the twist! Who remembers that?

Yes! I can still hear the theme tune 💈

FlappyFish · 04/06/2023 16:50

The Dream Stone. Early 90’s on CITV. Music by Mike Batt. Better than a dream was the best theme song ever. (Closely followed by the Raccoons Run with us!)

I loved the dreamstone

BreakfastClubs · 04/06/2023 17:52

The Littlest Hobo was Canadian - I didn't think it played over here!

It did and now I'm remembering the theme tune and feeling sad.

BreakfastClubs · 04/06/2023 17:52

The Dreamstone was amazing.

Yes the Raccoons, can you remember what the baddie was called?

Cyril Sneer and he had a son called Cedric?

10/10 👍

poppetandmog · 04/06/2023 17:52

Does anyone remember the 'trouble' tv channel? I absolutely loved this in the late nineties. I remember coming home from school and watching hang time, California dreams and a few others I can't remember the name of!

MagicClawHasNoChildren · 04/06/2023 17:39

God, the Devil, and Bob. Loved it. I think it was on BBC2, late one weekday evening. Nobody else seems to have ever heard of it.

And some hospital sitcom with Ade Edmondson in it. Even I can't remember its name, and I (unlike basically everyone else) quite liked it.

Ade Edmonson one was Doctors and Nurses but he also played a Dr in Ho;by

BreakfastClubs · 04/06/2023 17:53

This is a really obscure one. Does anyone remember Dooby Duck's Disco Bus?

The Secret Life of Us. Was Australian, late 90s/early 2000s.

I loved this show! It had Darren from Neighbours in one of the lead roles IIRC. My housemates at the time (early 2000s) and I were obsessed with it and used to gather round the TV religiously to watch it. A few years later I went on holiday to Australia and was so excited that I’d finally have the chance to buy the DVDs of it. Couldn’t find them anywhere. Eventually asked in a shop and they actually laughed in my face!

I did eventually find them on eBay like 10 years later and tried watching it again but couldn’t stand all the silly 20-something angst and the dated Sex and the City style voiceover musings but that’s just me being a grumpy old woman now.

Mapp and Lucia in the 1980s. I actually didn't like it much, except for Geraldine McEwan's delicious impression of a Morningside accent. It has been called 'wonderfully camp' which is what tried my patience. I watched the episodes with a kind of grim fascination, I thought at the time. And now I miss it. I don't know anyone who ever watched it or who has heard of EF Benson. I do see today that lots of the episodes are on Youtube, so...

Oh we adored it in our house. My mum and dad have religiously watched it again and again each summer. He died last year, I’m not sure mum will watch it again :(

I have the whole of Due South on Plex!

To whoever mentioned 'The Henderson Kids' I'm forever in your debt - I've been tracking this down for decades!

Okay, who remembers 'The Littlest Hobo'? I'm guessing only Antipodeans.

Follyfoot Farm, anybody? What about The Famous Five?

The littlest Hobo.was shown during every schoo! Holiday (or at least it felt like it)/during the 80,s in the UK I .still remember the words to the theme tune!

MadameKali · 04/06/2023 17:57

@FlamingoQueen so pleased to see a couple of people mentioning Maelstrom. Only one person I've ever talked to about remembers it. I had to get it on DVD to prove to myself I hadn't imagined it.
A remake would be amazing

@00100001 my science teacher had a poster of the Mountie on the door to the prep room!

Nice!

eleanorwish · 04/06/2023 17:58

I remember Mad Death, scared the shit out of me as a 12 year old.
Other shows I remember areThe Ghosts of Motley Hall, Dick Turpin and Robin of Sherwood

SomethingNastyInTheGenePool · 04/06/2023 18:00

Astercote - a time-slip/ghost story children’s series based on a Penelope Lively book. Scared the bejaysus out of me, as did the book.

TrashyPanda · 04/06/2023 18:00

Topogigio

Calamero

the White Horses (best theme tune ever)

Junior Showtime

Why Don’t You…

(the last two were dire)

the BBC showed a Robinson Crusoe Tv series every summer (it started with a shot of the sea lapping at shore). Only they timed it for the English School Holidays, so we in Scotland never saw the end. For all I know, he’s still on that bloody island. Ironic, given the inspiration was Alexander Selkirk, who was Scottish.

*"Come Back Lucy" there was a ghost (Lucy) that the children in the house could see

"The Peppermint Pig" - cannot find a whiff of it on search and no-one else remembers it*

I remember both of these,@70isaLimitNotaTarget . Can actually picture Peppermint Pig but only remember the story because I later read the book.

The intro to Peppermint Pig had a little clockwork toy of a butcher with two knives chopping on a block and the piggie jigging about beside him.

I can still do the theme tune in my head Grin

There was a programme called TV 101 set in an American high school in the 1990s. One of the characters was played by a very young Matt Le Blanc. I've never met anyone else who watched it but I loved it - there were two characters Vance and Penny who were a couple at the end who I thought were amazing.

Ooh I loved TV101. I'm mostly reading this thread thinking i watched a lot of obscure tv because I remember loads of these shows 😂

Gideon is another one from the 80s, it was about a duck. I don't remember much about it except that it was sad.

AlwaysGinPlease · 04/06/2023 18:02

Z for Zachariah- watched at school and was very weird

A program about stolen peregrine falcon eggs and little kids trying to solve it

A program about a man from space but no idea of the title

Chocky - loved it but was terrified

The Phoenix from the flames, magic carpet and maybe Victorian children

Littlest Hobo - cried every episode

The Enchanted Castle, one episode an audience of clothes called the fugly wuglies that came to life

So many more 😊 always was a tv addict

x2boys · 04/06/2023 18:02

Nanny with Wendy Craig ,me and my friend were obsessed with it .

Soubriquet · 04/06/2023 18:03
