Wearing pjs to hang washing outside

pjswashingline · 03/06/2023 07:52

I'm just waiting on the washing machine to finish and then I will hand it outside. I am in pjs and will not get changed prior to going outside. We have neighbours at either side so I can be seen but I think it's perfectly acceptable to be out in nightwear. I just wondered if others get changed first?

I do it all the time.

If jobs need doing when I'm in my PJs, then I do them with my PJs on. I'm not going to get dressed to do an outside job and then put my PJs back on again, if, for eg, I suddenly realised at 8pm when I'm snugged up with the dog, that I've forgotten to fill my bird feeder or water the new plants, why the hell would I get dressed to go outside?

My neighbours can suck up the sight of me in my (very respectable) PJs. I also (prepare to clutch pearls) walk the dog around my tiny hamlet in PJs and dressing gown!

I went out in the garden yesterday morning to open the greenhouse door wearing a knee length oodie thing and slip on garden shoes. The coolness I felt underneath was lovely and liberating. It was 6am and it didn't take long.

I've seen quite a few neighbours in their nightwear putting out rubbish early on bin day no-one bats an eyelid.

polkadotdalmation · 03/06/2023 10:13

Good heavens yes. I'd stay in PJs all day if I could.

CornishGem1975 · 03/06/2023 10:21

I've gone into the garden in bra and pants before. My garden, I could be butt naked if I wanted! If the neighbours don't like it, don't look?!

NowItsLikeSnowAtTheBeach · 03/06/2023 10:25

Most wear less to sunbathe in the garden, the beach or pool, so I don't see the problem with pjs in the garden.

sugarapplelane · 03/06/2023 10:25

Pj’s all the way for me too 😊

You’re not alone

kingtamponthefurred · 03/06/2023 10:43

Pyjamas are fine if you are not leaving your own house and grounds.

Me too and my thoughts exactly

I live in my pjs which in summer are crop trousers and a vest top.

I like to put a bra on if I go in the garden with washing or doing thr bind though.

I'm top heavy and feel weird in public without a bra

itsgettingweird · 03/06/2023 10:56

I have a shared garden.

Me and my neighbours still hang it out in nightwear!

What's the difference between leggings and t shirt just because one says sports wear and the other night/lounge wear?!

speakout · 03/06/2023 12:59

Totally fine OP, I'm surprised you have to ask.

Personally I wouldn't, because I don't like being in my PJs when I am not in bed.
I like to sort myself out first, shower/dressed hair/skincare before anything but a coffee happens.
My house is rarely too warm for a dressing gown, and the thought of wide sleeves in dirty sink water makes me shudder.
I also like to wear a bra when I am moving around, and I don't wear a bra under my pjs

Get away, there is no 'pyjamas in your own garden' etiquette. I'll be out there in a short nightshirt as soon as the washer's finished - feast your eyes, neighbourinos.

If the OP is going to ask, I think it does need clarification as there is a difference. I doubt you'd go to the supermarket in a nightshirt but some people do in pj's.

BCBird · 03/06/2023 21:07

Definitely in pjs.

Tulipvase · 03/06/2023 21:09

Will happily hang washing out in my pjs and dressing gown but I am reluctant to answer the door unless dressed.

wowie69 · 03/06/2023 21:19

I'm always hanging washing out/putting bins out in my PJs, don't think anyone gives a shit tbh

StormShadow · 03/06/2023 21:39

Obviously fine.

Pyjamas are fine if you are not leaving your own house and grounds.

This, I'll happily nip the bins down to the front and bring them in but dig walking, school run, nipping the supermarket is just slovenly
