What job would have a take home pay of approx £5k a month?

homestartvolunteer · 23/05/2023 18:02

I’ve been trying to work something out and just wondered - what sort of job/career makes that’s sort of amount (5k per month / £60k per year actual take home amount)

you forgot tax, NI etc

net pay is after those deductions so 5k take home is 60k which would mean a gross income of 90k plus.

Your correct op, wow might be reasonably good at maths but reading isn't as strong, they missed/ignored that you said 60k take home, so after deductions.

Calm down

I just about clear that, I’m a head of dept for a housing company

So am I but I earn nothing like that!

WombatBombat · 23/05/2023 19:36

DH is a senior engineer and a specialist in his area earning 100k so is take home about 5.3k per month after tax & pensions.

Im in HR projects and on 71k but not a full FTE so my take home is lower.

Is the household need 5k per month, so actually one of you doesn’t need to earn 100k+ but three of you can earn 35k each?

Are these 3 adults with no training or work experience OP?

No training and minimal work experience but all have qualifications so there’s potential I think. We have had conversations over the last few weeks (initiated by them) but it’s hard to work out how they’d manage given they’d need childcare which is so expensive as the couple have a toddler and their adult dd at home has a child too so x2 childcare.
Both In the couple have gcses (good grades too) , Mum has 2 a levels . Adult dd gcses and A level so all intelligent but some bad circumstances have led to some issues and they are so keen to work

I’ve suggested they speak to their benefits advisor as well but I was just looking at rough figures with them for childcare and outgoings and they’d need so much but with 3 adults willing to work maybe between them it’s doable.

I literally don’t have a clue as work part time as a SE cleaner and then volunteer but I don’t have rent etc. I’m just looking for some inspiration for them

@lateSeptember1964 where are you earning 100k as a nurse...point me in that direction please, I'd love to!

Same. I just choked on my water!

LindorDoubleChoc · 23/05/2023 19:39

What is £60k per year post tax and NI and possibly pension contributions? I'm guessing £100k plus gross annual salary in a standard PAYE situation rather than freelance which comes with a ton of tax saving loopholes.

Yes this is possible but I wasn’t sure if that would be feasible as childcare is so expensive , they were talking about one of the couple looking for work and then the 2 not working to do childcare

To earn 5k a month with just a couple of A levels between them isn’t going to happen very quickly.

Saschka · 23/05/2023 19:43

Neurodiversitydoctor · 23/05/2023 19:34

After 5 years

Nope, 13.5% pension contributions, so it’s 9 years to actually clear £5k take home.

You’ll be getting £4800 on year 5.

JeandeServiette · 23/05/2023 19:44

Get them to look at apprenticeships, OP. Good basic qualifications but no experience is actually a reasonable clean sheet to start with.

GoodChat · 23/05/2023 19:45

@homestartvolunteer would any of them be up for becoming childminders if they've got young children themselves?

Id recommend the young adult tries to find an apprenticeship if there's something she's keen on doing. It'll be minimal salary for the first 12-18 months but could definitely soon shoot up after that, especially if it's a level 4 apprenticeship as she already has A levels

I earn circa £100k gross and after deductions (including a healthy pension contribution) I take home almost £5k per month on the nail.

Financial services, senior manager

This is my DH. Except his pension contribution must not be quite so healthy

"Head of" something within a housing association would get that. Be that development, land, comms, legal, marketing etc

BillyNoM8s · 23/05/2023 19:47

I make that as an exec assistant. But I work in the Middle East so am judged harshly on here. It's the no tax bit that makes the real difference. And minimal bills.

Figures dont add up.
60k after tax etc wouldnt clear 5 k.

The 60k is take home, so after tax, pensions etc.
