Apparently most people have 6 meals they make on a loop? How about you?

Some random study I read.

It's probably about right..

stirfry
fajitas
a roast of some kind (not every week)
salmon and veg
sea bass with veg
fishfingers chips and peas (or similar)
a curry - usually prawn.

An excellent thing I've found which is reasonably priced to jazz it up a bit and get out of a rut is Simply Cook. You only get the spices/pastes etc delivered but they're all simple instructions, healthy ish and always quick to make. I have never had one we didn't all enjoy. 👌🏽

MIL used to make the same seven meals every week, with the same meal on the same night. Zero variation.

When I was a kid it was mainly meat, pots & veg meals with the occasional spaghetti bolognese.

Fish on a Friday.

I still do that tbh-at least that's one say a week sorted out!

110APiccadilly · 24/05/2023 13:19

I think we probably have about 14, but that's with both of us cooking regularly, so per person it's 7 I suppose (though there are things either of us will cook as well as things that are our specialty).

CornishGem1975 · 24/05/2023 13:22

God no, I love to cook and I probably make at least 2-3 new recipes a week!

Catspyjamas17 · 24/05/2023 13:22

I have probably about 25-30. I used to meal plan a lot more and try new recipes though and have many meal lists written down which I now refer to and rotate when I've been too repetitive.

maddiemookins16mum · 24/05/2023 13:22

Yep me too.
Usually consists of
Sweet and sour pork
Chicken curry
Sausage and mash
Salmon and rice
Something bolognaisey
Something beige with chips
and
a Sunday roast.

declutteringmymind · 24/05/2023 13:24

I have six weekly meal plans on rotation. Obviously I tweak them to suit our needs but I made them wheny eldest was a baby and still use them 12 years on. Some of the dishes have been replaced but they save so much thinking and deliberating.

DRS1970 · 24/05/2023 13:25

We have a 6 week menu loop. This keeps it a bit more varied.

GidgetGirl · 24/05/2023 13:31

The thought of meal planning makes me want to scream and run to the hills which I know is a failing as it's a great way to save time and money. Particularly when we have a relatively standard loop of meals (although they're picked at random depending on what we fancy each day!).

Egg fried rice, veg & crabstick stir fry
Fajitas (usually Quorn)
Salmon or smoked mackerel with salad and new potatoes
Ovenfish (i.e. frozen fish, chips & peas)
Curry (usually karahi), rice and naan
Veggie burger in a bun with sweet potato wedges and salad
Pasta bake (v. lazy meal but nice)
Falafel wraps and salad

Actually writing this out makes it all sound really bloody boring.

@declutteringmymind love your username! Could we see a copy of the 6 week meal plan at all please

WimbyAce · 24/05/2023 13:35

Yes we have a similar weekly menu. Alternate a roast on a Sunday. We are both q picky so have limited options.

Dermadirj · 24/05/2023 13:37

Ours are:

Bolognese
Chicken rice tray bake
Gnocchi, tomato and feta traybake
Aubergine pasta
Saag paneer
Chicken curry
Beef pilou
Salmon and wedges
Beef stir fry
Pearl barley, squash, feta and chicken

tealandteal · 24/05/2023 13:37

We have a two week menu which covers the working week, and then weekends I make something different each week.

ZoeQ90 · 24/05/2023 13:38

We tend to organise by carb so each week will include a dish based on rice, noodles, potato, pasta and pastry, as well as a roast and a takeaway/fakeaway. But there's lots of variety within those, potato could be sausage and mash, a tray bake, shepherd's pie, moussaka. Pasta could be meatballs, bigger, lasagne, carbonara etc.

icebearforpresident · 24/05/2023 13:50

Sounds about right

chilli / bolognaise
chicken fajitas
some pasta thing my husband makes with sausage meat
meatballs
frozen pizza Friday
curry - sometimes from scratch, sometimes from a jar

I occasionally sign up to Hello Fresh for new ideas which do make it into the rotation for a while but inevitably fall out again.

Carouselfish · 24/05/2023 13:50

Hmm..Going to count them...

We've got about 16 on rotation. Quite good considering pescetarian and moderately fussy DD. Would be more if just me!

Codlingmoths · 24/05/2023 13:52

We would have lots, but I guess a few come around a lot more than others.
pumpkin soup (the kids eat it)
baked potatoes tuna and cheese (again, the kids eat it)
stirfry
spaghetti bolognese
spaghetti with tomato vegetable sauce
red Thai fish curry
tacos
beef casserole
omelette
pasta with veg sauce
ravioli and bought sauce

in the last week we have had eggplant parmigiana and lamb cutlets with whole roast cauliflower so we do vary it a little!

Silkierabbit · 24/05/2023 13:53

Regular meals we have
Roast though meat will vary and veg can vary
Fajitas
Steak in red wine sauce with new potatoes and asparagus / veg
Paella
Aligot
Sausage, mash and veg
Salmon, new potatoes and veg
Fish, chips and beans
Curry - veg korma and rice and peshwari naan
Chinese
Pancakes or pasque joue (little pancakes with spring onion and bacon) and salad
Salad, often chicken, avocado, sweetcorn, spring onion, carrot, lettuce or smoked salmon, new potatoes minted and lettuce, pickled gherkins
Thai massaman with veg and sticky rice
Ploughmans with salmon, cheese
Spaghetti bolonese / pasta
Broccoli and cheese potato bake
Jacket potatoes
Homemade soups with chunky bread and butter
Seabass, veg and potatoes
Normandy pork, veg and potatoes

Yes its more than 6 here

Runnersandtoms · 24/05/2023 13:56

Off the top of my head we have about 17 meals we eat regularly but there are also frequent variations on these eg different versions of chicken with flavouring, other types of potato, other types of pasta dish. I still feel like we eat the same stuff all the time so it would drive me mad if it was only six meals in rotation!

Spaghetti bolognaise
Chili
Fajitas
Curry
Stirfry
Burgers and chips
Salmon and rice
Kedgeree
Egg fried Rice with prawns/ham/bacon etc
Fish and chips
Roast dinner
Chicken wrapped in bacon, cauliflower cheese, potatoes
Sausage and mash
Couscous with chicken
Pasta carbonara
Pasta pesto
Macaroni cheese

GiltEdges · 24/05/2023 14:01

Not us, although it used to be. That's why we went back to Gousto, as it gives us so much more variety in a convenient way. Breakfasts and lunches are very much the same day in day out though.

RoseRobot · 24/05/2023 14:02

Mine are more than six, thinking about it:
spag bol
chilli con carne with rice
penne all'arrabiata
pasta pomodoro
home made pizza
tortilla wraps with smoky chilli beef or chicken, guac, salad and sour cream
macaroni and cauliflower cheese
sweet chilli and soy baked salmon with rice or noodles and veg
herby chicken tray bake with baby jacket potatoes and roast veg
spicy chicken traybake with spiced rice and veg
chicken and mushroom risotto
asparagus and pea risotto
chorizo and chickpea smoky paella
beef casserole with dumplings
venison casserole with rice
smoky goulash with mash or those tiny noodles
veggie curry with spinach dahl and rice
hairy bikers beef curry with rice
aromatic fried white fish with herb rice
home made pork burgers with apple and fennel
roast chicken dinner
middle eastern roast lamb with spiced rice or couscous
rosemary and garlic roast lamb with roasties and veg
roast pork with roasties and veg
chicken barley casserole
mediterranean roast veg with herby couscous
greek salad with crusty bread and watermelon
gnocchi and mozzarella bake with fresh basil and tomatoes
frittata with salad

I could make any of those without thinking about it or checking a recipe book. I'd be happy to eat versions of those for the rest of my life. But DH loves all the new weird flavour blends and insists on more variety.

tailinthejam · 24/05/2023 14:05

I have way more than 6 for just Sunday dinners alone!

Roast beef, yorkshires etc
Chicken portions
Pork chops/steaks
Casserole of some sort
Steak, chicken or turkey & ham pie
Gammon
Leg of lamb with garlic and rosemary
Roast chicken with Moroccan spices
Roast turkey
Roast pork shoulder & crackling

With the roasts we can have roast potatoes, new potatoes, mash, jackets, a thing I do with little potato squares with herbs and whatnot, rice or couscous, and any number of different combinations of vegetables. I also have quite a stuffing repertoire.

declutteringmymind · 24/05/2023 14:07

I'll write it out when I get home. It's really boring.
