About 2 days ago I discovered that Skegness isn’t in Scotland 😳 How did I never know this before? Embarrassingly, I’m 38 😂

Lol that's so kind of you to give me an easy excuse for getting it wrong @KirstenBlest :-D

In return, i'd posit that it was Carly Simons' American accent that caused you to mishear the lyrics. :-D 😇

My own misheard lyric is from There Must Be An Angel by Eurythmics. The lyric is " I'm thrown and overblown with bliss " .
I always hear it as, ' overgrown with fleas. ' :-/

Didn't Peter Kaye used to do a lot of misheard lyrics?

As a child I grew up thinking that the piece of furniture you stored your clothes in was called a “chester draws” … it wasn’t until my 20’s when I went to university and most people where distinctly posher that I realised it meant “a chest of draws” 🙄

Sorry to tell you; still wrong. It's chest of drawers......

Oh and Saran wrap (American brand of cling film) I thought was 'surround wrap' for ages. Because, well.

I thought it was Serrang wrap until about 15 seconds ago!

Billericay is definitely in Ireland...isn't it? 🤔

It is in Essex. Not that far from where I live. It is in the South East of England.

For the Pontefract posters, check out ''30 east drive'' . Its in West yorkshire. Skeg Vegas as we call it is at the East coast of Lincolnshire.
It was a few years ago when I use to think it was Hot Dog, jumping ''from'' Alberqueue. But no, its jumping frog.

I thought it was hot dog, jumping frog, have a cookie until last year

LaMaG · 25/05/2023 22:33

In 80s around age 10 my teacher was doing a geography lesson and a v bright student asked her something about the iron curtain. She totally ridiculed the child telling her to stop being so silly there are no curtains etc. I've often thought of that woman and wondered when she had her d'oh moment

Fink · 25/05/2023 22:35

KirstenBlest · 25/05/2023 22:23

@Fink , but surely you'd know that where your wee comes out of and where your period comes out of weren't the same?
Thy might have been academically intelligent but were they completely uncurious about their own body?

You're asking the wrong person. I do know that, and I can't remember whether I first learned it academically or naturally. I have no idea how other adult women haven't yet figured it out. I have an in-law who's a gay woman and is still pretty clueless about some of this stuff. I tried to persuade her on the Three Holes Theory 😄, but she's a bit squeamish about talking about it. She grew up in care and maybe never had an adult woman she could talk to about it while she was growing up, but she's since slept & lived with enough other women that you'd think the penny would have dropped.

I had no idea that Brunei was in Borneo - I had always assumed it was in the Middle East somewhere.

Whaaat?! Never knew this!

KirstenBlest · 25/05/2023 22:38

@Fink , Grin. Sacha Distel was on the telly fairly often in the 1970s
You danced like Zizi Jeanmaire!
It reminds me of the local radio station, and the sort of songs they played, Stay in your own back yard, In my Liverpool home, Ferry 'cross the Mersey and that one.

Oh Gawd, I've just listened to Where do you go to my lovely and it's brought back so many memories Grin

That post menopause as well as your fanny drying up faster than the Horn of Africa and your eyes doing the same - your pubes also disappear . I’ve gone from a Kate Bush bush to a Prince William seemingly overnight. And my flaps have grown so quickly I reckon I could easily park a Mini Cooper in there without any lube whatsoever

🤣😅🤣😅🤣😅🤣

And Feverly Hills 🤣🤣

Called Fev is Shit in this house, because for years that’s what someone wrote on the sign for the town amd no one cleaned it off.

Waterbottleallthetime · 25/05/2023 22:42

I’m Lovin this thread! Haven’t laughed so much for ages 😂😂😂

Mamanyt · 25/05/2023 22:42

I just learned a few days ago, sometime last week, that there is a town in New Foundland, Canada, named "Dildo." It is on the shore of Conception Bay. Wouldn't those two cancel each other out?

KirstenBlest · 25/05/2023 22:44

@Fink , what I learnt about menstruation was from other kids and from having animals, not from an adult woman meaning you, MummyBlest
We got the 'period talk' in the first year of secondary school.
Jackie magazine was pretty helpful.
I can remember being about 13 and thinking I'd probably get some tampons in case I started getting periods.

kazlau · 25/05/2023 22:45

I was blown away when I found that out a few years ago. As a fellow Glaswegian I feel your pain.

PickNewName · 25/05/2023 22:46

Wigan Pier isn’t a lovely seaside wooden structure to sit and eat fish and chips on. We actually drove round for ages before Google informed us Wigan is nowhere near the shore.

Puzzledandpissedoff · 25/05/2023 22:47

My friend for years thought that when you go on holiday there is a separate plane that takes the bags and when we were waiting for the bags to arrive she said the bags plane might not have landed yet

Remimnds me of my mad cousin, who thought they dim aircraft cabin lights before landing so as noto to disturb people on the ground Confused Grin

Fink · 25/05/2023 22:00

While we're on You're So Vain, does anyone know what it is he flew up to Nova Scotia? I always thought it was 'your living', maybe meaning all his family and entourage, but it doesn't make much sense.

It was his Learjet.

I didn't know it was 'gavotte' either. And I once thought his scarf it was African.

I blame Carly Simon myself. Especially for 'gavotte' ending with an 'i' sound.

PickNewName · 25/05/2023 22:48

TBC, we were just driving through the area and saw the Wigan Pier sign so set off to find it.

After having total embarrassed rage at the petrol station pump, including doing reasonable paint/panel damage by trying to wedge it open with my car key, I learned latterly that my petrol cap locked automatically on the central locking of my new company car, and that no amount of shoving or jemmying was going to open it.

I had 4 miles left in it so had to be 'recovered' as not enough fuel to drive it either home or to a garage to be 'fixed'.

I have never felt so foolish in my actual life when the recovery guy turned up.

The shame.

I've done this. Drove home ina rahe to be laughed at by DH

KirstenBlest · 25/05/2023 22:50

I think I learnt about lear jets from Pink Floyd's Money

That Bristol isn't a county it's in Devon. Admittedly my geography skills aren't brilliant though

Bristol is definitely not in Devon
