What obscure tv shows do you remember watching, but no one else really watched or remembers it so you feel alone?

I have a few. I used to love watching certain shows but no one I knew watched it. So it felt like I was the only one at times.

Hex
Dollhouse
Dark Angel
Roswell (the original not the newer one)
Firefly

Remember Barnaby the Bear very well.

There was a short drama on kids TV called "A Break in the Sun" that has stuck with me for some reason.

On the adult side, and more recently, an amazing series about 2000ish called Holding On, with Phil Daniels as a bulimic restaurant critic called Billy Ricky, and a very very dark comedy drama about 2003 called Funland. Two of the best bit of TV I've seen.

Early 90s ITV kids drama The Lodge, set in a children's home. Never gets a mention.

Dark Skies - one of the many x files inspired ufo series of the late 90s

Millennium - the first series was brilliant.

I remember The Lodge! It was some of the same crew that did Press Gang (massive fan). It was really good.

Dobbyatemysocks · 05/06/2023 14:41

Programs as a kid:
Starfleet
G-force
Ivor the engine
Godzilla (with godzuki)

As an adult:
Rockcliffes babies
Murder one - Stanley tucci is brilliant in it!!
Widows 1 & 2 - no one believes me when I say the recent film was based on this.
And there was a drama set in Australia called return to edan where the wife was pushed into a lake filled with crocodiles. She returned as herself as a model.

Supergran!! A Scottish granny with super powers. I can still sing the theme tune in my head

Thanks, that's an earworm now.

Also, 'Why Don't You'? That was great.

And I remember Mulberry very well.

Eurotrash, obviously. Although I would think that lots of people watched that, as once you started, you were sucked in (possibly not a metaphor for some episodes). Loved the dubbing.

Ormally · 05/06/2023 14:48

Ooh, and 'Six Feet Under'. Got the box set for that but it was on TV at the same time as something quite similar and was the more circumspect of the two. Recommended, if it sounds like it might appeal.

Soubriquet · 05/06/2023 14:59

Anyone watch Dead Like Me?

I started to watch it again on Amazon cos I really enjoyed it when I was younger. Yeah it’s not as good as an older person

Maelstrom, still terrifies me.

I'm sure there was a program where alien species abducted humans and put metal caps on their heads. The aliens were on tripods (was that its name?).

I remember both Maelstrom and The Tripods! The Tripods put a kind of metal triangle on the heads of humans to control them. I think it was a Saturday or Sunday early evening program.

coolmum123 · 05/06/2023 15:03

I think I watched too much telly when I was young! I remember quite a few if these. Havnt read the full thread but here's what I watched in my yoof

Manimal
Street Hawk
Blue thunder
Thorn birds
Return to Eden
Mr Ben
Godzilla and Godzuki
Cover Up
The Sullivan's
Rhubarb
Monkey
Famous Five
He-Man
Murder one
LA Law
Rupert the Bear
Rentaghost
Runaround
Crackerjack

quirkychick · 05/06/2023 15:14

@coolmum123 I think we must be a similar age! Kids programs were on at set times, so I think most of us with a TV at home would have watched similar.

A kids’ TV programme in the late 80s starring Bill Odie called The Bubblegum Brigade.

Also, from school in the 80s: Dark Towers (scary), The Boy From Space (scarier) and Badgergirl. I’ve not met anyone for years who remember them (although, tbf, they’re unlikely to come up in conversation!).

Ooh I loved Dark Towers

Bookist · 05/06/2023 15:43

Anyone remember Gems, early eighties, set in a fashion design studio in Covent Garden? It used to be on ITV around 4.30pm week day afternoons. Absolutely loved it, loved the clothes especially.

OooPourUsACupLove · 05/06/2023 15:47

There was an early 80s comedy show on BBC2 after kids TV on BBC1 called Dear Heart about a teenage magazine... I thought it was really grown up but looking back was probably aimed at 12 to 14 year olds! It had a really catchy tune ..... "I am falling falling falling apart Dear Heart" and then 80s synth 😍
