Wearing pjs to hang washing outside

pjswashingline · 03/06/2023 07:52

I'm just waiting on the washing machine to finish and then I will hand it outside. I am in pjs and will not get changed prior to going outside. We have neighbours at either side so I can be seen but I think it's perfectly acceptable to be out in nightwear. I just wondered if others get changed first?

My boobs are not designed for me to be able to wander around braless unfortunately so I mostly get changed before leaving my bedroom. I would if I could.

Doggymummar · 03/06/2023 09:07

I wear a bra to bed so it looks fine. A sugar Candy one

Enko · 03/06/2023 09:07

Personally not something I'd do. I wouldn't judge neighbours if I saw them do so.

LlynTegid · 03/06/2023 09:09

I wouldn't. Having a shower and getting into day clothes is an important part of getting up, wouldn't even go to the bins unless dressed.

Nutterjacks · 03/06/2023 09:11

wibblewobbleball · 03/06/2023 07:54

Normal to do this surely? I hang my wash out every morning in my PJs. I like to get my house jobs done for the morning before I get dressed.

Me too, and take the rubbish out.
No point in getting showered and dressed before doing housework.

Lulu1919 · 03/06/2023 09:14

Often do it .....didn't know it might not be a thing ,,,

I’ve been known to go to the cinema in my jimjams! It’s clothing. Do it!

😳That's a step too far

orangeclubsarebest · 03/06/2023 09:18

Of course it's ok. I put the bin out, go out to the car, collect children late at night in pjs 😂

Ifeellikeateenageragain · 03/06/2023 09:20

Very normal. When they were younger, my DSDC were shocked but then I demonstrated I could sashay dance out the front door and along the footpath in my PJs and no one cares 😁. THAT was probably pushing it but in your own space is perfectly fine and acceptable.

MintyCedric · 03/06/2023 09:21

I don’t have a PJs as such…just a revolving selection of harem pants and t shirts…newer ones for at home day wear and when they get a bit tatty they get consigned to ‘PJ status’

So anyone seeing me in them would have a bit of a conundrum figuring out whether I’m ‘appropriately’ dressed of not (all hinges on whether I’ve got undies and a bra on imo!)

So unless I’m actually going out, that’s what I’m generally wearing, and if DD needs picking up late in the evening, that’s still what I’ll be wearing. I wouldn’t think twice about hanging the washing, going out to the car or garage in them.

CrackedSkull · 03/06/2023 09:23

It's your gaff . Wear what you want . I wouldn't wear them beyond the garden gate though .

TallerThanAverage · 03/06/2023 09:25

Within the boundary of your property PJs are acceptable. Outside the boundary PJs are unacceptable. If I ever had to go to pick up the DC or DH I’d put jeans and a jumper on top. My friend went out in just her PJs and had a collision with another car, she was mortified more because she was wearing PJs more than the accident.

Allwelcone · 03/06/2023 09:27

Standards!! My rules:
In yr own house and garden, it's your business of course,

Neighbours shd consider themselves lucky to see me in my flanelette.

Outside, e.g at the front, is a TOTALLY different matter.
Boundaries people, boundaries !

100% agree. Mortifying.

I wear my dressing gown. I hang out my washing in my back garden. Only a few neighbours can see me. I see one of them having a little walk around their garden in their dressing gown most mornings anyway.

I also put my rubbish out in my dressing gown. That's in the front garden so pretty much visible to anyone passing. No one bats an eyelid.

During lockdown I spent a lot of time in my dressing gown. I don't think there's a single neighbour that didn't see me in my dressing gown at some point over those months.

I actually really love my dressing gown. It's so soft and comfortable.

VintedoreBay · 03/06/2023 09:33

I used to love breakfast in the garden in PJs! Nowt wrong with putting the washing out in PJs!

polkadotpixie · 03/06/2023 09:38

I go to the Co-Op in my PJs 🤣 I do draw the line at doing the school run though unlike some of the Mums at DC school

Pourmeanotherwine · 03/06/2023 09:43

I wouldn't - partly because I live in a terrace and have a narrow garden with low walls both sides. Also the neighbours sit outside a lot, often have friends over, and I'm unlikely to be up early enough to be hanging my washing out at 8am.

Moonflower12 · 03/06/2023 09:47

We have no neighbours for at least half a mile and we're quarter of a mile, set back from the road.

I could put the washing out, naked and nobody would see. It would be just my luck the farmer would turn up in the next door field though, so I don't!

HashtagShitShop · 03/06/2023 09:53

I live in mine or house only clothes if not leaving the house so I'm regularly putting the washing out in them, I even put the rubbish/recycling out in the front garden in them too and have been caught by neighbours and had chats with them whilst on pj's. I think it's gotten to the point with some of the neighbours that they'd be more surprised to see me in day clothes 😂

*disclaimer: I'm a 24/7 unpaid carer with a horrendously bad fully medicated for upper and lower back. If I dont need to wear a bra I actively avoid doing so.

thebestbirtheraccordingtoDD · 03/06/2023 09:59

I've just hung the washing pot taken out the recycling moved one car off the drive to let DH out all in my dressing gown & slippers
If I waited to get dressed the washing would never go out

MyPenIsHuge · 03/06/2023 09:59

PJs like loungewear ... yes. Sexy nightie ... nope.

mastertomsmum · 03/06/2023 10:01

Sounds fine, but don’t do what I did once - ie no out to get bin in and have the gate slam shut and find you are locked out 😂

xoomer · 03/06/2023 10:01

I've done / do this. I've not seen either neighbour do it in 15 years.

PuttingDownRoots · 03/06/2023 10:03

I go as far as putting bins out in PJs. Including when we lived abroad when it was shorts and vest. But that was a panicky I can hear the lorry coming at 6am! (And we had a pooli like all our neighbours)

In England its moor likely to be the Oodie-style thing.
