I’ve been trying to work something out and just wondered - what sort of job/career makes that’s sort of amount (5k per month / £60k per year actual take home amount)

My Dp brings home just over 5k a month and his salary is 102k

TheHandmaiden · 23/05/2023 19:27

Loving all the my husband earns stuff. More interesting to know what women earn, given relatively less likely to be a brickie or in the trades

My man is a bricklayer. He earns a bit more than that

I never would have realised that you could earn that much, is the training hard ?

Im supporting a family and we’ve been talking a lot about work / careers / training but I’m clueless as to what jobs have a good earning potential (3 adults in this family - parents and an adult child plus 2 toddlers so potentially 3 to train / work)

Solicitor.

My brother is in IT (coding) and his take-home is more than that.

ulcers · 23/05/2023 19:28

@TheHandmaiden I make minimum wage working a few hours a week in a school!

coverp · 23/05/2023 19:29

Gross salary needs to be £90-100k depending on pension arrangement. In my industry (wealth management), most professionals would be at least at that level once chartered and with c.10 years experience.

DelurkingAJ · 23/05/2023 19:29

Accountants, lawyers etc (so professional qualifications) but only in the right areas. So in the world I know that means financial services and being fully qualified.

Heavensalongwayaway · 23/05/2023 19:30

Hospital consultant /consultant in health protection

Wombastic · 23/05/2023 19:30

Tax us around 25% but on 60k would be more like 35-40%. So you have to factor that into your calculations. You would take home about 40k after tax which is about £3,333 per month.

I'm a Solicitor and bring home more than that, but for Solicitors it really depends on area of law/type of firm/geographical location/seniority whether you earn 30K or over a million per annum.

JaninaDuszejko · 23/05/2023 19:30

TheOP males clear she's talking about £60K take home pay. You'd need to earn £90K to take home £5K pcm, assuming no pension contributions.

Figures dont add up.
60k after tax etc wouldnt clear 5 k.

Op said 60k take home, 60k after tax ect.

homestartvolunteer · 23/05/2023 19:24

What would it be then ? If someone gets £5k per calendar month ? I’d just x12 !! Maybe that’s the wrong way to calculate it

You do realise that you need to pay tax and NI...? You need a pre tax salary of around 100k. Thread would suggest you might need to lower your expectations a little...ahem.

Goldrushed · 23/05/2023 19:31

For people who are misreading/misunderstanding, 60k per year is the net/after tax figure so 5k per month. Not the gross.

GoodChat · 23/05/2023 19:23

@UserABC12345 you forgot tax, NI etc

No I didn't. Re read the OP. The OP is asking for 60k take home. That's after everything. Which is 5k per month.

GoodChat · 23/05/2023 19:31

Are these 3 adults with no training or work experience OP?

Lizzt2007 · 23/05/2023 19:32

GoodChat · 23/05/2023 19:23

@UserABC12345 you forgot tax, NI etc

Op said £60k take home, so after tax ect has been deducted. You didn't read properly.

curtainsfringe · 23/05/2023 19:33

60k net is different to 60k gross...

UserABC12345 · 23/05/2023 19:33

WowIlikereallyhateyou · 23/05/2023 19:24

Things dont work that way though, not as simple as that.Take home on 60k salary isnt 5k after tax, pensions other deductions. As other posters have confirmed.

OP isn't asking about s 60k salary. OP is asking about 60k take home. Without knowing OPs tax code, NI status etc no one can advise exactly what her gross salary should be.

OuchIStubbedMyBigToe · 23/05/2023 19:33

I earn circa £100k gross and after deductions (including a healthy pension contribution) I take home almost £5k per month on the nail.

Financial services, senior manager

60k after tax etc wouldnt clear 5 k.

60k before tax (gross) would not clear 5k pcm.

But 60k after tax OFC is exactly 5k pcm.

So her figures are fine.

GoodChat · 23/05/2023 19:34

Sorry @UserABC12345 I got very confused!

Thanks for that!

Your correct op, wow might be reasonably good at maths but reading isn't as strong, they missed/ignored that you said 60k take home, so after deductions.
