I’ve been trying to work something out and just wondered - what sort of job/career makes that’s sort of amount (5k per month / £60k per year actual take home amount)

Sales, especially with a residual trail. I haven't earnt less than £7,000 a week since I was 23

I call BS unless you are prepared to tell us which area of sales it is.

QueenofallIsee · 23/05/2023 22:06

I take home just over that after tax and pension deductions. I am in IT

Kate0902900908 · 23/05/2023 22:06

He'll take home more than 5k after tax per month if he's on 125

I know, that's why I said at least. He can afford a 2.5k mortgage, 1.5k rent plus bills on 2 places. Plus expensive solicitors fees. He's taking way over 5k home. The 5k was what came up in a conversation on bills.

Quisquam · 23/05/2023 22:11

Qualified accountant in the profession.

dozydoo · 23/05/2023 22:12

Dh is a kitchen fitter & is on more than that

kirinm · 23/05/2023 22:12

You'd need to earn about £100k gross go take home £5k per month. Law, tech, finance.

MarsDestroyerOfWorlds · 23/05/2023 22:16

Engineer.

Codlingmoths · 23/05/2023 22:17

IamSlave · 23/05/2023 22:19

@Arewehumanorarewecupboards

It depends. I've not read all the pages of the thread or what skills they have.
I know someone with a speficic music skill who made it very big.
It did take a long time but they didn't have a levels nor gcse

Blandfan · 23/05/2023 22:20

Little bit less and I’m a marketing director. Little bit more and partner is a civil servant

If you don’t mind me asking, what area of IT are you in? Ignore me if you’d rather not say!

QueenofallIsee · 23/05/2023 22:23

I am in IT security but have historically also been in Service delivery type roles. I am
a senior manager but not C suite level.

You do realise that you need to pay tax and NI...? You need a pre tax salary of around 100k. Thread would suggest you might need to lower your expectations a little...ahem.

Why oh why can’t you read? The first 5 posts would have told you all you need to know!
just don’t understand people who come on without properly reading the OP!

Fedupdoc · 23/05/2023 22:25

GP. Clear just over £5k after tax, pension and student loan
gross is around £110k

Dibbydoos · 23/05/2023 22:25

£92k earns £5,017 if paying 4% pension contributions.

In my field only head of dept jobs earn that much so >10yrs exp post grad and chartering unless you opt to work in the financial or IT sector, then you will top £120k pa.

Hope this helps.

@lateSeptember1964 where are you earning 100k as a nurse...point me in that direction please, I'd love to!

Classic that the nurse gets questioned but not the bricklayer!

Plenty of band 9 nurses in corporate nhs jobs in London on £120k. Chief nurse salaries are higher still.

RisingSunn · 23/05/2023 22:41

Tech/Software sales.

RedRosette2023 · 23/05/2023 22:44

Are these people just hoping to roll out of bed and earn £100k fresh from being long term unemployed?

Sounds great.

Three individuals each earning £24,000 gross per year would take home - combined - £5,000 per month. With each taking advantage of their £12,500 tax free allowance.

As others have said, it should be perfectly doable for one adult to look after 2 toddlers while the other 2 work, and for all 3 to work around each other to avoid any childcare costs.

Finding three jobs which between them pay, on average, not much more than the living wage, sounds realistic.

Suggesting one adult out of a household of 3 walks into a full time job paying £90,000 gross with no skills or experience, is just ridiculous.

This is both useful and interesting

AngryBirdsNoMore · 23/05/2023 22:48

£90-100k is a senior civil servant salary. Director (SCS2) level.

Or experienced prison governor of a large prison

LookingforMaryPoppins · 23/05/2023 22:50

60k doesn't bring in a net income anywhere near 5k.

I am a solicitor and take home in excess of 5k per month - I am 25 years qualified and whilst work these days is fairly easy I did many years of horrendously long hours to get to where I am now. I also spent many years in debt qualifying...... I don't think there is any quick fix high income profession

Anyone else also had a dawning realisation that even if they got to the 'top' of their line of work, £5k would still be a leap 😂 to get that in teaching I think I'd have to be the headteacher of a big secondary school and not pay into the pension to have £5k in my pocket a month. 4 years at uni and 15 years in the job and I'm absolutely miles away from that, should I even want to be.

Lol yes I had the same realisation. Won’t be buying that million pound London shag pad any time soon!
