What obscure tv shows do you remember watching, but no one else really watched or remembers it so you feel alone?

I have a few. I used to love watching certain shows but no one I knew watched it. So it felt like I was the only one at times.

Hex
Dollhouse
Dark Angel
Roswell (the original not the newer one)
Firefly

And The Greatest American Hero on Saturday mornings. Brilliant theme tune.

’Believe it or not, I’m walking on air,
I never thought I could feel this freeeee,
Flying away on a wing and a prayer,
Who could it be?
Believe it or not, it’s just meeeee’

LunaNorth · 04/06/2023 22:10

BA Robertson did the theme tune to Maggie.

’Maggie, so far so good’

RomanMum · 04/06/2023 22:10

I give you: Captain Zep Space Detective. A children's crime game show/audience participation thing set on a space station where the audience dressed up as aliens and solved a different crime each episode.

I remember so many of these. I've got the books of Children of the Stones and Living in the Past but never saw the programmes. Remember Manimal, Young Americans, First Born (was this the same as Chimera?), Maelstrom, No Angels.

I also remember

Bod

Ivor the Engine

The one where the guy goes to a fancy dress shop and comes out in a different costume each episode - can't remember the name! He had a little bowler hat I think?

Mr Ben

Radi0liverpool · 04/06/2023 21:41

This was Betty's Bunch!!!

Secret Valley? Think that theme tune kind of went like that (and it was Australian)

behaveasbefitsthesituationwillyas · 04/06/2023 22:12

There was a british early 70s tv show (comedy) set in a house and one of the characters was a harlequin. (Called Timothy?) Can't remember the name of it at all.

Mr Benn

I remember Mr. Benn. The blurb in the Radio Times went "each week Mr Benn dresses up and has a new adventure". Amazed he hasn't been transed yet.

Space Cadets, presented by Johnny Vaughan. A load a reality TV star wannabes thought they were training to be cosmonauts and go into space, but they were actually in a hangar in Tipton or somewhere. Minsky the monkey featured.

I remember this!

Also that one where the contestants had to stay awake, winner was the one who stayed awake the longest - the final two or three were made to lie in bed in the dark after they'd been awake for a week or whatever.

I've not read the full thread but I loved :
The Phoenix and the Carpet
Beautiful People
Lily(?) Langtree

Oh yes the Phoenix and the Carpet! That was a weird one

@woodhill The Strange Affair of Adelaide Harris - I very much remember watching and enjoying this but I can’t remember anything about it! Did it involve a baby?

Yes I think so

VivaciousRadish · 04/06/2023 22:15

I loved Staying Alive @Marsyas - the reason no one’s heard of it is because it was in a Friday night, everyone was out. I don’t remember it having a supernatural side to it. I seem to remember one girl (not JH) being a bit of a stalker

Dublincailin · 04/06/2023 22:17

Another one

There was series where a boy made a video game was paid a million quid.

There was also a kids series where a boy kept turning into a dog.

American
Silk Stalkings
Alf

For the Irish

wanderly wagon
Forty coats
Glenroe

alargeoneforme · 04/06/2023 22:17

Sapphire and Steel with Joanna Lumley. Absolutely terrified me but couldn't stop watching.

coolmum123 · 04/06/2023 22:18

I remember Cover Up. Jon Erik Hexham was the fit guy. Died young. 😔

ZIEVAR · 04/06/2023 22:20

The Woodentops, Circus Boy, Lassie, Sir Lancelot, William Tell.............They are not obscure...you are all just too young.😂

MumUndone · 04/06/2023 22:22

The Mysterious Cities of Gold anyone?

Ox tails?

Riverlee · 04/06/2023 22:23

@ZIEVAR i think Lassie should be re-made or the original re-shown on tv, (especially as rough haired collies are at risk, apparently). I have a dog now, and whenever he barks for no apparent reason, we ask him if someone is stuck down the well…?! (He’s not a collie).

The Secret Life of Us. Was Australian, late 90s/early 2000s.

I loved SLOU. I recently rewatched it on Prime and it was brilliant. I had to skip the final series though because all the main characters had left.

I also loved a Channel 4 show called Sirens about ambulance/fire/ police crew. Richard Madden was in it and it was really good. They only made one series and I've never seen it repeated.

I was bereft when Pete Duel died out out of Alias Smith and Jones, I used to have pictures of him and Ben Murphy on my bedroom wall

Me too. Bit of a shock that was.

Banana Splits
Battle of the Planets
Digby the Biggest Dog in the World

JimnJoyce · 04/06/2023 22:36
