How much coffee do you drink in a day?

I have 2 or 3 cups in the first hour I wake up, one mid morning, and occasionally one of an evening.

Do you think this is a normal ammount or is it excessive and I should look at cutting back?

@peachicecream That's really helpful. Thank you. I'm firmly in the upper end or possibly above the recommended amount

Sounds like a lot to me, but there again, I don't drink hot drinks apart from a green tea maybe once a month.

Yeah, I was similar to you as well. I cut down to a maximum of 3 cups and never after 3pm and it has helped my brain feel less "on" all the time.

I also do a 50/50 mix with decaf and that works well. (Cafe Direct Machu Picchu is a good decaf... mixed with my regular ground coffee I can't even tell there's decaf in there! And I'm very fussy about coffee!)

1-2 and nothing else caffeinated, my tea is decaf and I don’t drink fizzy caffeinated drinks.

Yours doesn’t sound excessive in the main but if you are concerned about or discomfited by that ‘on’ sensation then cutting a couple out might help.

SnoffeeCob · 26/05/2023 10:54

@peachicecream Ooh thank you for the suggestion. I'll pick a pack up from sainsburys on my way back from work 😁

1 (strong as fuck) early morning.

species5618 · 26/05/2023 11:41

This isn't a stealth boast but until last year I was drinking about 15 cups a day after I retired.

I've cut down to 10 or so a day which has reduced returned my blood pressure to a more accepable level. Probably a good job I don't do drugs really.

Iliketulips · 26/05/2023 11:41

I have one coffee around mid morning. I start off the day with a fruit herbal tea (after a glass of water) and usually have one cup of tea in the afternoon. Otherwise, it's water (and to a lesser extent - wine😅).

TinaYouFatLard · 26/05/2023 11:43

None - but I can guzzle up to five cups of tea in the morning.

GoalShooter · 26/05/2023 11:45

One cup in the morning, occasionally two. I drink too much diet coke though!

Jackienory · 26/05/2023 11:48

At least 5/6 cups of Colombian industrial strength on a night shift.

DragonbornMum · 26/05/2023 12:05

One large mug every morning for me. Green tea in the evening

icebearforpresident · 26/05/2023 12:27

Probably 5 cups of instant while at work. It can be more depending on who else is in the office, if i’m in on my own I drink way more. Once I’m home I switch to tea, 1 cup in the morning and usually 2 over the evening.

Over the weekend I will have a latte while the kids are at their swimming lessons but drink tea at home. Often 8-10 cups a day.

I’m naturally a night owl even without the caffeine but sleep absolutely fine.

InDubiousBattle · 26/05/2023 12:33

Two cups a day , one hot, flavoured coffee and an iced coffee that's probably dreadful for me. I have decaff tea, cordial or peppermint tea for the rest of the day so not too much caffeine.

Beezknees · 26/05/2023 12:33

2 cups usually. One in the morning and one around 3pm when I'm flagging at work. I drink green tea first thing when I wake up and camomile tea last thing before bed.

Daisiesandprimroses · 26/05/2023 12:38

I now limit myself to one large strong one in the morning, instead of 2, and I avoid caffeine for the rest of the day , inc drinks like Diet Coke, which I drunk a lot of, I feel I sleep much better and I feel much better. However it took me a week or so to wean myself off and I had headaches when I did, now I feel so much better. I’d advise cutting down or going decaf.

mumonthehill · 26/05/2023 12:44

2 first thing and 1 at 10 but they are strong. Sometimes i have 1 in the afternoon but never in the evening. I have a cup of tea about 8pm though.

SirChenjins · 26/05/2023 12:46

One cup of decaf in the morning. I used to love my morning coffee full of caf but it was playing havoc with my stomach and making me shaky, so no more sadly. No caffeine elsewhere either.

uncomfortablydumb53 · 26/05/2023 12:48

6 pints( Nescafé Azera)

Lonelycrab · 26/05/2023 12:49

One cafetière with about an inch of coffee, around 2 or 3 mugs worth. Drink it black no sugar. Occasionally have another mug before the school run in the afternoon. Never after about 4pm as it keeps me awake too late.

SnaccidentsHappen · 26/05/2023 12:50

I've had 2 iced lattes so far, both with 2 shots of espresso

That's interesting. Other than your sleep, what other benefits have you noticed? I'm going to try half and half like another poster suggested and see if that makes a difference in how I feel.

One cup a day in the morning . sometimes none at all

lostinfusion · 26/05/2023 13:45

1-2 decaff coffee's a day. I really really miss proper coffee since giving up caffeine 2 years ago (heart issues)

AlisonDonut · 26/05/2023 13:47

We have our main meal at 2pm and a coffee in the morning and one after our main meal.

I'm not allowed any after 5 pm or I won't sleep. And then I'm even grumpier than usual the next day.
