Take that back! 😂

Piggywaspushed · 20/05/2023 19:45

I don't remember much about the Grand Canyon. I thought it would be breathtaking but I think the drive was so long that I was beyond caring.

Brighton! We drove 3.5 hours to get there and it was so disappointing, felt really scruffy and run down. Was hoping it would be like Bristol.

Oh yes. I said Centre Parks in my PP, but Brighton tops it. It leaves me feeling empty and like I want to run back home. There is a very unsettling vibe there aside from the physical grimness of the place.

MissAmbrosia · 20/05/2023 19:46

New York
Paris
Pisa
I'm going to Naples next week - know it's a bit marmite so unsure what to expect. Will report back,
I always fancied Sorrento and Amalfi coast. I joined a FB group and I no longer want to go there 😂

SquashPenguin · 20/05/2023 19:48

Barcelona. Shithole.

mumofboys8787 · 20/05/2023 19:51

Ibiza! What an absolute dump

Another one agreeing to Brighton. It was horrible, like how you'd imagine a place to be if drugs were legalised but with access to a crap beach.

SoCalLiving · 20/05/2023 19:53

We currently live in LA and I'd hard agree with all the people saying LA is overrated. It's okay to live in (I still have my gripes with it though) but to visit it is a bit boring.

WitheringTights000 · 20/05/2023 19:54

@SoCalLiving - any experience with cedars as a facility? I have an upcoming appointment there and I am travelling a long way to it (from UK)

StormInaDcup99 · 20/05/2023 19:54

Sunny Beach Bulgaria......a hot soviet Blackpool!

Berlin.......loved the history but quite an ugly city. Were there for 3 days. A few of the Germans we met were so incredibly rude. Have never found this in other parts of Germany

Hong Kong.....so overcrowded and escalators absolutely everywhere

Sydney.......really overrated

Loved Cape Town, New Orleans, fraser Island Australia, Lisbon, Paris, Rome, Krakow, Budapest, Cinque Terre Italy, black forest Germany, Colmar France

Whiteroomjoy · 20/05/2023 19:54

America
all the places I have visited at least ( maybe 20 different destinations)
tbf , I only visited to work, and I worked for a US company so spent 34 years around 100s of Americans
hell would freeze over before I go back.

SoCalLiving · 20/05/2023 19:57

My main thing is that I enjoy living here, but visiting can be a bit boring. When people come to visit us from the UK they tend to be a bit like "is that it?" when we go out and show them 'the sights'.

Covidwoes · 20/05/2023 19:58

For me it's Blackpool. Absolute armpit.

SoCalLiving · 20/05/2023 19:59

Venice was the place I thought was most underwhelming, but it did rain/was grey for a lot of our visit. I was young at the time ~19 and always on the go, so I felt a bit bored with what was available there.

I really want to go back now I'm older and see if I feel the same way, because I think now I'd be pretty happy just sitting at a cafe reading a book.

takeawayonme · 20/05/2023 20:03

Miami. I found it really intimidating and felt unsafe the whole time we were there.

We went to Venice on ur honeymoon which was late June and I distinctly remember the flight attendant telling us we were going at the right time before the canals begin to smell.

Worked in Basel for 18 years and it has some beautiful medieval architecture. But if you're not on Swiss wages then yes, it is expensive. Geneva is quite a bit more expensive though!

Basel? I worked there for months. I felt it was Safest place for lone female traveller than pretty much anywhere else I’d been with work including European cities a plenty, America, South America, Asia and Australia.
lovely and quiet. Low traffic. Drunks on trams non existent. Lovely architecture, nice restaurants, interesting people.
yep, all Switzerland *&£@# expensive, I was on expenses and would have to explain why a simply main course meal in hotel after work ws £50, and breakfast £30🤣🤣🤣

only place safer for me was China😱can’t move for security guards everywhere. This is why unemployment is low in China is my theory. Millions of bored Chinese sitting outside every door and gate watching the millions of people go in and out and checking ID when they get really bored 🤣🤣🤣🙄

The algarve, Portugal. God grief, what an utter dump.

Very much of Algarve is stunningly beautiful with amazing bird life and spectacular coastal walks. Bits of it are tacky and run down, like anywhere. The wine is good too.

Lottapianos · 20/05/2023 20:08

'The algarve, Portugal. God grief, what an utter dump'

Oh lord, I dread to think which bit you visited. We've been to Albufeira and Lagos, and both were just beautiful. And yes, fabulous food and wine

GettingStuffed · 20/05/2023 20:08

Bristol balloon fiesta night glow, boring and the bus home was a nightmare.

I don't remember St Lucia being dangerous, although we were searching to walk on the beach, except in front of the hotel, after dark.

DidyouNO · 20/05/2023 20:08

Rome and Naples. I. Fact Italy really. Filthy, poorly maintained, dangerous, lawless and smelly. Nothing about it was beautiful. Plastic drainpipes on the Colosseum. Shocking.

What were you expecting the the Grand Canyon? I prefer the North Rim, quieter than the South Rim but a 200 mile drive to get there!

I love the Grand Canyon. Been to the North Rim twice, and had it booked for this July but the lodge is closed so we’ve had to have a re-think. There will be a day trip to the South Rim instead.

Sunrise and sunset are just out of this world. I’m sad to be missing that.

The USA? You’ve been to the wrong places and met the wrong people.

Drbrowns · 20/05/2023 20:12

Rome. Dirty, crowded and constantly being hassled every time you stop to look at something.

BreadInCaptivity · 20/05/2023 20:15

Another for Las Vegas.

Absolutely hated it.

Final nail in the coffin was passing a shop selling adult nappies so people could pee/shit without leaving their gaming table/slot machine.
