What obscure tv shows do you remember watching, but no one else really watched or remembers it so you feel alone?

I have a few. I used to love watching certain shows but no one I knew watched it. So it felt like I was the only one at times.

Hex
Dollhouse
Dark Angel
Roswell (the original not the newer one)
Firefly

Some of my favourites from the 80s:

V (aliens)
North and South (American Civil War with Patrick Swayze)
Tenko (women's POW camp)

Loved all of them.

By The Sword Divided ?

Does anyone remember “Seaside Special” on Saturday nights through the summer? It was a variety show that was set in seaside towns with ‘star’ acts. I loved it as a tweenager but think it would be cringey now!

My kind of thread! I'd forgotten Press Gang and Super Gran but yes yes to those.
My ultimate childhood favourites were:

  1. Cities (or city) of Gold - great theme tune
  2. Dogtanion
  3. Around the world in 80 days - another great theme tune
  4. Gummi Bears (I could do with some gummy berry juice now)
  5. and I used to get up v early to watch the Care Bears

Miles from This Life. If only I'd had some therapy earlier to work out why the fuck I was so drawn to him rather than lovely Egg

I hated it as a teenager (because I was into punk and then metal, and couldn't admit to liking fluff like this), but suspect I would like it now as long as Ant & Dec (or Michael Macintyre) weren't anywhere near it.

FatOaf · 06/06/2023 17:29

Does anyone remember Tinga and Tucker?

The koalas with the boomerang? Yes.

I remember Pinky and Perky, I had an album of theirs, also remember Noggin the Nog.

There were loads of Pink & Perky records around, but you could get the same effect by just playing a 33 rpm LP at 45 rpm.

Noggin the Nog was one of the Oliver Postgate programmes. My favourite was Pogle's Wood, but I also liked Ivor the Engine and Bagpuss (I do a good Professor Yaffle impression).

@Dontlistitonfacebook

I LOVED Blake's Seven!

Also Garth Marenghi.

The thing I love which no- one has ever watched is Phoneshop.

Phone shop was absolutely cracking! Fantastic acting and I think a lot of improv. I wished it had lasted longer but looking back I think it ended on a high before they started trying to think of sillier and sillier plots outside the shop.

I don't remember actually watching this but I do remember ads for a Geordie daytime soap in the late 90s (maybe early 2000s) called Tynesiders. A girl with a super strong accent saying 'and I don't watch eastenders!' in the ad. Nobody else recalls it. Was it a dream?!

Ilovetea33 · 06/06/2023 17:43

There was no girl in Belle and Sebastian, Belle was the dog and Sebastian the boy. The band is from Glasgow and still going strong, I see they're touring near me.

WiseUpJanetWeiss · 06/06/2023 17:47

Cherrysoup · 06/06/2023 15:53

Bella and Sebastian in b/w, really old 45 years ago. About a girl and a dog. There's a band called that now, been around for a while.

I think you may be mixing up Crystal Tips and Alistair (girl and dog) with Belle and Sebastian?

ThreeRingCircus · 06/06/2023 17:50

A cartoon in the 90s, The Pirates of Darkwater. I clearly remember watching this with my brother but he is adamant he's never seen it.

No. Bella and Sebastian was a b/w series a gazillion years ago. Possibly foreign with dubbing? Wikipedia says the band is named after the television adaptation of the French novel Belle and Sebastien, about a 6 year old boy and his Great Pyrenees dog. OK, a boy, not a girl! My memory from approximately 45 years ago is fuzzy! It was a novel and was filmed as a live action TV series in 1965 (I was watching a repeat!)

Crystal Tips, never seen it but apparently my hair is identical to hers, pictures show this to be reasonably true, but mine is not purple. People used to call me Crystal Tips.

JaneJeffer · 06/06/2023 18:04

Did anyone watch Attachments in the early noughties? I couldn't remember the name and had to google. Was surprised to see David Walliams was in it!

Ah right. There was an early 80s programme called Belle and Sebastian. Same premise as your film though I think.

I too have Crystal Tips hair, and it’s in danger of being purple, what with the purple shampoo for the grey of locks. 🤣

Apparently they re-launched it once or twice. The original was shown several times on children’s tv. Bit out there, filming it live action back in the day!

The front of mine is starting to go grey, I can disguise it with strategic placement of curls currently. 😱

Blake's Seven
Mapp & Lucia
Robot Wars
The Dome
How
Catweazle

Jaxhog · 06/06/2023 18:11

Jaxhog · 06/06/2023 18:14

How could I forget:
Noggin the Nog
Pogle's Wood
Captain Pugwash
Ivor the Engine (I still do a cracking engine noise)
Andy Pandy
Flower Pot men

GloriousD · 06/06/2023 18:18

Anyone remember early 80s drama about older teenagers / young adults dating? It was either called Venus in Blue Jeans or that was the title music. It would have been on the evenings?

EllaPaella · 06/06/2023 18:25

I remember watching a programme around 20 years ago that was about a load of students/teenagers in Brighton and it involved taking a lot of drugs and a murder. Can't remember what it was called but I loved it.

Also remember a kids show in the 80's, i'm sure it was on CBBC and was about a fairground. Again all mysterious. It had a girl in it with very long dark hair, I think she read crystal balls or something and I wanted to be her! Would love to remember what that was called.

Inspired by this thread, I’ve bought the book!

Puddlelane123 · 06/06/2023 18:52

@EllaPaella was that Kizzy?? Didnt she live in a Gypsy Caravan?

EllaPaella · 06/06/2023 19:11

Ooh yes @Puddlelane123 thank you!! I've been trying to remember that for the last 30 years and no-one could ever tell me 😁
