How much coffee do you drink in a day?

I have 2 or 3 cups in the first hour I wake up, one mid morning, and occasionally one of an evening.

Do you think this is a normal ammount or is it excessive and I should look at cutting back?

I am usually one first thing then a second before 11am. A third mid afternoon a few days a week.

Can you sleep ok? If I drink caffeinated drinks after 3ish it affects my sleep

GeriKellmansUpdo · 26/05/2023 09:24

3 cups a day. That's my only vice so not giving it up. I don't think it's excessive.

just the one at around 10.30.
I find any more increases general anxiety issues.

ThirstyThursday · 26/05/2023 09:26

Usually 2 cup in the morning, sometimes 3, but not usually more as it would upset my stomach. I very very rarely have coffee after 2pm. I don't sleep well anyway, so don't drink coffee later.

I don't think your intake is excessive at all though.

TinyRebellion · 26/05/2023 09:27

None at all.

OooohKeepYourKnickersOn · 26/05/2023 09:27

I don't but 5 cups doesn't sound too much to me

CalistoNoSolo · 26/05/2023 09:27

One first thing and no more. I love coffee but since perimenopause got me it gives me awful migraines if I drink too much.

If you're sleeping OK and can function without it, it doesn't sound an excessive intake to me.

Kyse23 · 26/05/2023 09:29

The odd one but I drink at least 5 big mugs of tea!

WakeMeUpWhenGoodOmensIsBack · 26/05/2023 09:30

If it doesn't impair your sleep and you're not drinking it with added sugar then it's not too much.
I normally have two or three coffees and about five teas.

thedogisstaring · 26/05/2023 09:31

At work I'll have 4 cups of strong black coffee at least. On my days off only one or two. But if I have none for a couple of days I get terrible headache. I'm clearly addicted to caffeine!

bakewellbride · 26/05/2023 09:31

2-5 cups. I have a baby who wakes at night so I'm not cutting down for anyone or anything!

Bluevelvetsofa · 26/05/2023 09:31

One in the morning and one at lunchtime. The rest of the time, it’s water.

maranella · 26/05/2023 09:32

Five would be too much for me, but it depends on the coffee and the person. Are you drinking espresso or something quite strong, or are you having instant, which IMO is like gnat's piss?

I have one mid-morning - any more than that I'm climbing the walls - but my DH drinks coffee all day.

FourFoxSake · 26/05/2023 09:32

1-2 in the morning.

HarryBlaster · 26/05/2023 09:32

I have 3-4. I love coffee. I’ve normally had my first two before 8am.

KimberleyClark · 26/05/2023 09:39

Two or three cups per week. Mostly tea drinker.

caughtinamess · 26/05/2023 09:41

Always one when I wake up.
If early for work I'll have another there.
Another at lunch
And one or two in the evening when I'm home.

When I'm at home all day maybe 3

SnoffeeCob · 26/05/2023 09:51

Its strong black brewed coffee if that makes a difference. I sleep well but have noticed lately my mind feels "on" all the time. Could be any manner of things I suppose, but was wondering if it could be down to my caffeine intake 🤷🏻‍♀️

I don't think it's an excessive amount, but I've cut right down. I now only have caffeine upon waking, 2 or 3 cups of tea or coffee. Occasionally if I'm having a lunch out then I'll have an iced coffee.

Lcb123 · 26/05/2023 09:59

I have 2 in the morning but recently one of those is decaf as trying to cut down whilst TTC

Bluebells1970 · 26/05/2023 10:03

2 in the morning - 1 with breakfast, and then a decaff one for the journey to work in my travel mug.

At the weekend, I'll have one mid afternoon but again that's decaff. I've got a Sage Nespresso and could drink from it all day but stop myself!

It does make a difference as instant coffee is often much weaker. One teaspoon of instant coffee can contain between 30-90mg of caffeine, whilst a cup of ground coffee can contain 70-140mg (and if you have it strong it's probably on the upper end of that).

The recommended daily intake is around 400mg, so I guess do the maths but I think you're on the higher end.

jay55 · 26/05/2023 10:11

On a work from home day one cup in the morning.
Work in the office day 3 cups, and maybe one from the work machine.
Weekend one or two if I'm out and about.
