When you don't feel like cooking?

I came across the thread about discontinued food from M&S and since I've never tried their ready meals, I'm keen to give them a shot for dinner.

OP posts:

Prawn dumplings and chocolate marzipan bars.

Prawn dumplings and chocolate marzipan bars.

I loved the marzipan balls but they seem to be phasing them out

GraysPapaya · 26/05/2023 21:03

They do a really simple, cheap chocolate Swiss roll type thing and the chocolate is thick and it just tastes amazing!

Also their basic marmalade (I think it's only £1.20 or something) is really tasty.

I also love their sourdough pizzas and always seem to be in there when they're on sale.

Their own brand black pudding is also the best I've bought in a shop.

Their steak cut chips 😏

Can I interest you in a nice wine to go with that?

Spectre8 · 26/05/2023 21:12

Sourdough baguette
£1 garlic bread baguette ( i chuck it in the airfryer...amazing)
Baby leaf salad bag
Mushroom pate
Chicken tenders in various flavours like southern fried, katsu etc.
Frozen onion rings
Vanilla Greek yoghurt

wineandsunshine · 26/05/2023 21:12

I love M&S food!

Best lasagne ever or steak pie.

Mini loaf cakes.

Hungry now 😊

That’s what it’s called here , perfect Saturday movie night food with a bag of their tortilla chips

This. Is. AMAZING.

"Serves 6" my foot.

User1529865 · 26/05/2023 21:15

The slow cooked lamb is nice, there are about 3 different ones in boxes

Newgolddream70 · 26/05/2023 21:15

The Gastropub chicken and leek pie is delicious!

Also, in the healthy snacks aisle, they do these cracker/biscuit things; they're a bit like a Ritz but nicer. I like the sesame ones.

Vitriolinsanity · 26/05/2023 21:16

All of it. Can I just do a trolley dash?

tillyandmilly · 26/05/2023 21:18

Their plant kitchen burgers are the best!

User1529865 · 26/05/2023 21:18

The chocolate squirty cream is lovely and i did enjoy Coronation Colin.

lavenderlou · 26/05/2023 21:18

I am currently tucking into their panda bao buns with hoi sin mushrooms.

vejazzlement · 26/05/2023 21:18

My mum used to send me back to university with an arsenal of M&S "boil in the bag" meals, to the amusement of my housemates. I don't think they do those any more, but I was evidently brought up on M&S food and have carried on the tradition.

One of my DC said the other day that he was doing his food shop in M&S. I told him that students weren't supposed to be shopping in M&S, and he was completely baffled that there might be an alternative. So I clearly set a bad example when my DC were growing up.

Lasouthpaw · 26/05/2023 21:22

Their steak and ale pie from the gastro pub range.

The Devonshire yoghurt with a cherry compote (I normally am chocolate everything but this is amazing!)

The frozen cookie dough - cook it just under and they come out warm and gooey.

The fresh, plain scones from the bakery.

The peanut butter and apple dip pots, the little tubs of prawns and their carrot sticks and houmous tubs. All from the sandwich fridge.

The big milk chocolate buttons.

Colin the Caterpillar in a jar.

Mushy pea and cod fishcakes and the breaded katsu chicken goujons.

I spend a lot of time in M and S!

Crikeyalmighty · 26/05/2023 21:23

Ah now you are talking as I do nearly all my ship from there

Chilli prawn buccanti
Macaroni cheese with bacon
Fish pie
Shanghai beef noodles
Sri Lankan curry
Pasta shell bolognaise
Gluten free frozen fish fingers
Chicken tempura
Chicken kievs
Quiches
Beef and onion pasties
Cumberland sausages

Yiayoula · 26/05/2023 21:24

Like so many others , love the Gastropub range ( especially the lasagne, and the paella) , and all their Indian food is fantastic.
My absolute favourite, though , would be the stem ginger cookies - one packet is never enough .
As an aside , from the other thread , please please M and S , bring back the chicken tikka sandwiches with the bright green minty dressing !

Schum · 26/05/2023 21:24

The veggie roasted butternut squash risotto is amazing. I had it tonight actually lol.

Crikeyalmighty · 26/05/2023 21:31

My 25 year old som on a budget has a freezer full of their yellow sticker products! Plus the 3 for 8 deli stuff - he is addicted it seems after his years with me.

Their cottage pies and their filled yorkshire puddings, although the Yorkshire puds are now £5.
I've just seen their latest as about traceability though featuring black cows and I wonder how many customers it will put off because they're so darned cute.

I buy the cottage pie with the brown packaging, and grate some of their divine extra mature cheddar in the top. Thick slices of tomato on top and it's ready for the oven. Delicious, and good for me as a coeliac.

Also their fresh roast potatoes with butter (buy the big pack for extra value)

Gluten free sourdough or lemon buns. Occasionally a gf coffee and walnut cake if guests are coming.

Cheese puffs.

Meal deals can be good. I like the fact they include gf pizza in the pizza meal deal.

Ready made salads, though they've got very expensive.

Completely not helpful, but their cheese tasters are the food of the Gods. Wotsits are very poor by comparison.

I have been known to have them for dinner, with a glass of wine.

👍🏻

The majority is processed crap and they add sugar to make it edible

When Ocado switched from Waitrose to M&s the calories for a chicken in a bag (basically a roast chicken) shot through the roof as M&S use cheap ingredients and bulk with sugar.

M&S certainly isnt a store for anyone who is a foodie.

I find that anyone who self-describes as a 'foodie' usually tends to be an interminable bore.

That's me, then.

I'm more than happy for M&S to do the grunt work.

They briefly did large pasta shells stuffed with spinach and ricotta in a tomato sauce, topped with breadcrumbs and pine nuts, during the pandemic (or was it just before? that all blends into one now). It was soooo delicious, the best veggie ready meal I've ever had 🙁

I’ve had this in the last few months! My fave is their ricotta cannelloni, but if they’ve run out, I get the pasta shells. I hadn’t noticed they were gone!
