Just seen on Instagram that PS is stepping down with immediate effect from This morning!
I mean, I'm not that bothered but there's been lots of speculation recently re his brother's conviction and the rumoured spat with Holly but I thought it would probably all blow over.
I'm sure he's got a bob or two is loaded but I'm still a bit surprised if I'm honest.

Him becoming mates with a 15 year old Is desperate and creepy.
He says then something changed....
Hmmm me thinks he was younger than what was reported.

Idontpostmuch · 01/06/2023 23:53

Nofixedabodewell · 01/06/2023 23:19

He says they were ‘mates’. How can a middle aged man be mates with a teenage boy? He’s just got no concept of what is normal behaviour.

There are some friendships that cross generational boundaries. My friend has friends who are her mum's age. Unfortunately some such friendships are viewed with suspicion. In this case rightly so.

Aquarius1234 · 01/06/2023 23:55

I hope his vape doesn't smell.

RhannionKPSS · 01/06/2023 23:59

Obviously his wife isn’t on Mumsnet because when we had a “ gossip “ thread be of the constant references was PS being gay , Cilla Black was awful to BA staff and various other comments which were spot on, but it got too hot to handled so the whole thing was delated...

Inkanta · 02/06/2023 00:08

I remember the coming out interview in 2020. He was asked if he was coming out now because he was seeing someone. He said no to that.. Similar clipped voice as in this interview now.

limoncello23 · 02/06/2023 00:09

OneFrenchEgg · 01/06/2023 22:03

I think so, I imagine it was convenient - I can't remember that far back but maybe children's tv was still homophobic?

Yes, I think it probably was. When Schofield started on children's TV it was about the time that Section 28 was introduced. Many people believed that children should be "protected" from gay men and women. Those people were, of course, entirely wrong but I don't think an out gay man would have gotten a job on children's TV in the late 80s.

Aquarius1234 · 02/06/2023 00:11

The Sun must have other dirt on him.

LizzieSiddal · 02/06/2023 00:13

From the Sun interview But I didn't lie to protect my career, he didn't want his name in public. He wanted his own life.'

So he’s blaming the young man. What an absolute fucker he is.
Plus the name wouldn’t have been “in public” because it was only people inside ITV who were asking questions and they all knew his name! He’s so disingenuous and still taking the public for fools.

But did they become good friends when one of them was 15? And the older one has a sexual preference for the gender of the other? And was one in a significantly more powerful position?
Friendships across generations are completely normal, but not when there's such an imbalance

letthemalldoone · 02/06/2023 01:17

Well the young man's identity is hardly a secret now, is it?!

tobee · 02/06/2023 01:33

Did any of the interviews ask why he did the coming story? And the optics he was going for?

tobee · 02/06/2023 01:34

coming out* story

Whoops @LunaNorth

Zarataralara · 02/06/2023 06:11

I don’t usually give a flying fuck about “celebrities” but him playing the victim, using his pathetic whispery voice to try to justify himself is beyond disgusting. PS says he’s lost everything, well boo hoo you’ve still got a roof over your head, ££££ in the bank, you can live in luxury anywhere in the world, stop bloody whinging.
Aiu he was a patron of a youth drama club, did he take all the kids out for meals, did he organise work opportunities for all the club numbers or was it just this one boy?

Christopher Biggins had a show on children's television for a few years. Even at primary school we'd worked out he was gay. However, Phillip Schofield was definitely being marketed as a clean-cut, boy next door pin-up, so that probably stifled any honesty back then.

Schofield calls his actions 'unwise, but not illegal.' I would say, of what we know, they were exploitative, but not illegal. This isn't just about him but about the way the entertainment industry allows rich and powerful people to abuse their position and then cover up their behaviour using their money and connections. What annoyed me about his coming out was that it was a manipulative ploy to cover up a scandal. These latest stage-managed interviews have annoyed me even more because they are so obviously an attempt to use his status to play the public. The media is allowing itself to be used for his crisis PR.

And saying that he has paid for the runner's expensive lawyers isn't the kind gesture he wants us to think it is.

Christopher Biggins?
Michael Staniforth who played Claypole in Rentaghost?
Mark Curry from Blue Peter?

Freefall212 · 02/06/2023 08:10

He clearly had the support of the gay community and his family / close friends to keep his sexuality out of the public eye for decades. Since he was able to live a gay lifestyle without the public knowing for decades, he probably thought he could do the same with this relationship. He has been lying in many ways about who he is his entire life, living a double life. He probably didn't expect the house of cards to crash, since it had stayed up for so long. It held including through the almost four year relationship with this young man when everyone knew something was going on, even if they both denied it. And whe nit started to get very shaky at the breakup/ awards ceremony, he thought coming out as gay could save the day and it almost did. The consequences he is feeling now are the results of his own choices. He could have handled things in very different ways over the years.

The main person impacted by all this was the young man. He got caught up in this web of lies, in this double life, when he was just a young adult trying to figure out his own sexuality (I understand he hadn't come out to his family), trying to get started in his career. He got his heart broken and was then expected to carry all of PS's secrets and keep protecting him, at his own expense. Now he is back in a spotlight he never wanted with press hunting him down in the quieter life he created. I wish people would leave him alone unless he wants to speak.

Jakethekid · 02/06/2023 08:36

Now hes comparing himself to the Caroline flack situation saying hw wouldn't be here if it wasn't for his daughter keeping an eye on him at all times. If he's suicidal then of course that's terrible but using it in an interview to drum up sympathy is a bad move

purpleme12 · 02/06/2023 08:48

I don't know the truth but all of this hounding and going downhill is enough to make anyone's mental health go rapidly downhill.
Hard to know which is true and which isn't

It also puts a massive strain and responsibility on his daughter. He’s openly saying he’s using her for life support. He’s just so fucked up.

The key word you're missing is out

I've never even heard that Mark Curry is gay. And he was 'my' era of BP.

PS was not comparable to Christopher biggins or some bloke from rentaghost. He was really central to children's bbc. He was my first crush!

Totally agree

LadyBird1973 · 02/06/2023 09:20

He does repeat that Holly didn't know, so he must feel he owes her something if he's trying to keep her job for her. Given that she's publicly distanced herself since the story about his brother broke (and privately before that by leaving his agency to set up her own), I wonder why he would.
The cynic in me thinks he thinks he can come back from this if he doesn't drop itv totally in the shit.

Gothambutnotahamster · 02/06/2023 09:25

I agree @LadyBird1973 - he absolutely will be thinking he has a way back as he hasn't done anything illegal Angry

I read that Carole McGiffen said a runner on LW was let go to make way for MM. If true, that's another victim in this story that he didn't mention. Such horrible fall out from one nasty man.
