Would you steal sand from the beach? (Lighthearted)

We need some sand for these weight things we got to attach to the legs of our gazebo. Apparently they come empty so you need something to fill them with. I suggested going to the local beach and using sand from there rather than the further expense of buying sand or something else.. DH says no we can't do that as it's illegal to steal sand , which according to google is technically true, but still, is it really that big of a deal? Does anyone care? Would a police officer really arrest me for stealing some sand? 😆 (as title says this is lighthearted)

Or is "lighthearted " code for "only post if you agree with me?"

I'm hoping people's responses can help you see why your initial reaction was wrong.

ExhaustedAlready · 29/05/2023 08:39

And why would you sit there, think about doing it, make a post about thinking about doing it then go...

But I wanst going to do it!!

😂

You need a hobby to occupy yourself.

sunseaandme · 29/05/2023 08:39

@ExhaustedAlready yes for a bit of fun, I'm not actually going to go to the beach to get sand as I've already said, some on MN really seem to take life too seriously and literally get wound up over everything 🙃

But have you read the replies? How is it "fun"? Can you not see you're wrong?

Are they really that funny?

Maybe you need to get out more.

But not to the beach, please Grin

I hate the expression "I bet you're fun at parties".

It's just used to shut people down and make them feel shit.

WeaselKingHenry · 29/05/2023 08:44

Just buy sand or rice

I don't feel shit but yes, it's a rubbish phrase. I have a lovely time at parties we often discuss the environment, science and things like that. Must be the circles I move in.

CharlottenBurger · 29/05/2023 08:47

We have those sticky tape dispensers at work that are quite heavy and have non slip stuff on the bottom so you can just pull the tape and cut it on the little blade, without it skating around on the desk. One day one started leaking sand everywhere after it got a crack. I thought they were solid, but evidently they aren't, and they put sand inside to weight them down. 'Oh dear, what shall we do?' Charlie 'fun at parties' Burger to the rescue. The remedy? Sticky tape over the crack! I have a feeling that garden sand comes from quarries, and I think they must steam it or something to dry it out, and also beach sand might have all kinds of little creepy things you may not want in your garden.

SeatonCarew · 29/05/2023 08:48

Didn't MN stop people being able to change name mid thread?

🤔

Get literally wound up? Like a circus contortionist? Or a human watch spring? You kind of asked for this.

To me it is a big deal, lots of people care especially those who live near the coast and/or who understand ecosystems/importance of nature, and it is unlikely an officer would be available to arrest but if you were observed then it could be reported and as you have identified it is a criminal offence.

I don't know how to be light-hearted about it, it isn't that light-hearted a topic!

AmazingBouncingFerret · 29/05/2023 08:53

This thread is like a tin of Ronseal. I knew exactly what to expect from the title and it didn’t disappoint!

LotsOfBalloons · 29/05/2023 08:56

So instead of admitting she's wrong/in light of everyone else onto he thread. She's "howling". Bet she's fun at parties 🤭. You can tell the level of conversation you'd get!

WoofWoofBeachLife · 29/05/2023 08:59

Ooooo there are little sand hoppers in the sand you won't see. We took sand from the beach when we got married in a little tub, I dried it out in the oven and the little critters were like tiny shrimp 🍤 on the surface. I think you wouldn't be able to live with yourself hearing wee "help me" squeaks from your gazebo weights OP 😂😂

MinnieMountain · 29/05/2023 09:03

You’re “howling” at talk about damaging the environment? Wow.

Yeah it's a weird one - I don't even get how to be lighthearted about it. Hahaha yes! Go and pinch some sand lol..

AngelinaFibres · 29/05/2023 09:10

Bags of gravel. Bags of builders sand. All freely available at your local garden centre,B and Q etc.

Missingmyusername · 29/05/2023 09:19

Come to me- took the family to the beach and reckon there’s enough sand in my bloody car for your needs 😂

Did you name change? Or forget which name you'd posted under?

People feel strongly about sand and our beaches because of people like you.

Heartsnrainbows · 29/05/2023 09:26

They sell bags of sand in pound shops. How tight do you have to be? 😂
