Dubai. One dimensional and boring. Went for five days and that felt too long

Florida

Don’t tell me…. you went to Orlando and think you’ve seen Florida?! Have you been to Naples? or Marco Island? Or Sanibel island or Captiva Island? Absolutely beautiful, sometimes breathtaking natural beauty.

Nebraska. Just so flat and dull. We literally sped through it, bar stopping at K-Mart for a Cornhuskers t-shirt which I love.

What we call Fly-over country!

wistfullyfocused · 21/05/2023 21:41

Colorado. We stayed in an apartment on a sofa bed and it sagged like a hammock. Awful place. I’d never go back.

Puerto Banus on the Costa Del Sol. It's near to Marbella, San Pedro and Estepona, which I all love, but I can't get on with Puerto Banus. It's got a nice harbour with possibly some of the most expensive superyachts in the world, but I find it quite pretentious along the harbour front with all it's designer shops and fancy bars, but the street directly behind the front felt almost threatening. I've been lots of times now, but I don't think I will ever love it. Marbella, San Pedro and especially Estepona, on the other hand, are all incredible.

We first visited Banus in 1975 when we were living in Gib, the land border was closed but boats were able to sail up the coast to Estepona etc. To get to Banus we took the bus, from the bus-stop we walked across about half a mile of fields, Banus consisted of the harbour and 1 'layer' of shops round it! David Niven's junk was always there and King Constantine's yacht. In about 2014 we went back and hated it, a tacky concrete jungle all the way up to the road!

Panteranoir · 21/05/2023 21:56

Vegas. Urgh! I absolutely hated it and couldn't wait to leave

Dubai I didn't get along with either for many reasons.

Archidona in Spain. I had a weird reaction to it. It felt so oppressive. I felt such a sense of relief as I left. Ive never experienced anything like it. So strange.

Mummadeze · 21/05/2023 21:57

Cancun or Thailand. Didn’t really like either.

HaggisFace · 21/05/2023 21:57

Another for Tunisia. I didn't feel safe at all. Thankfully the hotel was beautiful as we saw ALOT of it. I'd never go back.

These threads are always the same

People slating clearly wonderful places because they didn't enjoy themselves due to one small detail.

Did you read the thread title ?

Totally agree about Death Valley and the drive from Vegas to Yosemite, it was brilliant way more than we were expecting. Not knowing whether the next town will be anything more than one metal shack and another alien research centre or an abandoned village like Rhyolite. The vast flat nothingness of the valley was so sobering and then the steep climb out of the west side over to Lone Pine, Bishop etc, was amazing.

We've done that drive from Las Vegas across to Yosemite too, a fabulous drive through Death Valley, we pulled off into a tiny town to get coffee, walked into a bakery and they were selling out favourite German beer.
Reading this thread I tend to wonder why some people go places, they seem to want everywhere to be like home.

Bali is definitely off my to visit list after reading these posts!
@catshreddedthesofa Oh no! I’m going to Mauritius this week, I hope I like it more than you did….. but to be honest I’m that much in need of a holiday I don’t think I’ll care about the scenery being underwhelming. The photos of the beach where we’re staying look beautiful too. Fingers crossed 🤞🏼

We loved Mauritius, been twice and much preferred the South. Hire a car and get out and see the island, it is beautiful

WhereTheSuburbsMeetUttoxeter · 21/05/2023 22:07

Haven Wild Duck Caravan Park near Yarmouth.

Uurrjb · 21/05/2023 22:09

Orlando as part of a vast tour of Florida…absolute shithole

Fluff3 · 21/05/2023 22:12

Paris and the Eifel Tower. The smelliest and dirtiest place I have ever visited. Would never go again.

Nanna61 · 21/05/2023 22:14

Cornwall! North East Coast so much better!

Jane881 · 21/05/2023 22:17

I'm just back from Venice and thought it was beautiful x

Zone2NorthLondon · 21/05/2023 22:19

Dubai, like Brent Cross with the heating on. Ghastly. Full of thicko expats and wide boys

Also Pisa, like someone else said, it just a tower that leans, novelty is quickly over and there's nothing else to do.

And the Inca trail followed by Machu Picchu, didn't enjoy a minute of it.

Oh no what's wrong with machu picchu? It's quite high on my list!

Zone2NorthLondon · 21/05/2023 22:22

I had a job offer, they flew me over, put me up for a few days. it was ghastly. Blingy expats and malls with molls

Refreshmentsanyone · 21/05/2023 22:22

BishopRock · 20/05/2023 14:50

Stonehenge.

Maybe if they ever manage to have it alone in the landscape without a major road going past it, it would have more oomph.

I quite like the road. Highlights the difference between then and now.

Agree that Venice is stunning but essentially it’s just become a theme park. Barcelona is also a bit overrated although I think some elements are so unique it’s still pretty good.
I was disappointed that Nice is boring and not that glamorous.

Brighton is completely overrated. At least Blackpool is cheap.

silverbubbles · 21/05/2023 22:26

I was rather underwhlemed by the Taj Mahal. Maybe I has seen to many pictures before hand or maybe it was the filthy dirty city of Agra....
