What obscure tv shows do you remember watching, but no one else really watched or remembers it so you feel alone?

Soubriquet · 04/06/2023 15:47

I have a few. I used to love watching certain shows but no one I knew watched it. So it felt like I was the only one at times.

Hex
Dollhouse
Dark Angel
Roswell (the original not the newer one)
Firefly

About Striker

On IDMB

"One of my favourite TV series as a lad. Corrie's Don Brennan played Ben's Dad. He was an ex-footballer who had broken his leg and had to stop playing. This caused Ben's mum to have to get a job. She was killed driving into a bridge in an effort to get home one night. As a result, the Dad hated football and wouldn't let Ben play, despite him being a talented player. They arrived in an area which had a hopeless team. Ben joined secretly but his Dad eventually found out. After a row and stand-off, he agreed to coach the team. Another part of the story concerned a local girl who was also a brilliant player, and the team's efforts to find a way to get round the league's 'boys only' rule. How did the team get on? You'll have to find and read the book! The second series, like the book, was called 'Striker- Second Leg'."

Wow, I was beginning to think I imagined it! And yes Barriers!!!!

Gassylady · 04/06/2023 20:51

That is barriers, first time I felt “stirrings” I think also loved the littlest hobos and due south! So many pretty men 🤭🤫

TheHateIsNotGood · 04/06/2023 20:52

thanks to everyone for remembering the telly we used to watch - The Sullivans I used to watch as a young shift worker when adjusting between days and nights.

"The Virginian" shown I think on Friday evenings.

I used to love all those westerns, The Virginian, Bonanza, Alias Smith and Jones and I'm sure I vaguely remember Wagon Train

User1328745 · 04/06/2023 20:56

What a shame that so many of these programmes aren't on the many streaming channels or even DVD, it's like they are lost forever.

70sTomboy · 04/06/2023 20:56

I've got The Littlest Hobo and Ted Hand Gang on DVD. It's my guilty pleasure.

calimali · 04/06/2023 20:57

I loved Maggie, Lizzie Dripping, Midnight is a Place, Jessie's Giants, The Red Hand Gang. They just do not make children's drama like this anymore.

Other programmes I loved were The Sullivans, The Beachcombers, Space 1999.

Monkey on BBC2 circa 1980? Absolutely brilliant bonkers Japanese production.

Aaah pigsy. 😁 Your right it was bonkers.

User1328745 · 04/06/2023 21:00

I used to also love Land of the Giants, I think it was on Saturday teatime.

ArthnoldManacatsaman · 04/06/2023 21:01

@woodhill The Strange Affair of Adelaide Harris - I very much remember watching and enjoying this but I can’t remember anything about it! Did it involve a baby?

WhyIsTheDogBlue · 04/06/2023 21:02

I can't remember what it was called, but I remember watching somthing around the mid 90s(I was getting a bit old for kids tv but watched with younger siblings), think it was CITV. It was about a family from another planet who came to earth because of something the father did(I think) the middle child a girl with a very severe red bob, was in charge of the whole family and made all decisions. Her parents were pretty useless, the older sister was an air head and the younger brother was a genius. I remember a really freaky looking man and woman from their planet came looking for them, the guy had black eyes and was terrifying to look at and the woman had pinched up lips and odd looking.
Nobody ever remembers it when I try and explain it to them.
I think it was possibly Australian?

SydneyCarton · 04/06/2023 16:24

@LadyOfTheCanyon I loved Phoneshop! New Man! And the shrine to Little Gary Patel 🤣.

I'm so glad! We reference it all the time in our house.
" do the music"
" I felt like a fucking Queen"
" let's make a baby Barak"
" I can smell your fucking hands"
" white man reggae club"

..and so on!

ArthnoldManacatsaman · 04/06/2023 21:03

Also does anyone remember Jossy’s Giants?

PlatBilledDuckypuss · 04/06/2023 21:04

Murder in Suburbia. Still miss Ash and Scribbs. Only hope Ash got Boss in the end.

OhFFS! · 04/06/2023 21:05

@70sTomboy
On your Littlest Hobo dvd, I don't suppose there is the episode "No Escape" or "My Client, a Dog". My grandad is in them and I would love to get hold of a copy of those episodes but haven't been able to find them

Wish Me Luck… About a group of female British spies, that were dropped into wartime France to work with the Resistance.
I thought they were impossibly glamorous and brave.

@WhyIsTheDogBlue I think you are thinking of Halfway Across the Galaxy and Turn Left

I will have to look at episodes on the box, I can't remember off the top of my head. I got it on Amazon.
