What obscure tv shows do you remember watching, but no one else really watched or remembers it so you feel alone?

I have a few. I used to love watching certain shows but no one I knew watched it. So it felt like I was the only one at times.

Hex
Dollhouse
Dark Angel
Roswell (the original not the newer one)
Firefly

This life starting a young Andrew Lincoln and Jack Davenport, absolutely cracking series about a group.of young lawyers living together ,for some reason I think.it was originally shown on Bbc2 ?I think it had a cult following mid 90,s ,they did This life 10 years+ as a one off too show where they all.were .

Loved this life!

ZittiEBuoni · 06/06/2023 07:47

I remember A Break In The Sun really vividly as it struck a chord with me - having just moved to a different area and missing my old home so badly - and I bought the book.

She moves from her beloved home town of Margate after her parents split and goes to London with mum and stepdad. Stepdad is a horrible bully so she runs away back to Margate on this barge with this random couple. Final scene, which choked me up, is her on a fairground ride seeing the police turn up to take her back to London.

In retrospect, something very fishy about the barge couple...

GalileoHumpkins · 06/06/2023 08:26

Does anyone remember The Dark Side of the Sun with Peter Egan?

Loved this programme. It was shown on tv a few months back and i have it recorded. I haven’t watched it yet as incase it’s not as good as I remember, and I was in my twenties then.

MrsRachelDanvers · 06/06/2023 09:27

A lot of these weren’t obscure at the time! Bouquet of Barbed Wire was talked about a lot! All the men had a crush on Susan Penhaligon. I also remember watching Thriller on ITV-think it was a Saturday evening I think the opening credits had a distorted image though a lens? Because there were so few channels, people tended to watch the same things so anything on in the evening was quite popular and discussed the next day. These days with literally hundreds of choices, there really are obscure shows hardly anyone else you know watches.

MarkWithaC · 06/06/2023 09:36

I loved Round the Twist and The Secret Life of Us. In the latter, didn't they live in a loft or somewhere they had to enter by climbing up a ladder?

And a cartoon called Undercover Elephant, which was exactly that: an elephant who solved crimes/mysteries by going undercover. People shake their heads and back away slowly when I ask if they r
emember it Grin

TattyOne · 06/06/2023 09:37

This Life would have been repeated on the BBC, as a BBC show, but not on IPlayer now. You can watch it on ITVX Premium if you subscribe? If you don't want to long term, just do a month and binge.

I rewatched it last year on Britbox, which has now been absorbed into ITVX (Premium). Still very enjoyable, with a young Andrew Lincoln and Jack Davenport. Yes, a large group of young lawyers all sharing one property (and one bathroom!) like students. It was set in London though I suppose.

ClaribelLowLieth · 06/06/2023 11:13

I'm not sure if its been mentioned but Night and Day? It had a weird and tense vibe but I don't really remember what it was about

I remember this too, but had forgotten the name. I remember the stepfather seemed really scary. I didn't realise it was by Bernard Ashley - I used to teach in SE London, he was a local celebrity with a road named after him!

NooNakedJacuzziness · 06/06/2023 12:33

I remember Undercover Elephant @MarkWithaC. I think he used to blow his cover if offered a peanut as he got over excited!

Over 800 posts in, and I will suggest "Middlemen" - a completely surreal sitcom (hints of "A Very Peculiar Practice"). Never repeated and no one - even my age and older - remembers it from around 1977 ?

Also 1990 - dystopian series from the 1970s that had Edward Woodward dodging a load of 2CVs as I recall.

Very obscure ones from the 60s and 70s and which haven’t been mentioned so far

BizzyLizzie. A little girl who could touch the flower on her dress and make a wish, but if she wished for more than 3 things a day everything would disappear. She did this every single time and even aged around 4 I used to think FFS Lizzie, how hard can it be?

Johnny Quest animated adventure series

Get Smart - secret agent Maxwell Smart and his sidekick 99 who was a shop mannequin who came to life.

Two series called The Voyage of the Triton and The Voyage of the Pegasus, adventures set in the 19th century one on a submarine and one in a hot air balloon.

The Battle of St George Without - I think it was about a group of children trying to save a church from being demolished. That one may not stand up to a remake!

Joe - animated cartoon about a very small boy who was apparently allowed to roam freely with no adult supervision

Pinky and Perky - pig puppets with annoying voices. I had a record of them singing the theme to White Horses!

Noggin the Nog - made by Oliver Postgate and the Bagpuss team

Barrier Reef - Aussie adventure

Arthur of the Britons - majorly hot Oliver Tobias as Arthur.

Beryl’s Lot - afternoon light drama about a bunch of middle aged neighbours.

Lovely to see old favourites mentioned, particularly Daktari, Pogles Wood, Rag tag and Bobtail, the Cedar Tree and Robinson Crusoe and the Singing Ringing Tree and Ace of Wands.

Double Deckers had Peter Firth in it!

IClaudine · 06/06/2023 15:46

Afterlife which starred Andrew Lincoln from This Life and Lesley Sharp.

Pemba · 06/06/2023 15:53

I remember that Afterlife! (not the more recent Ricky Gervais one). I loved it, got the box set.

Cherrysoup · 06/06/2023 15:53

Bella and Sebastian in b/w, really old 45 years ago. About a girl and a dog. There's a band called that now, been around for a while.

Pemba · 06/06/2023 15:55

Why do tv and film producers often reuse the same title, even if the first show/film was only a few years ago? Leads to confusion.

NooNakedJacuzziness · 06/06/2023 15:56

Just remembered Tales from Fat Tulip's Garden with Tony Robinson - that was hilarious. Had characters Lewis Collins the tortoise and Peter, Paul and Mary (frogs) and Fred the Baddie. You never saw anyone apart from Tony telling the story but he made it so funny.

JimnJoyce · 06/06/2023 16:10

I remember Pinky and Perky, I had an album of theirs, also remember Noggin the Nog.
Does anyone remember Tinga and Tucker?

JimnJoyce · 06/06/2023 16:11

Cloudburst anyone? I think we watched it at school.

HoldingTheDoor · 06/06/2023 16:14

Mortimer and Arabel.

tommyshelbysbunnit · 06/06/2023 16:17

Mortimer and Arabel.

I was obsessed with that when I was about 7 years old.
