Please please please tell me without me RTWT (I’ve read half to be fair) that someone has pointed out that Tom Hanks is for sure a cheating scumbag? @AbbyGal @Blondey2023

I hadn't heard this. Evidence?

I've worked with sir David, and can promise you he is an utter gent and exactly what you see on TV!! 🥰

@k17

But child abusers can be charming they aren't exactly going to tell you they have an interest in kids?

Absolutely.

I’m genuinely surprised by all the people on here who are quick to confirm that “so and so” is genuinely a nice person and “just like the person you see on TV” etc based on the fact they’ve met said person and they were nice on those occasions.

I’m pretty sure a lot of people though Rolf Harris and Jimmy Saville were really nice people upon meeting them….

Meeting someone and them appearing to be “a proper gent” certainly doesn’t mean that’s the case.

It’s usually the men who seem so genuine and so nice who are the ones who turn out to be the bad guys.

@xoomer WOW. Are you ok? Do you need to sit down and take a moment? How the hell does your mind work?
Where has sir David bring a child abuser come from?
In that case, what about your husband, your brother, your dad? They’re not going to tell you either are they?

This isn't a post about who do we think is a child abuser- it's is we think people are as nice in person as they seem on TV.

CheekNerveGallAudacityandGumption · 31/05/2023 09:08

Exactly. They charm and groom everyone around them to get access to what they really want 🤮

xoomer · 31/05/2023 09:09

@k17 No it really isn't!!!

Charlie Watts. That would have ended me.

I worked in a bookshop when I was a student and Charlie Watts was browsing at a table ( dressed smartly in a suit). We often got famous people in due to the location and some were less than polite and most expected special attention. We were behind the cash desk and saw him approached by two customers asking if he was the manager. He smiled politely said he was sorry but he didn’t work there. He helped one of them by directing her to the right section. Just a snippet but he came across as really without ego.
We used to laugh about it later, changing the reply “ No, “I’m not the manager. I’m a Rolling Stone.” It’s the kind of response they would have had from most. Actually they would have probably just got an icy glare.

I thought this post was about men who we couldn’t bear to think of as someone being involved in sexual/child abuse?

That’s what the term “Wrong ‘Un” means to me anyway.

Being grumpy, or rude or an arsehole etc doesn’t make someone a “wrong ‘un.”

Having a sexually scandalous past, usually involving abuse, does.

That's an incredibly limited interpretation.

I'm not saying it's not true, but I am amused by all the people saying "I met [actor] and they were just as lovely as they are on the TV." The clue is in the profession, surely?

MysteriesOfTheOrganism · 31/05/2023 09:30

Nobody, really. We're all human, we all have our weaknesses and failings - some more than others. and some more or less egregious. But nobody is perfect.

EamonsPalliativeCareTracksuit · 31/05/2023 09:33

How strange - Googling Tom Hanks and Ginnifer Goodwin throws up no real results! Super injunction??

I would say that men who abuse women and children are more than just someone with a “bad character” and not something that can be compared to the “bad character” trait of simply being rude to others.

The term obviously has a very, very wide spectrum, and I think different posters are naming Celebs who would be placed in different areas of the spectrum.

For example, a lot of famous women are being listed and I imagine that in all those cases, the posters aren’t thinking of them being “wrong ‘uns” in the case of them being at the very severe end of the spectrum and are instead just thinking about their personality types.

Whereas for a lot of the famous men being listed, I think a high majority of the posters are thinking about it in terms of the very severe end of the spectrum I.e the kind of scandal that we associate with Epstein, Saville and Harris etc.

Lots of good ones on here.

I'd have to agree with

Joanna Lumley
Sir David Jason
Rowan Atkinson

Also for me
