Apparently most people have 6 meals they make on a loop? How about you?

Some random study I read.

It's probably about right..

stirfry
fajitas
a roast of some kind (not every week)
salmon and veg
sea bass with veg
fishfingers chips and peas (or similar)
a curry - usually prawn.

I am not one of them!

Cameraduck · 24/05/2023 11:14

I’m surprised it’s as many as 8! But most of the time that’s us yes

Lcb123 · 24/05/2023 11:14

I'm not either! I do batch cook and freeze. Probably repeat a meal once a fortnight.

Nope we don't have the same meal 2 weeks in a row at least.

SweetPetrichor · 24/05/2023 11:16

Cottage pie
Chicken chilli
Some form of curry
Spag bolognaise
Chicken pie
Some form of marinated chicken wraps
Fajitas

…so, yeah, seems to apply to us. Tried and tested recipes!

InDubiousBattle · 24/05/2023 11:17

Probably broadly right, maybe nearer 9-10. Not exact meals but we largely have a roast, a stir fry, a pasta dish, fish&something, fajitas/wraps in an average week but not the same pasta, fish etc IYSWIM. Different for winter and summer too. In my dhs family they had the same 7 meals on rotation every week for his entire childhood.

Noicant · 24/05/2023 11:17

Yup but that’s mainly because my 3yr old is fussy and I’m not cooking 2 meals

SweetPetrichor · 24/05/2023 11:18

Although I suppose when I say we have these recipes on a loop, I mean I batch cook them, usually a few a week and I eat them through the week. I don’t care if my meal is the same 2 days in a row, as long as it’s tasty!

midgemadgemodge · 24/05/2023 11:19

Depends - you have stir fry as an example - but we have different types of stir fry - nut, prawn, tofu, different sauces , noodles or rice - so that's quite a lot of variation within a "stir fry "

Fiddlededeefiddlededoh · 24/05/2023 11:21

I’d say 14 ish here. It does get boring but it is so much more convenient.

midgemadgemodge · 24/05/2023 11:21

Curry - prawn tomatoe and cardamom or quite different from the chickpea and coconut one

FourTeaFallOut · 24/05/2023 11:21

Yeah, that's about right for us. We go through phases of expanding the menu but inevitably return to the default meals the moment that life gets busy again.

HatchetJob · 24/05/2023 11:22

We have the same meal on a Friday (pasta) I mix everything else up and don’t have something for at least 2 weeks. I find I can go off things (I can’t eat fajitas anymore due to DHs obsession of having them at least once a week for a year).
I have about 20 things I rotate. Few things we have once a month.

WellTidy · 24/05/2023 11:22

I have 17 dinners. I know this, as we were strictly meal planning during the first lockdown. Off the top of my head;

Lasagne
bolognese
chilli
cottage pie
chicken korma
thai green chicken curry
chicken katsu
chicken korma
harissa chicken and peppers traybake
keralan prawn curry
tandoori salmon
Thai cod and salmon fishcakes
lemon, chilli and prawn linguine
gnocchi, ham hock and crème fraiche
pasta, pesto and bacon
traditional roast

plus one other that I can’t remember!

Kyse23 · 24/05/2023 11:23

I batch cook and freeze plus easy meals
I guess it depends if you count say a cottage pie and a fish pie as the "same"

Jacket potatoes
Omelettes
Salad variations
Potato topped pie (but like 5 variations of this!)
Sausage and mash
Pasta bake
Beef stew
Beige freezer tea (is that cooking?!)
Egg fried rice/stir fry

WellTidy · 24/05/2023 11:23

I’ve remembered! Pizzas.

Wombastic · 24/05/2023 11:24

Probably about ten. Thanks to facebook reels we are having sticky chicken and rice tonight

rogueone · 24/05/2023 11:24

Hmm I have a few staples as the kids like them which are

lasagne
bolognaise
butter chicken curry
fish and chips and tartare sauce
cauliflower cheese and cooked ham
pasta , cherry tomatoes, asparagus, bacon bits
Chinese chicken and egg fried rice
stir fry
homemade burgers
chorizo, lentil and potato soup
mushroom
risotto
roast
chicken parmo

but I do like finding new recipes every week as I enjoy cooking

helpfulperson · 24/05/2023 11:24

Totally me.
Pizza
Goats cheese and asparagus risotto
Beef fajitas
Pasta carbonara
Mushroom stroganoff

I would say those 5 are about 80 % of the meals I make. But I'm just cooking for myself

Itisyourturntowashthebath · 24/05/2023 11:25

I made a paella last week and was quite shocked to realise that I probably hadn't made one for a year or so.

Curry - do people make exactly the same one each week or do they make different ones?

DiscoBeat · 24/05/2023 11:27

I'd say top six (although they are often slightly varied) are:

  1. Salmon and garlicky roast new potatoes
  2. Roast vegetable Traybake with either halloumi or sausages.
  3. Vegetable omelette and salad
  4. Roast chicken (any accompaniment - rice and salad or roast potatoes)
  5. Lamb ragu
  6. Mixture of curries - dal, vegetable and chicken.
So much so that I automatically put these ingredients into the trolley every week. I really need to change it up!
Coaltitmum · 24/05/2023 11:27

We have jacket potatoes once a week but its to help use up what's in the fridge so it's not "jacket potatoes and tuna mayo" every week

More like
chorizo and three bean salad
Or tuna mayo
Left over veggie chilli
Beans and cheese
Brie and bacon
Mushrooms and chorizo

That sort of thing

ArcticBells · 24/05/2023 11:29

I'm on my own and have about 3 or 4 BlushGrin

We do that too, even a little bit of leftover curry makes a nice lunch with a baked potato for the two of us next day.
