What obscure tv shows do you remember watching, but no one else really watched or remembers it so you feel alone?

I have a few. I used to love watching certain shows but no one I knew watched it. So it felt like I was the only one at times.

Hex
Dollhouse
Dark Angel
Roswell (the original not the newer one)
Firefly

When I was a kid, in the 70s, there was a children's programme featuring a hippy type woman in cheesecloth clothes who sang , I remember the theme tune:

"I've got a handful of songs to sing you
New songs and blue songs, and songs to bring you
Happiness, no more and no less..."

No one else seems to remember this ...

It was called ‘Handful of Songs’ on ITV

MadEyeJudy · 04/06/2023 20:38

9 yo me was devastated - & still is to a degree...(nothing's ever forgotten 😁)!! Can't believe he jacked it in to be in bloody 'Riders'. Imagine how batshit the fandoms would be around it if it was on now!!

lucylulululu · 04/06/2023 20:38

@Vesuviusbeats I know right!?? God there were some horrific shows in the 90s 🙈😂

Flambards it had lots of horse riding in it and a girl called Christina.
Also The Sullivans about war time Australians. Loved them both.
Also remember The Mallens. That was based in NE England long ago. Very good series to watch.

@NightOwlNotEarlyBird I used to love Mork & Mindy! I watched it in my teens in the 90s so would have been repeats.

Does anyone remember the late 80s Beauty and the Beast series? My best friend and I used to go trampolining together on a Friday evening then she'd come back to mine for a sleepover or I'd go to hers, and we were allowed a can of fizzy drink and a bar of chocolate whilst watching that. Highlight of the week.

I loved that! Vincent the lion? And Sarah Connor?

OhFFS! · 04/06/2023 20:41

@mbosnz my grandad was in a couple of the Littlest Hobo. I've tried to get episodes on DVD but the don't have those episodes released.

I'd completely forgotten about The Murder Game, that was brilliant

RhubarbandCustardYummyYummy · 04/06/2023 20:41

TheHateIsNotGood · 04/06/2023 20:42

The Day of the Triffids.

70sTomboy · 04/06/2023 20:42

In the 70s, a children's teatime series about a girl playing in a boys football team. I think it was called Striker, but I haven't been able to find anything about it.

Red Hand Gang and The Littlest Hobo you have to be a certain age for.

AhhSlippedOnMahBeansRitaaa · 04/06/2023 20:42

The tribe 😀

Enter...stranger.....

I used to watch this!

IthinkIsawahairbrushbackthere · 04/06/2023 20:43

@risefromyourgrave I still remember the theme tunes to Mulberry and The River. Every time I have to say the word ‘Mulberry’ (which TBH is not very often…) I say it in the old lady’s voice!

DH and I were talking about it last week. I said I liked Mulberry as a dog's name but he said it would be awkward to stand at the back door and shout "Mulberrrey!"

GloriousD · 04/06/2023 20:46

Applesinmyhouse · 04/06/2023 20:34

Oh theres another one I remember. I can’t remember the title but I think it was on channel 5. It was drawn in quite a scratchy style and was about a teen girl and the problems she had. I wish I could remember the title. Would have been early-mid 00s.

Daria?

dropthevipers · 04/06/2023 20:47

This is so niche I had to google it to make sure it wasn't making it up. "Airport Chaplain". Aussie daytime soap with such low production values it made Home and Away look like `Citizen Kane. Every week an airline passenger would have some catastrophic crisis of faith which the vicar would sort out (or not) inside half an hour. The kind of show you watch through the cracks in your fingers. I also remember Itv kids show in the seventies. Fuck knows what they were on but they made a whole bunch of shows with a supernatural theme-Ace of Wands, The tomorrow people etc. But the hands down weirdest was "The children of the Stones". If you submitted a script like that today for consideration you would be getting a visit from social services.

Cheeseplantt · 04/06/2023 20:47

Neverwhere. Was in the mid 90s & no-one else remembers it.

About Striker

On IDMB

"One of my favourite TV series as a lad. Corrie's Don Brennan played Ben's Dad. He was an ex-footballer who had broken his leg and had to stop playing. This caused Ben's mum to have to get a job. She was killed driving into a bridge in an effort to get home one night. As a result, the Dad hated football and wouldn't let Ben play, despite him being a talented player. They arrived in an area which had a hopeless team. Ben joined secretly but his Dad eventually found out. After a row and stand-off, he agreed to coach the team. Another part of the story concerned a local girl who was also a brilliant player, and the team's efforts to find a way to get round the league's 'boys only' rule. How did the team get on? You'll have to find and read the book! The second series, like the book, was called 'Striker- Second Leg'."

Rummikub · 04/06/2023 20:48

@GloriousD yes!

He made a multi layered roast and didn’t he roast a mouse as the inner layer? That’s what my childhood memory is saying. I remember he dragged a reluctant woman out from the audience to eat with him!

70sTomboy · 04/06/2023 20:49

Another one..80s..flute playing public schoolboy who is orphaned, then finds out he was adopted. Links to Austria/ Hungary.
