I just ate a delicious orange, and I found myself wondering "How can people not like oranges? They are practically perfect in every way" although I'm the only person in my house that likes them. They all like bananas though, the weirdos! What food do you feel like that about? Not a meal (although Dan Dan Noodles....." but a single food item.

I love a good orange! I read somewhere that oranges were no longer popular because of the effort involved in peeling them!

PuttingDownRoots · 24/05/2023 08:22

My husband and daughter don't like tomatoes.

The same daughter won't eat cake that has been tarnished with a mere smidgeon of jam. Which is actually quite awkward for birthday parties etc.

Proper oranges are a funny one. They really are delicious, but so much faff to get into that we are not good at using them and stop buying them. We are going through a family phase of them now though. I cut them into wedges for the kids.

In our house it's avocado and coffee.

EvilElsa · 24/05/2023 08:26

Love an orange. I like cutting them with the peel on best rather than peeling them first.
Hate bananas! The texture makes me feel nauseous. Dh hates mashed potato which blows my mind as it's a food of the gods. He's the only person I know who hates it. This is a man who would eat tuna on crumpets though 🤮

GalileoHumpkins · 24/05/2023 08:31

A slightly under ripe banana is absolutely delicious. Celery is Satan's vegetable 😫

AffIt · 24/05/2023 09:04

Mushrooms.

I think mushrooms are brilliant, definitely my 'Desert Island food'. However, there are loads of people out there who don't just dislike mushrooms, but physically loathe them.

(In saying that, I feel the same way about okra.)

Alltheusernamesaretakennow · 24/05/2023 09:07

I love oranges but DH never eats them, as he thinks they are full of pips! Having said that, it's not always easy to find juicy ones

coffeecupsandwaxmelts · 24/05/2023 09:08

Some oranges are sweet and juicy, some are sour and have lots of stringy bits. I don't like the unpredictability of it.

The same applies to most fruits - you can never be sure that they'll taste nice or have a decent texture. Bananas in particular really make me gag 😂

Roselilly36 · 24/05/2023 09:11

My DS1 loves oranges, he will often pop into the co-op for a bag if there aren’t any in the fruit bowl.

MagpiePi · 24/05/2023 09:12

A ripe alphonse mango can't be beaten, although I had a peach in Italy that was pretty amazing.

Any fruit that is properly ripe and has the right flavour, not just a generic sweetness that you get with mass produced stuff.

beguilingeyes · 24/05/2023 09:12

I agree about bananas, it's the texture. Put them in a cake and I'm ok with it.
My husband won't eat tomatoes.
It always blows my mind when people don't like chocolate.

GloomySkies · 24/05/2023 09:13

I love a good orange. I'm not put off by the effort of peeling them in itself, but the crushing disappointment of peeling them to discover you've got a shit one. At least kitkats are consistent.

waterlego · 24/05/2023 09:13

My husband doesn’t like cheese which I can’t really make sense of. It’s cheese!

WeaselKingHenry · 24/05/2023 09:18

How can people not like porridge made with water not milk, and salt not sugar - appeals to my inner puritan!

BigglyBee · 24/05/2023 09:19

I genuinely can't understand why anyone wouldn't love pickled onions.

Yes! The beauty of a chopped, underripe, green banana in porridge has totally taken me by surprise. It’s a bowel cancer fighter too… anti inflammatory… good stuff.

SaladRooney · 24/05/2023 09:24

I'm a fiend for blood oranges. The short season, the fabulous streaks of colour, the sharpness... I have been known to eat ten or fifteen a day. It's probably just as well the deason is so short.

NowZeusHasLainWithLeda · 24/05/2023 09:25

What about pears? Food of Satan.
A 5 minute window when they're vaguely edible if you try and ignore the stringy bits. Before that crucial 5 minutes they need you leaving dental surgery, and afterwards you need a glass to drink the brown slush from.

Bluevelvetsofa · 24/05/2023 09:27

I like the flavour of oranges, but too often, what looks like a delicious juicy orange has turned out to be dry and pithy.

The texture of bananas is an abomination, as is that of mushrooms.

3luckystars · 24/05/2023 09:28

I absolutely love oranges and the smell of them too but I’m allergic to them. Not highly allergic but the the skin on the roof of my mouth peels off and I get hives. I would be eating them all day long otherwise! Amazing perfect things. Juice and food in one item.
did you know, no word rhymes with orange.

Mumoftwoboysaged4and5 · 24/05/2023 09:29

Crunchy peanut butter. I eat it with everything, on toast, porridge, in brownies, it’s the food of the gods. No one else in my family likes it though 😱

3luckystars · 24/05/2023 09:32

@beguilingeyes people that don’t like chocolate ? There is no such thing!

I’m the same. I think this is why I’m a fruit avoider. It’s too much uncertainty whether it will be lush or gross.
