What obscure tv shows do you remember watching, but no one else really watched or remembers it so you feel alone?

I have a few. I used to love watching certain shows but no one I knew watched it. So it felt like I was the only one at times.

Hex
Dollhouse
Dark Angel
Roswell (the original not the newer one)
Firefly

I have skim read the thread and haven't seen these mentioned but apologies if I missed it.

1 - Barnaby the Bear - from the 70s when I was very small. I think it was French and dubbed. I have never met anyone else who remembers or has heard of it. I have a very strong memory of it. Picture below.

2 - The Red Hand Gang

Barnaby the bears my name,
Never call me Jack or James.

Does anyone remember a comedy from the early 90s about a ghost of an old Jewish woman?

I remember lots of these but I am old so 🤷🏻‍♀️

Does anyone remember Murder Most Horrid? I was convinced it was French and Saunders but just done a Google search and apparently it was only ever Dawn French.

Also Eerie Indiana. I had a huge teenage crush on omri katz (sp?) I wonder what happened to him (off to Google again)

I do! I think it was called So Haunt Me.

I do. I mentioned it earlier and another poster or two remembered it also. I haven't seen it for a long time though and wonder if it lives up to the memories?

Speaking of French Saunders, did anyone else remember Let Them Eat Cake which was set during the French Revolution?

Aww that's it. I couldn't remember the name but remembered she died choking on a bone. Away to find it on YouTube!

Sorry I must have missed that. Yeah I would like to have another watch. I remember the theme song vividly.

I don't remember Let Them Eat Cake but funnily enough I was reading about it just yesterday! Apparently it was based on a F&S sketch which was a parody of Dangerous Liasons.

That's interesting. I didn't know that ty. I'll have to go find the sketch now to compare.

I came to post this when I saw the thread title. Hardly anyone seems to have watched it!

It was so scary, I could never watch it when it was on in the middle of the night! Had to tape it and watch it the next day! Totally gripping. Can't believe it wasn't more popular. I wonder if the format would even work now

Barnaby the bears my name,
Never call me Jack or James.

i will sing my way to fame
’Cos Barnaby the Bear’s My Name.
Birds taught me to fly
In the sky so high so high so high so high so high
SO first they took me to their king
Then they taught me how to sing

WhatWouldHopperDo · 05/06/2023 21:43

So glad some people remember Barnaby!!

Remember Barnaby the Bear very well.

There was a short drama on kids TV called "A Break in the Sun" that has stuck with me for some reason.

On the adult side, and more recently, an amazing series about 2000ish called Holding On, with Phil Daniels as a bulimic restaurant critic called Billy Ricky, and a very very dark comedy drama about 2003 called Funland. Two of the best bit of TV I've seen.

Loved a break in the sun - it was edgy drama. Loved Nicola Cowper also in

Interesting that others remember Break in the Sun as edgy or being vaguely traumatised. I don't really remember much about it but that's the same feeling I have. I think it was a young girl who ran away with a couple, maybe to do with seasides or holidays. I remember feeling something was very wrong about it, that an adult couple should have this interest in a young girl. I wasn't old enough to read anything more into it (and I can't imagine any subtext that adult would have been there) but it still gives me an uneasy feeling.

Also I only realised a year or so ago (yes it really has been at the back of my mind since I was a kid) that the title A Break in the Sun meant a holiday break. I don't think I knew that phrase when I saw the show and I understood it as a fracture break. A Fracture in the Sun. Seemed to fit the adrupt life change of running away... but definitely added to the uneasyness

Oooo I've got chills thinking about it!

This has been a wonderful trip down memory lane - great thread OP!

Loved so many of these - Bug Juice being a particular favourite.

Anyone remember Pugwall ( and the Orange Organics?) Or Potsworth and Company?

Puddlelane123 · 06/06/2023 02:42

Sharky and George! Yes! Loved it - I feel like it used to be on stupidly early in the morning and was followed not long after (on Channel 4) by Betty’s Bunch.

And another one who remembers Rude Dog and the Dweebs. Loved the visuals.

Think someone mentioned Neverware? Was a really random dystopian drama on BBC 2. Used to stay up and watch it whilst waiting for the xfiles to come on.

marthasmum · 06/06/2023 06:38

oopourusacup yes I think I felt the same about the title of Break in the Sun! How funny. I think it was ahead of its time. Interesting looking back how many of these shows were based on children’s books (or maybe I was just a swotty child who read the books too!) It doesn’t feel like that’s the same now for kids tv?

LaMaG · 06/06/2023 06:39

Anyone remember an American show in 90s called Home front or homecoming? US soldiers returning home after WWII, 1 had a Jewish bride. I remember they were all gorgeous and the theme song was that old one .."you gotta accentuate the positive... don't mess with Mr in-between.."

x2boys · 06/06/2023 07:38

This life starting a young Andrew Lincoln and Jack Davenport, absolutely cracking series about a group.of young lawyers living together ,for some reason I think.it was originally shown on Bbc2 ?I think it had a cult following mid 90,s ,they did This life 10 years+ as a one off too show where they all.were .
