What obscure tv shows do you remember watching, but no one else really watched or remembers it so you feel alone?

I have a few. I used to love watching certain shows but no one I knew watched it. So it felt like I was the only one at times.

Hex
Dollhouse
Dark Angel
Roswell (the original not the newer one)
Firefly

Bangkok Hilton tv mini series with Nicole Kidman and the wonderful Denholm Elliott

Another one I've thought of is Codename Icarus.

WhyIsTheDogBlue · 04/06/2023 21:12

@Underthemagnificentbeechtree Just googled that, and YES! Thats what it was, thank you. Thought I was going mad as even my siblings can't remember it... and my sister is usually like an elephant and forgets nothing😂

When I was about 7 or 8,I watched a programme called 'Here come The Double Deckers',about a gang of kids who lived on a London double decker bus. It was my favourite TV show as a child, but anyone I've mentioned it to has never heard of it! If it wasn't for the fact that I've looked it up on the internet to confirm that it actually existed,I'd think I imagined it or dreamt it!

I remember this very well, including the theme tune 😄

What about Rex the Runt?

And the Sunday Show with Dennis Pennis?

ALongHardWinter · 04/06/2023 21:15

Just remembered another one - The Kids from 47A. I think it was on around 1973/74 when I was 9 or 10. It was about 4 siblings,2 brothers and 2 sisters ranging in age from about 18 to 8,whose widowed mother had either gone into hospital or had died,I can't remember exactly. The eldest girl had a continual struggle to keep the family together as social services kept trying to take the youngest 2 into care.

“Our day out”.

Think everyone in Liverpool watched this. Not sure about elsewhere

We read the play at school in English Lit. Had to read it in Scouse accents, despite being at a school in Dorset 🙄

My teacher complimented my excellent Scouse accent at parent-teacher evening and my mum had to tell him she's from the same village as the author and we visited relatives there four times a year so I was pretty well exposed 😁

Dinneronmybfpillow · 04/06/2023 21:22

Tool Academy.

Only three series but utterly brilliant. Every now and then someone tweets Rick Edwards demanding they bring it back.

Obscure?

Not unless you are about 12, surely?

There was a series which started with a minstrel singer under a tree singing a song usually had a meaning to it and it would open into a story, the story would fade out back to the minstrel singing

I don't know what else to call him, he was dressed curly shoes, tights, hat etc.

The Storyteller. I remember the song.

@Dinneronmybfpillow

i hadnt realised it got as far as Dorset! It’s made me laugh about the class having to do the scouse accent.

froginawell · 04/06/2023 21:26

I'm a storyteller, and my stories must be told....

Rummikub · 04/06/2023 21:26

Oh I loved that! You just reminded me re I’m a storyteller

Oh theres another one I remember. I can’t remember the title but I think it was on channel 5. It was drawn in quite a scratchy style and was about a teen girl and the problems she had. I wish I could remember the title. Would have been early-mid 00s.

Daria? (Originally an MTV show and spin off of Beavis and Butthead)

Love that show.

Ah - someone much the same age as me, I loved White Horses.
Do you remember Champion the Wonder Horse as well?

I do! Loved the theme tune

HazelBite · 04/06/2023 21:29

I remember a series called Portland Bill, with all the characters having names of shipping areas, a dog called Dogger, a dachshund called German Bite and many more.

marthasmum · 04/06/2023 21:30

the cartoon type one about a teenage girls woes is SWALK I think (Sealed With a Loving Kiss?) The heroine was obsessed with girls’ magazines (in the Cathy and Claire era) and it ended with her realising how idealised they were - quite ahead of it’s time.

Loved Striker, we watched it every week and o read the books. The part where Ben’s mum dies is very sad. I always thought Jossy’s Giants owed a lot to Striker!

I remember Kizzy, about the Traveller girl fostered into a kindly but ill-equipped middle class household.
A few years earlier: The Changes on BBC and Georgian House on ITV. Both supernatural (the former slightly Wyndham(ish)).

Oh yes,I loved 'Kizzy'! And I remember that programme 'The Changes'. It scared the shit out of me! 😱

behaveasbefitsthesituationwillyas · 04/06/2023 21:31

I have a vague recollection of an Aussie children's TV show about kids in a care home. And I think it was called 'Home' or 'House'. I remember it was really good! And the tune went something "home, home, home, on the other side" - or something like that. Would like to see that again. No one else seems to have heard of it.

DragonflyLady · 04/06/2023 21:32

Too many pages to read through!! Does anyone remember Colin’s Sandwich in the 80s??

Peppaspetfish · 04/06/2023 21:33

Eerie , Indiana about a small town where weird things happen. Vividly remember the one where the family slept in tupperware to stay young. No one else seems to have heard of it though!

Mooserp · 04/06/2023 21:33

The Tomfoolery Show

This was one I thought I had imagined, fish on stilts anyone?

Mummaluma · 04/06/2023 21:34

What about Round the Twist? I can still remember the theme. I think it was on channel 4, Sunday mornings during the early 1990s.

@NightOwlNotEarlyBird I used to love Mork & Mindy! I watched it in my teens in the 90s so would have been repeats.

Does anyone remember the late 80s Beauty and the Beast series? My best friend and I used to go trampolining together on a Friday evening then she'd come back to mine for a sleepover or I'd go to hers, and we were allowed a can of fizzy drink and a bar of chocolate whilst watching that. Highlight of the week.

Yes! I remember watching this with my mum on a Friday night. I thought it was terrifying! I remember him living underground in a sewer and watching it through my fingers!

notprincehamlet · 04/06/2023 21:35

Does anyone remember a children's cartoon series from the 1970s called Issy NoHo?
I loved that so much!
