I’ve been trying to work something out and just wondered - what sort of job/career makes that’s sort of amount (5k per month / £60k per year actual take home amount)

Nope, I left just over a month ago as I couldn't afford anything. I had all my training done and was starting to study to be a RN but even then the pay was only £30k a year. My mum is a teacher at a school for children with autism or have been through trauma and she's only on £28k. The nurses where I worked would work like 6 days a week, and we were all on 12hour shifts, and they'd only be on like £2 more an hour that I was (I was on £10.20 per hour). Currently looking for a different job so money is quite tight but hearing back by Monday about a management position I interviewed for! 🤞🏼x x

Which is £2 more an hour in a Wetherspoons! What we had to do in the care sector, I don't think you could pay most people enough to do. Luckily I love helping people and really enjoyed my job, but was ending up stuck every two weeks as wages were so low, but rent, bills, food and everything else is so expensive! x

I work in HR earn just under 80k. Take home is 4k but I am putting almost 1k into my pension every month and have a few other small benefits I pay for.

As someone who works in HR do you honestly think this is an achievable career for OP to advise these people about?

surely you should be giving advice to OP about how to handle this bizarre request for career advice which she is clearly completely out of her depth on?

Apologies. I certainly did! 🙄

Ooops! Certainly did, JeanDeServiette. Oh well, maybe my lack of accuracy says something creditable. 😇

Earning a high wage as a nurse in the NHS is achievable. However it takes years and years to achieve it. Lots of clinical hands on ward work, nights, training, study more training. It has been miserable at times, especially working nights with young kids.

If I went abroad with my skills ( which I wouldn't do), I could earn much more.

Your version sounds much nicer. Wink

May I ask which specialism?

My take home is just over £5k. It includes a car allowance but that's after paying pension contributions. My salary is £90k. I am a civil engineer.
