How much coffee do you drink in a day?

I have 2 or 3 cups in the first hour I wake up, one mid morning, and occasionally one of an evening.

Do you think this is a normal ammount or is it excessive and I should look at cutting back?

About 2 cups of coffee, but I drink gallons of tea.

FuzzyCaoraDhubh · 26/05/2023 14:00

One tea, one coffee then green/herbal tea after that. Trying to cut down on caffeine. It's not as hard as I thought.

orangeflags · 26/05/2023 19:10

One caffeinated cup first thing and from then on only decaf.

I've lately instigated a 'no caffeine after midday' rule which has improved the quality of my sleep.

Why are people trying to cut down on coffee/caffeine? Is it because it's having bad effects on you personally or do you think it's bad in general (spoiler, it's not).

DiscoBeat · 26/05/2023 19:16

3 (strong cafetière) coffees every morning. Probably should cut it down though.

blahblahblah1654 · 26/05/2023 19:16

None. I used to drink gallons of tea a day but it gave me awful restless leg syndrome. I now have 1 caffeinated tea in the morning and water and decaf tea for the rest of the day.

I heavily reduced my caffeine and my restless leg syndrome stopped. It definitely had a negative effect on me!

1 cup at work, so 4 days a week. I do have 1 cup of tea every morning about 6:30 too.

mdinbc · 26/05/2023 19:22

Usually 2 a day, early and mid-morning but on weekends I will have a latte mid-afternoon as well. I used to make a latte after dinner, but have stopped.

One thing people should be aware of is the size of their coffees. My co-workers come in with huge Starbucks or take-out coffees that are about 3 servings worth, and then do it again after work. Essentially they are drinking about 6 cups a day. but counting it as 2.

jojojoooo · 26/05/2023 22:01

2-3 really strong ones in the morning. Black as I'm doing intermittent fasting but then I have one with milk in the afternoon as a treat 😂

Clocloxx · 27/06/2024 09:18

I used to drink a pot of strong brewed coffee every morning for years but I found it started making my anxiety bad and i also started to ttc so I cut back to 1 or 2 cups a days from a expresso machine. I find if I have a 3rd cup ill get awful anxiety

Mayhemmumma · 27/06/2024 09:21

1 or 2 - morning and early afternoon.
Did give up caffeine for a while as it was heightening my anxiety but I'm tired! Mostly drink herbal tea or occasional proper tea.

bananaphon · 27/06/2024 09:21

1 or 2 at the most. It sends my blood pressure and heart rate through the roof so I stick to 1 or 2 teas a day unless I'm really tired. I'm super sensitive to caffeine. If I have any last lunchtime it really affects my sleep and gives me restless legs.

Devilsmommy · 27/06/2024 09:42

I do drink 25 -30 teas and coffees a day. I basically run on caffeine 😅 am on my 7/8th already 🤭

mewkins · 27/06/2024 10:29

Two cups max. One between 8-9 and one around lunchtime. Latest I'd drink coffee is 4pm

IncompleteSenten · 27/06/2024 10:34

I have one massive mug (3 or 4 teaspoons of coffee in a pint mug) when I wake up then usually switch to decaf for the rest of the day and will have 6 or 7.
I used to have them all caffeinated but switched to decaf hoping it would help cure my insomnia. (Nope.)

Iliketulips · 27/06/2024 10:42

If you drink plenty of water and sleep well, I guess it suits you.

I tend to have a coffee around 10am (somehow got into the habit of having a glass of water first thing, then a herbal tea around 30mins later). Sometimes a latte if I'm out for a treat in the afternoon.

SpirallingMum · 27/06/2024 10:43

Only one coffee a day here (usually late morning) - a glorious proper strong flat white.
And a few big mugs of tea.
But generally all before about 4 or 5pm. I don't notice any negative effects from caffein but don't sleep well at the best of times so avoid in the late afternoon / evening just in case.

Killingoffmyflowersonebyone · 27/06/2024 10:48

6-7 at home. I have a Jura E8 at home which, whilst amazing, makes very strong coffee because of the beans I use. When I go into the office (London) I have 4-5 Pret coffees before 2pm.

I probably should look at cutting down. But I'm very healthy in every other way and, quite frankly, am 'worse than Satan' (according to friends and family) without coffee.

NoSnowdrop · 27/06/2024 10:51

2 cups decaf with occasionally a 3rd one in the afternoon. I don’t drink coffee later in the day generally, nothing to do with caffeine.

for some reason I cannot explain I don’t tend to have hot drinks in the evening unless it’s a night time herbal tea.

KohlaParasaurus · 27/06/2024 10:52

Three mugfuls of black coffee in the morning with breakfast and another six or so throughout the day, none of it very strong, and switching to decaf after lunchtime.

Stressedgiraffe · 27/06/2024 11:00

I have adhd so coffee calms me down.
I drink 4/5 nespresso in the morning out of habit then water after 12.
But if I can't sleep I'll have a coffee to help send me off to sleep

andymary · 27/06/2024 12:13

Almost similar to you.

2 Cups First Thing
1 Cup Around 9-10am
1 Cup Around 11am
Final Cup at Around 1-2pm

I try not to have anymore caffeine after 2pm so that it's flushed out by bedtime :)

But I also drink 4x 500ml bottles of water throughout the day as well, so it's not just coffee.

Anonym00se · 27/06/2024 12:18

One when I wake up, one during Popmaster at 10.30, and one mid afternoon. Plus one decaf in the evening. I’m a creature of habit.
