I’ve been trying to work something out and just wondered - what sort of job/career makes that’s sort of amount (5k per month / £60k per year actual take home amount)

@UserABC12345 you forgot tax, NI etc

I they didn't. OP says 5k per month/60k is the take home, so after deductions like tax, pension etc.

The 60k is take home, so after tax, pensions etc.

@BluebellBlueballs just seen u said you're a head of housing company and earn nowhere near. you should move around if they're underpaying you, as its definitely a going rate for me that I've seen. having worked in London, South eat and north east all paying similar.

Well I do apologise my app didn't refresh as quickly as the comments.
Nippy much?

PonkyPonky · 23/05/2023 19:53

If it’s between 3 adults then that’s 3 lots of tax free allowances not accounted for in the previous answers. They’d actually only need to be on £23k each to be bringing home around £5k a month between them. That’s a pretty basic salary, close to minimum wage. So they could apply at supermarkets etc to get what they need

Those in trades, bricklayer etc, are they self employed so does that include pension contributions? I've known bricklayers and builders who earn a shit load of money but have been unable to do it as fast or efficiently as they get older so have gone into other types of construction - supervisor etc or retired fairly early.

Why £5k a month OP? Most people don't take home anywhere near that much, and those that do will have years of experience in a professional role requiring higher level qualifications.

They should be eligible for childcare element of UC if they're low earners. It's not a choice of £100k salary or unemployment.

So am I but I earn nothing like that!

Tbh in my role I could take a step down and go somewhere more cut throat and earn the same.
But current company is very flexible and a nice place to work so I’ll stick with it!

A lot of GPs earn over £100k so take home of £60k plus.

LOL

homestartvolunteer · 23/05/2023 20:02

Just googled childcare element - is this correct it pays 85% of childcare fees and would they do this for 2 children at the same time from the same household ? If so that would be amazing

Part time GP

FatAgainItsLettuceTime · 23/05/2023 20:03

With 3 adults in one household why would they need childcare? Why can't they juggle working hours so one of them is at home caring for the kids while the other 2 are at work?

CornishAdventures · 23/05/2023 20:03

It would be more feasible for 2 out of the 3 of them to work or even 1 work full time and the other two part time to balance childcare. To be able to earn £5k take home, which is about £90k gross, will take many years specialised training incurring costs and gaining many years experience working their way up the ladder

@lateSeptember1964 where are you earning 100k as a nurse...point me in that direction please, I'd love to!

Several senior nurse roles pay that and more. 8d and 9 plus VSM range will go to around 150k for senior nurse roles in large trusts.

dodofofo · 23/05/2023 20:07

My best friend is a SME Managing Director & on 70k, after pension / tax she nets around £5k a month. I aim to be her one day because I'm certainly nowhere near this Blush

To me a Senior Nurse is an 8a. 8d / 9 is more Nurse Director, Executive Nurse etc. Maybe it's just semantics.

@homestartvolunteer it seems any of the three would be a long way off earning 100k.
However a household income of 5k would be achievable if they work around eachother, one doing days, one evenings, one weekends etc. Why does the child need 2 people to care for it at any one time?
